Bush wants to be your shrink :D

I'm not sure if anyone had posted anything like this yet. It may be old news. Just thought it would bring up some important things to consider.

Now Bush wants to test every American for mental illness--including you! And guess who will create the tests?
    By Jordanne Graham

Next month, President Bush plans to unveil a broad new mental health plan called the “New Freedom Initiative.” Never mind that it couldn’t have less to do with freedom; if you’re a thinking American, this initiative should scare the hell out of you.

The New Freedom Initiative proposes to screen every American, including you, for mental illness. To this end, the president established a New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, to study the nation’s mental health delivery service and make a report. It’s interesting to note that many on the staff appointed to the Commission have served on the advisory boards of some of the nation’s largest drug companies.

The commission reported that “despite their prevalence, mental disorders often go undiagnosed,” so it recommended comprehensive mental health screening for “consumers of all ages,” including preschool children because “each year, young children are expelled from preschools and childcare facilities for severely disruptive behaviors and emotional disorders.”

Children and school personnel will be the first to be screened. The panel concluded that schools are in “key positions” to screen the 52 million students and six million adults who work at the schools. By doing this, the commission expects to flush out another six million persons not now receiving treatment. But who will decide the screening criteria? Bush and his people? The drug companies? What are their qualifications?

One recommendation of the commission was that the screening be linked with “treatment and supports,” using “specific medications for specific conditions.” It is no coincidence that the treatments recommended for specific conditions are the newest state-of-the-art treatments that will bring in the most revenues for the drug companies. One of these emerging treatments is a capsule implanted within the body that delivers doses of medication without the patient having to swallow pills or take injections. If a government wanted to exert control of its citizens, think of the implications of using this device.

The Texas Medication Algorithm Project, or TMAP, was named by the commission as a “model” medication treatment plan that “illustrates an evidence-based practice that results in better consumer outcomes.” Medical algorithms are a decision-tree approach to treatment. If symptoms A, B, and C are evident, use treatment X. In 1995, TMAP began as an alliance of individuals from the University of Texas, the pharmaceutical industry, and the mental health and corrections systems of Texas. This plan was trumpeted by the American Psychiatric Association even as it asked for increased funding to implement TMAP. When an employee of the Inspector General’s office revealed that state officials with influence over the plan had received money and perks from drug companies who stood to gain from it, the plan came under severe criticism.

Allen Jones, an employee of the Pennsylvania Office of the Inspector General, wrote a whistleblower report in which he stated that behind the recommendations of the New Freedom Commission was the “political/pharmaceutical alliance” that developed the Texas project, which promotes the use of newer, more expensive antipsychotics and antidepressants. He further claimed that this unholy alliance was “poised to consolidate the TMAP effort into a comprehensive national policy to treat mental illness with expensive, patented medications of questionable benefit and deadly side effects, and to force private insurers to pick up more of the tab.”

In an article in the British Medical Journal, Jones shows that many companies who helped launch TMAP are also major contributors to Bush’s re-election funds. For example, Eli Lilly manufactures olanzapine. This is one of the drugs recommended in the New Freedom plan. Lilly has numerous ties to the Bush administration according to the British Medical Journal. It says George Herbert Walker Bush was once a member of Lilly’s board of directors. Our current President Bush appointed Lilly’s chief executive officer, Sidney Taurel, as a member of the Homeland Security Council. Eighty-two percent of Lilly’s $1.6 million in political contributions in 2000 went to Bush and the Republican Party.

Now don’t get me wrong. The medical algorithm approach used in Texas shows promise as a treatment tool for mental health and other illnesses. But make no mistake; this initiative is not really about treatment tools. Masquerading in the lamb's fleece of providing mental health treatment to needy folk is the greedy wolf called Big Pharma. Helping out Big Pharma in the form of the TMAP has nearly bankrupted Texas. So why would our president want to do that to the rest of the nation?

To understand this, one must look at the big picture.

At the recent Inequality Matters Conference, Bill Moyers illuminated listeners on the front of a new class war being waged against us by the wealthy leviathan corporations. “Their stated and open aim is to change how America is governed, to strip from government all its functions except those that reward their rich and privileged benefactors…. Their leading strategist in Washington, the same Grover Norquist, has famously said he wants to shrink the government down to the size that it could be drowned in a bathtub. More recently, in commenting on the fiscal crisis in the states and its affect on schools and poor people, Norquist said, ‘I hope one of them’--one of the states--‘goes bankrupt.’ So much for compassionate conservatism…. The White House pursues the same homicidal dream without saying so. Instead of shrinking down the government, they're filling the bathtub with so much debt that it floods the house, water-logs the economy, and washes away services for decades that have lifted millions of Americans out of destitution and into the middle-class. And what happens once the public’s property has been flooded? Privatize it. Sell it at a discounted rate to the corporations.”

On a website describing the Take Back America conference in June of 2003, Moyers is paraphrased: “[The Bush Administration] would privatize public services in order to enrich the corporate interests that fund campaigns and provide golden parachutes to pliable politicians. If unchecked, the result of these machinations will be the dismantling of every last brick of the social contract…. I think this is a deliberate, intentional destruction of the United States of America.”

