American Express Supports International Scams Agains Small Business Card holders

AMERICAN EXPRESS SMALL BUSINESS CARD HOLDERS NEED TO KNOW

If you are a small business Gold Card Member with American Express you may be the subject of an International Scam. Here is what you need to know. This is a true story. A company contracted with Traffic Magnet to generate traffic to a web site. The service was purchased with an American Expresss Gold Card. The purchase was for $29.85. Supposedly a one time event. However, the employee of the company used the American Express Card that was guranteed by the general manager of the company. The company Traffic Magnet is based in Singapore. An off shore company. Traffic Magnet then began to use the one time authorization to submitt charges to American Express every quarter. Over a five year time period they have bogus billed $597.00. The company closed its doors five years ago so there have been no on going relationships since that time, other than American express that keeps reopening the closed account to accept these bogus charges. Efforts to get American Express to refuse the charges has yielded no satisfactory results. And here is why. According to American Express if you authorize the use of your card or an employee to use your card, the company accepting the charge may continue to bill you even though you did not authorize any additional charges. It is stunning but that is how it works.

So protect yourself now before you find yourself in a perpetual charging enviornment. Here is the only thing you can do. You must close your account promptly and call in all employee cards. Review any merchants that have accepted charges and send them a notice that you have withdrawn any authorizations. They must respond back to you, if they don't American Express will continue to honor the charges.

You may initiate an investigation with American Express, However if the company they investigate like Traffic Magnet ignores them. They will only refund the current charge. When Traffic Magnet bills you again on your card, Even though you have closed your account they will reopen it and accept the charge and send you a statment for the annual fee to open the account and the charges form the vendor. According to American Express there is nothing you can do to stop the charges except initate a new investigation each time you get a charge. Call American Express and ask them to clarify this and you will find out this is the policy. 1-800 492 3344.

Stop the Scam close your account or you may be sending money to Singapore for the rest of your natural life. That is the American Express Policy. Its a fact.

Check it out for your own protection.

Re: American Express Supports International Scams Agains Small Business Card holders

I do hate when people post "stories" about "big company ripping off people" and when you DO read through it, you can see that not only the "people" was the stupid one in the event, but "Big company" was not at fault in any of the circumstnaces, but the "company who ripped off people" who is. Placing blame where it doesn't belong, and being overly critical for something "big company" could not do to help "people" automatically ,in "people's" eyes be the scammer.

So here we go about breaking down this "scam" and actually show fault on the "people" instead of
    1) used a company card to pay for a service from a company for whatever reason.
    2) Author doesn't provide link to the Traffic Magnet website to show what service was paid for, and what that service would include. "A one time payment" could have been "misinterpreted" or seen on another "offer" on that website, but not actually attributed to the "service" purahced by the company.

The company Traffic Magnet is based in Singapore. An off shore company. Traffic Magnet then began to use the one time authorization to submitt charges to American Express every quarter. Over a five year time period they have bogus billed $597.00.
    Breakdown part 2:
FOR FIVE YEARS AND THE COMPANY DIDN:T EVEN NOTICE? I can understand 1 or 2 months of "questionalbe" charges, but they let it go for FIVE YEARS? WTF? Who the hell does their bookkeeping?

The company closed its doors five years ago so there have been no on going relationships since that time, other than American express that keeps reopening the closed account to accept these bogus charges.
    Breakdownd part 3:

Here we alreayd see a whole in the story. IF company closed up shop, why didn't they cancel their card with AMEX. Once a card is cancled, its CANCELED. AMEX cannot reopen a charge account to "accept" more "bogus" charges, hence acruing more "debt". not only does this story fall apart here, the rest we can assume is an "urban legend".

Efforts to get American Express to refuse the charges has yielded no satisfactory results. And here is why. According to American Express if you authorize the use of your card or an employee to use your card, the company accepting the charge may continue to bill you even though you did not authorize any additional charges. It is stunning but that is how it works.
Um yeah, that's how ALL credit cards work if its a company account. DUH. But you said, that they company closed its doors. So did they or didn't they close their account with AMEX? And why didn't they question the charges 5 years ago?!!!

NO duh. So , where is it AMEX fault again?

You may initiate an investigation with American Express, However if the company they investigate like Traffic Magnet ignores them. They will only refund the current charge. When Traffic Magnet bills you again on your card, Even though you have closed your account they will reopen it and accept the charge and send you a statment for the annual fee to open the account and the charges form the vendor. According to American Express there is nothing you can do to stop the charges except initate a new investigation each time you get a charge. Call American Express and ask them to clarify this and you will find out this is the policy. 1-800 492 3344.
THEN its not AMEX's fault. IF TRAFFIC MAGNET IS contuing to charge their close account GUESS WHO YOU AHVE TO TAKE IT UP WITH? NOt AMEX. IF traffic magnet does "nothing" then LET AMEX no (document your contacts with TRAFFIC magnet via certied letters and of course a letter from your lawyer).

Stop the Scam close your account or you may be sending money to Singapore for the rest of your natural life. That is the American Express Policy. Its a fact.
no, its an opinion, and coming from a company that didn't do their due diligence.
