    Israeli aid

Given all the Middle East problems and all the Israel talk going on these days, I really am curious about something. There seems to be a lot of people against Israel getting aid. I am not one of them, only because if teh US is going to give out billions and billions in aid, why shouldnt Israel get any?

I have not looked up finite and on the dot specific numbers, but this is becuase there are so many articles out there on the subject it is difficult to find exact numbers. In a report to Congres by Foreign affairs and National Defense Specialists, they outline the five categories foreign aid falls into, and thus making it hard to gauge exact numbers, as some falls into "economic assistance supposrting US poitical and security goals" and "military aid".

the US aids about 150 nations for various reasons stated.

Currently, Iraq gets about 20$ billion in total aid.
    Israel gets about 3$ billion.
Egypt gets a little over 2$ billion, Colombia receives almost 600$ million,
Afganistan receives about 5$ billion (this was the one i could not find good estimates on, but 5$ billion is more on the lower end my estimate).
Palestinian Authority receives only about 20$ million in aid, but its hard to gauge amounts for this "nation" as well becuase another couple hundred million are payed to Palestinians through Israeli programs funded by US money.
The rest of the countries recieving large amounts range in the hundreds of million of dollars and are mostly in Sub-saharan Africa and South America where the drug trade is the prime target of all the US aid.

Now looking at this list, I would assume that at least in the US government's eyes, Israel is the most trustworthy and most likely to actually use the aid money on things that do in fact "align themselves with US political and security goals". I dont need to go into stories on how corrupt many of these governments are, and how payments are distributed to local leaders to be redistributed to other "necessary" recipients and that by the time any money reaches its intended destination, its been reduced by the many bribes, kickbacks, and other illegal processes that reduces the actual aid significantly.

maybe thats why they get so much aid consistently. In my opinion, as long as the US is giving out billions and billions, why shouldnt Israel get money, tehy certainly deserve it more over the other countries that get so much.

o well i dont know what to say, i guess no one can offer anything on the subject except "save our tax money, give it to Iraq instead".

the facts dont lie. the requirements for US aid are clear, as are the countries that are allies on the inside and out, not just on teh outside.

    Re: Israeli aid

Good to see all that tax payer money is going to good use right ? That is a lot of money going out in foreign aid.

Interesting the money is going to those countries instead of the ones which need food and basic necessities. How about the homeless and starving Americans ? I guess everyone pays their taxes and just fork out more to make up for the lack thereof on the government's part ?

You are right that Israel aligns itself with US policy. They are the most westernized in the middle east and are strategically placed to achieve many things when called upon.

If you approve that Israel receives aid, would you like to continue giving them aid and continue to be a target for terrorists ? Israel has proven that they can take on anyone in the middle east. We don't need to do it for them.

Because it's illegal and immoral to provide financial, military, or diplomatic support to a nation that engages in systematic violations of international law and human rights.

The $3 billion + figure for Israel is accurate. As for the figure on Iraq, I don't know where it comes from. The billions we spend on our illegal aggression and military occupation don't constitute "aid".

    Re: Israeli aid

the fiigure on Iraq is accurate, but as i was trying to say earlier the definition of "aid" whether it be economic, military or just plain paying for an occupation (which is the $90 billion that we all heard so much about last year for rebuilding Iraq) is hard to differentiate for us little people.

you say Israel is consistently and systematically violating international human rights laws and whatnot,if that were true then the US would probably be their only ally. you know if Russia and France back up your stance then you are really on to something. Im not stupid or blind to teh facts, but the bombings and bulldozing and all that stuff is pretty consistent with current US actions in Iraq and god knows where else, its all the same. you bomb us, we bomb u. you explode yourself in our streets, we demolish 20 of your homes. which side is wrong. apparently you say Israel is, but I am not ready to commit to that idea.

Maybe the fact that Israel is a "staunch ally" to the US is the reason our government tends to overlook Israeli hostilities, kind of turning a blind eye, who knows. what i do know however is when faced with people who want to kill you, you would take any and all actions available to you to prevent that and/or return teh favor.

Anyways i still think that in the minds of our nations leaders, especially nowadas when "security" and "anti-terrorism mindsets" run rampant, having Israel in the back pocket of the US is a very good thing. Qatar and Kuwait can only hold so much of the US armed forces...

The expenses of bombing and killing the people of Iraq do not constitute "aid".

Look, it's not that difficult. Suicide bombers blowing up civilians is wrong. Similarly, Israeli soldiers gunning down unarmed Palestinians is wrong. Far more Palestinian civilians are killed than Israeli. Bulldozing homes is immoral and illegal. Firing upon ambulances is immoral and illegal. Every aspect of Israel's brutal occupation is immoral and illegal.

It's very simple to recognize right from wrong.

Maybe the fact that Israel is a "staunch ally" to the US is the reason our government tends to overlook Israeli hostilities, kind of turning a blind eye, who knows.
That's exactly correct. Only we don't "turn a blind eye", we provide more than $3 billion annually in support of the illegal occupation.

what i do know however is when faced with people who want to kill you, you would take any and all actions available to you to prevent that and/or return teh favor.
That is equally true for Palestinians.

Why do you want US armed forces in the Middle East to begin with? That's half the problem.

whether you realize it or not, youre just another person talking about teh immoral killing of "terrorists/women and children".

illegl occupation??? what constitutes that?? i thought when a country attacks and invades your own country you have the right to defend yourself and advance into the attacking territory to disable the military capability of that area.

its too bad americans have such short memoris, but Jews/Israelis do not, theyve had too many people of too many different races trying by all means necessary to kill them. if you invade a country, you better be ready to deal with teh consequences. this so called "illegal" occupation as you refer to it is nothign more than a nation defending itself.

hate all you want, but when someone walks onto your street and blows themselves up along with your family and your neigbors, maybe then you'll realize theyre family was paid thousands of dollars by some foreign government when at the same time they are crying about their payroll being in jeopardy, then youll wake up.

unarmed civilians and ambulances with women and children in them??? wake up a-hole.

you cant trust these people. yes , i said these people. i always yell at my mother for refering to Muslims in general as "these people" but when it comes to palistinians marching in the street burningUs flags and chanting "death to Israelis" then i mean these people. there is no argument on this point. if you dont want your so called "women and children" killed, then dont let your men meet in your houses planning to bomb Israeli markets. its plain and simple. you would have zero sympathy for a person here in the US who was killed in a shootout along with his family when you discovered his home was the meeting place of hundredds for anti-US terrorists (yes i used th word terrorists like Bush and his neocons, im sorry).

but the facts are the facts. dont **** **** up if you cant deal with teh **** that comes afterwards

blah blah blah---took awhile to look that up???

as long as every President since Truman has considered Israel an ally, we have no reason to consider otherwise.

keep on supporting Iraq and not Israel...enjoy!!!!
