    Re: Assets/Investments?

During an economic downturn, distressed assets are more prevalent because companies are more likely to come into financial hardship. These opportunities might be difficult for an individual investor to identify and are risky because there is no guarantee that the asset values will rebound.

first ask yourself do you need education?
depending upon your ager would getting a BA in Finance of an MS in Financial engineering
you would then want to go to a good school that trains people in things like options ,etc.
there are several good " quant" schools that teach the mathematics of trading in the stock market
everything from Stuart School of Business at Illinois Institute of technology in Carbondale, IL to Lally school of business at RPI in Troy, NY to Courant school of mathematics at NYU in NYC
Now then if the investment is more of a hobby or avocation then go to the library and get good books like The Intelligent Investor by Ben graham
stick with the fundamentals and invest in good stocks. get a good newsletter many to chose from

avoid high risk things like FOREX which really are for professionals that have the training not the amateur

    Re: Assets/Investments?

    for a young investor
    1) make certain you have a stable job and steady income\
    2) have in savings or money market an emergency fund of at least 6 months expenses depending upon what you do and how stable it is
    3) then gradually start to save, the old adage " you can always live on half of what you make" still applies
get a budget you can stick with roughly no more than 25-35 % on housing, 10% on a car or transportation, 10-15% on food or restaurants, 10-15 % old student debts, medical/personal 10-15 % , entertainment 5% , utilities 5%, 1% miscellaneous ,etc.
    4) after you are on budget then save either in 401 K at work or on your own, ? IRA. ? SEP IRA etc.
    5) old rule of thumb
    25% growth
    25% aggressive growth
    25% growth and income
    25% international