The destruction of America is evident in many ways. Do not be fooled; the Bushiites intend to control all they can, and if that can include your brain, they will do it. If Big Pharma benefits, all the better. The New Freedom Initiative is an early step toward both, and $20 million has already been set aside to implement the initiative.

Work now to maintain your grip on your first great freedom, the power to control your own thoughts. Work now to maintain your grip on your secondary freedom of being able to control the approval for your own medical treatments. Ask your congressmen and senators today to put an end to the New Freedom Initiative.

So how has this progressed if anyone has heard of anything new pertaining to this ?
Looks like Rumsfeld isn't the only one with ties to Big pharma. Wanna make a bet that any of these clowns don't take any of their own prescriptions? Like one guy said, the white house should have a mental assessment.

Would we see Bush and Rumsfeld posing for pictures showing themselves as the first ones to receive the Tamiflu shot ? Probably not. We won't have the pleasure of witnessing any monkey see monkey do. Bush isn't as dumb as some people think. Acting must be a prerequisite for presidential candidates. We are witnessing a bigger WWF.

Then how long down that slippery slope do we have to go before we find ourselves in a position where normally intelligent and rational people begin to associate mental illness with a different way of looking at life, with a different way of thinking.
How long do we have to go before we see these same calm and rational people standing up in public forums and denouncing others for no greater crimes, pointing the finger of suspicion and screaming “lunatic”.

    Not long, apparently.

    Mental illness has a new name in America;
A.D.D , move over for B.B.B Only in America has the new disorder prompted more immediate attention. Its known side effects include, but not limited to, impaired speech, poor vision, poor train of thought and mental clarity, and speech impediments. This leads further down the road to loss of short term and long term memory as well as links to dementia. We will need to be vigilant to help those that may be suffering from this disorder.

Have any of you even read the New Freedom Initiative? Or do you simply read the alarmist views and not inform yourself about what the writer is saying?

I have read a lot of that already but it makes me nauseous so I didn't finish reading it. When you have a fuller understanding how most politicians are and their questionable interests/ties in/to companies that produce garbage drugs to control people, you begin to see the BS associated with their superficial stories to be convincing the public to buy into their crap of protecting them from harm. In fact they seem so convincing as well. Drugs, street or legal, are chemicals and artificial substances which the body does not recognize.

Drugs are not needed to "cure" these diseases. But if people were to be cured, there would be no more revenue for the drug companies in which many politicians hold shares in. It all starts with the foods manufactured by all these companies. They use chemicals such as preservatives, some of them are even cancer causing (BHT), and people consume these foods thinking they are safe to eat, when most of them are not. Then, we are told to "trust" the drugs to cure us. I don't see anyone being cured with using drugs, I see mass sickness and disease prevailing everywhere.

Mainstream companies aren't interested in curing people. They want your money. I don't understand why more people don't see this, but then again, many may be on some drugs already. Some just refuse to believe the possibility of people actually doing things like that and getting away with it. Look at Johnny Cash, he was addicted to prescription drugs, as is Eminem the rapper. Lot's of other people out there addicted to them as well. These prescription drugs are no joke. Why do you think street drugs are illegal ? think long and hard about that one and see if you can figure it out.

How about our children ? let's put 'em on Ritalin because they are misbehaving. Did you ever think that maybe the dyes and colors that are used in most foods are harmful to health ? According to Samuel Epstein's book "Unreasonable Risk" a lot of the food colors like FD&C yellow no.5, red no.33, blue no. 1&2 ...etc.... are all coal tar dyes. Tasty! What do kids like the most ? colorful candy, cereals, and colorful drinks whatever else looks pretty.

There is a reason and source for everything. Drugs are not the answer.

Here is just a partial list of congressional and adminstrative reps in the US gov who hold stock in BIG PHARMA Companies. This was back in 2001 can you imagine the money they have in stocks now. You can imagine that BUSH has stocks in this Tamiflu toxin. Here goes, The G.Bush family had in 2001, $63,000 up to $234,000 in drug companies. Dick Cheney had $160,000 to $350,000 in drug companies, Rep. Robin Hayes over $11 million in drug companies, as of dec 1999. Rep Jim Sensenbrenne up to $2.2 up to $7.1 million in drug companies, in 5 companies. T. Kerry, wife of J. Kerry $2.1 up to 12 Million in 8 drug companies.

So you ae claiming that Bush wants to be our Shrink, yet you have not read the New Freedom Initiative to completion?

There is nothing in it talking about requiring any tests on anyone...let alone for requiring tests on everyone. It is about making it easier for Americans with disabilites to live and work in the US. It is about helping those with mental illness see that they are not alone and finding ways to help them. (although personally I think mental illness is a catch all for anyone looking for a handout that is not being blind, deaf, dumb, or obviously handicapped. Yes there are those who suffer from real mental illness, but not everyone who is diagnosed)

I happen to agree with you on your views of "drugs" and believe the Drug companies are not much better then the drug dealers on the streets now that they are advertising meds all over the TV.

