New Body Screeners in use in London:

We are living in a dystopian nightmare
Witness The "Panopticon" mass surveillance prison in operation

    Steve Watson | January 12 2006

A high-tech body scanner for detecting would-be terrorists has been unveiled at London's Paddington station ahead of a four-week trial, the BBC reports.

Passengers will be randomly selected to pass through the seven-metre box at the Heathrow Express platforms, while baggage is also screened.

Other technology being tested includes advanced closed circuit television systems programmed to sound an alarm when they spot suspicious behaviour.

The implementation of such technology represents a giant leap into a total surveillance Big Brother society. People are faced with walking into booths raising their hands above their heads like they're a criminal and being electronically scanned by a machine that produces a naked image of their body.

Yet as you have seen from the video above the general consensus is total acceptance. The only negative comment in the report comes from a commuter who is worried that the process may add a few minutes onto his journey.

"It's one of those things we have to endure these days" comments one man. "Anything to make us feel safer" whimpers an elderly lady whilst giving the most naive bootlicking smile you can imagine. And this is precisely the point, the general public will accept any level of intrusiveness so long as it gives the IMPRESSION that they are safer, in reality it doesn't make anyone safer it just eliminates your liberty.

Rest assured there are more loving schemes in preparation, as Transport minister Alistair Darling comments "We want to test various types of screening equipment, we want to see whether or not they work in a large railway station. In future we'll be testing other things on the London Underground".

To me this is remarkable because at my local tube station the escalator has been out of order for around a year. So They cannot work a set of moving stairs yet they can quite easily implement electronic state of the art naked body screening equipment.

The reporter announces that the same technology is being used in Jerusalem to prevent suicide bombers getting on buses. Since when did the UK become Israel? We've had one small scale attack on the transport network and suddenly London is being compared with Jerusalem where bombs have been going off on busses almost daily for the last two decades.

In addition to the body scanners, and the loving reassurance that old style machine gun armed vader cops will still be there to protect us, there is to be a network of cctv cameras that can detect suspicious behaviour by tracking movement and the way people are walking. This is totally incomprehensible. If I walk into the station with my backpack on and keep looking over my shoulder, does that make me suspicious? Am I a terrorist because I'm walking funny?

Not only are surveillance cameras everywhere, recording everything we do, we're now at the point where we are letting the cameras decide who is a criminal or a terrorist. This even surpasses Orwell's nightmare vision in 1984.

There can be no arguing that we are now living in a world that mirrors EXACTLY, and in some cases supercedes a dystopian fiction. Take a look at the images below, one is an example of a real body scanning machine in use now in airports and currently on trial in railway stations in London. The other two images are taken from the feature film Total Recall, Paul Verhoeven's 1990 adaption of Philip K Dick's short story, We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, first published in 1966.

The resemblance is startling, body scanning equipment that sees through clothes and reveals hidden weapons being employed in a train station.

Philip K Dick and other authors such as George Orwell, Aldous Huxley and Ray Bradbury were warning us what would happen if we let our society degenerate in this way in the future. Their stories relate life in police states, with total surveillance all around controlling everything.

Now we are seeing these fictions become reality and the apathetic acceptance of it is frightening.

Click here to download the full clip from Total Recall and hear the audio "No unauthorized weapons beyond this point" as Arnold walks through the body screener.

In addition to the implementation of this technology, Londoners have recently faced a rise in tube fares, but only for those travelers who wish to pay with money. Should you choose to purchase an Oyster card, a smart card that contains credit and can be topped up like a cell phone, the fares GO DOWN.

To use the Oyster card you run it over a scanner and the gates open, allowing you access to the underground and taking the appropriate credit from your electronic account.

This is all about getting people used to a cashless society in which it is deemed an inconvenience to have actual money. It will become positively embarrassing to be seen to hold up the queue because you want to use real money.

I live in London and I only occasionally use the tube, thus I have no call to get an Oyster card. This is clearly aimed at people who do not need a smart card but will be easily persuaded if the price is right.

It has also been previously exposed how Oyster cards are used to track commuters.

The ad campaign behind the card is that it's easier and less hassle and can magically transport you quicker, something that anyone who uses the Northern line regularly will know is BS.

We have continually warned how these big brother tools will be marketed as convenient as well as cool and fashionable. Even the Oyster Smartcard is being marketed in this way as people are wearing it on handbags and clothing.

So not only do we have the cctv that decides whether you are evil or not and the body scanning machines that allow people to see you naked, we also have a cashless credit system in operation that allows the authorities to see how often you use the tube and when and where you travel.

"Credits" or "Work credits" or "Credit units" are a staple feature of many dystopian nightmare fictions because of the total control they allow the rulers, these too are becoming a reality.

The ultimate element of a controlled Big Brother society is of course the implantable microchip. We have previously exposed how this is being used in Europe to gain VIP access to nightclubs and pay for drinks. Geeks are lining up to get the chips implanted to do anything from opening doors to unlocking computer programs.

What kind of hellish state of lazy slothfulness has someone reached when they can't even be bothered to open a door by pushing it with their arm? In 300 years will the human race have evolved into some kind of blob with no arms or legs because we couldn't be bothered to use them any more?

How long will it be before we have to take the chip to get into the body scanner, bypass the cctv and get on the tube?
