    Hello, new member here

Just found your forum today while searching for info on an email I got recently. It was addressed to someone else but I checked the link out. It was an offer for a Home Equity loan. The website looked really dodgy to me. The email said information sent to the website was secure but there was no attempt at any encryption whatsoever. It asked for address, telephone number and info on my current mortgage.

As you can see from my avitar I am more comfortable dealing with advance fee fraud but this one intrigued me. I checked up on the domain and found it was registered to a person in the Seattle area.

    Email with headers:

I was just wondering what the catch here is. Is this a Phishing scheme or just a contact collection for more spam or is there something I don't know about this kind of fraud?

I entered info in the form on the website. All fake details that I use for baiting 419 fraud. I'm wondering what will come of this. Any advance info anyone can give me?

Not long after the first email I recieved another very similar. The registrant for the website was different and the email headers were different but the web site template was an exact duplicate of the first.

Edit: Forgot to say this. If there's any way to shut this down or this is illegal I have a lot of info I found out about the site registrant that I can pass along. Just in case the authorities do more about this type of fraud than the advance fee 419 fraud.

Most of those are scams of one kind or another. This one is probably phishing for your identity to steal. It could be several other things or even several scams combined.

    Re: Hello, new member here

I dropped my baiting email addy on the site. We'll see what spam I pick up there. So far I've gotten three calls from different numbers in my forwarding account. None trace to a known company. In fact I get no info on any of the numbers. Either the accounts were set up recently or they don't want to advertise. Doesn't smell right if they are a legit lending institution. I'd think if they were legit they would want everyone to know their telephone #.

Haven't let any calls through yet. I'll try that tomorrow. Wanted to check the numbers out first.