Seems almost ever TV show has an ad from a drug company telling you to ask your Doctor about this medication or that medication. My doctor maybe needs to get more educated so they know what meds to prescribe to me. I pay them enough they can do their own research.

Personally, I rarely even take an asprin. The body is an amazing thing, give it the nutrition it needs and it will do wonders taking care of itself with out artifical medication to help. Sometimes drugs are needed, but not nearly as often as they seem to be handed out.

You have to think one step ahead of these guys. A lot of bills that are passed end up looking good on the surface with good intentions, but there is ALWAYS an underlying motive. Greed knows no limits. You have all of these politicians who have invested in these pharmaceutical companies (both sides I may add) in which they stand to gain substantial amounts of cash. Is that moral or ethical ?

Especially when most of the companies know in advance what the drugs will do to people. I just don't understand why people cannot see that they don't work in preventing or curing disease, it is so obvious. Painkillers work, yes, but the pain is something to be addressed and not ignored by popping painkillers indefinitely so that more damage can accrue. That isn't including any side effects from the drugs themselves.

I happen to agree with you on your views of "drugs" and believe the Drug companies are not much better then the drug dealers on the streets now that they are advertising meds all over the TV.
I really believe that the reason street drugs are illegal is because it is competition for the drug companies, who are losing profits (they don't like competition); the illegal dealers are making revenue and the government isn't getting any taxes from them. One of the newer street drugs, crystal meth, can be made by buying perfectly legal supplies and making a concoction which is dangerous. Now, law enforcement is cracking down on that as well.

I am in no way supporting any drug use, on any side. Addictions/addictive behavior has a root. Until society addresses this root/cause of addictive behaviors/addictions, people will never stop using things which can kill them whether it is legal or not. We are spending a fortune combating the drug problem the wrong way. But then again, you have the pharmaceutical companies in there poisoning people as well; except they paid to make sure it is legal. They pay big bucks to get drugs approved.

It is interesting to note that "pharmacy" in the dictionary also has a reference to a word in which it came from;"pharmakeia" . Type in a google search on that one. I haven't read too many of them yet, only so many hours in a day.

Seems almost ever TV show has an ad from a drug company telling you to ask your Doctor about this medication or that medication. My doctor maybe needs to get more educated so they know what meds to prescribe to me. I pay them enough they can do their own research.
Sadly, many of them are closed minded to the idea of integrating natural remedies in with their practises. I guess some doctors feel they have learned all they need to learn ? There are some that are leaving the mainstream medical field because they learned about what nutrition and natural herbal remedies can do for people. And the stats say that less than 6% of graduating physicians have little knowledge about nutrition. In America, it is crucial that they learn about nutrition as it is the foods that are causing the problems. Add drugs to the equation and presto! you have more problems.

Personally, I rarely even take an asprin. The body is an amazing thing, give it the nutrition it needs and it will do wonders taking care of itself with out artifical medication to help. Sometimes drugs are needed, but not nearly as often as they seem to be handed out.
Since I stopped taking tylenol or aspirin when I was a teenager, I rarely get headaches. If I do, it is because I have been around some chemical or I am lacking rest. You sound like you are an informed individual. This is probably why you're on a more even keel than some others. Various foods and drugs cause mood swings and short tempers, due to their chemical composition. Take dyes or sugar alone for example. Keep up the good work, I'm sure you are glad you chose that healthier lifestyle. I can only hope that others will listen as well.

It makes you wonder, yes ? They know something we don't.... or maybe we do. I look around me and see, lots of obesity, sickness, disease, depression, and the list can go on. How many people are taking drugs for something ? And yet, the problems aren't being fixed!! Haven't we clued into this yet ? Why are people taking drugs if they aren't working ? More people see/saw this and are searching for alternatives. But many are still sticking with the word of government and medical officials because we are taught to put our complete trust and faith in them. They are the "experts".

I think people stick with them because they appear to "know" what to do, and appear know the answers. Most people have no clue. It is more fear based than anything. Fear of the unknown. I remember how many doctors tried to make my wife and I feel like total idiots for not vaccinating our children. This happens to many other people as well.

What is sad is that many doctors, also have no clue as to what they are giving people. They just repeat the info that they are told. In taking their sources' word for things, they are repeating the lie.

My sister's doctor had no idea that there was formaldehyde in the vaccines she was wanting to inject into my nephew. Once she looked up the ingredients, she was absolutely shocked. She truly had no idea. This may be the same for many many other doctors as well. They are just taught a certain way, told that things are good and never question anything. But others do, and they leave in search of the true way to help people. In the case of my sister's doctor, how she reacts and what she chooses to do from here on in, is her responsibility. Interesting that the pharmaceutical companies are the biggest donators to University and medical institutions. Curriculum anyone?

It is really simple little things that add up to the big picture. The pieces to the puzzle of health is not complicated, but putting it into action is hard for some, because it requires change. Staying away from unnecessary drugs/drug use is the first step.
