Miami feeling effects of Global Warming

MIAMI—The water rose quickly. At noon on a brilliantly sunny day here, several blocks from the beach, a lake of salt water suddenly appeared in the street, filtered up from the porous limestone that resides underneath the whole county of Miami-Dade. On the corner of 79th Street and 10th Avenue in the Shorecrest neighborhood, people wandered outside their apartment buildings to stare at the rising water, sloshing through in rain boots to take out their trash.

“It’s been like this for a few days now, rising and then receding and then rising again,” says Jessica Benitez, a resident who moved to Miami from her native Venezuela about a month and a half ago. She says she didn’t know these apartments would flood before she moved into them, and she still doesn’t know how to predict when the water is going to rise. She got home from the store a few days ago to find her street completely flooded, and she tied plastic bags around her feet to get to her door. “ has never told us anything. The water just sits there. It’s like there are no drains, and I don’t understand why,” she says.

She’s not the only one who feels that way. This is just one neighborhood of many in Miami-Dade dealing with the effects of Florida’s King Tide last week, the highest tide of the year. Coastal neighborhoods are hardest hit, but the flooding also reaches farther inland, to less affluent communities. It’s here where the consequences of climate change and sea-level rise could in fact be most grave, says Nicole Hernandez Hammer, a climate researcher with the Union of Concerned Scientists. Middle- and low-income households tend to be less resilient to shocks such as flooding, and they also run the highest risk of being forgotten in the rush to save the millions of dollars in real-estate investments on the waterfront.

“It’s getting worse. When you visit places that weren’t flooding 30 years ago, they’re flooding now,” says Hammer. Today, the Miami area experiences about six of these sunny-day flooding events per year. But the Union of Concerned Scientists projects that by 2045, they’ll be happening 380 times per year. “That’s two times per day in some areas,” she says.

This would be more appropriate for hillary with hers being: rapey bill, ugly tree joke chelsea, the Clinton Foundation and the snake herself, the one controlling all of them being George Soros (he who must not be named!)

You don't respect the institution when it's rigged. That's Trump's entire point. Disgraced former DNC chairman Debbie W. Schultz had to step down because we had evidence of her rigging the election against Bernie. Yes, when you're the head of the party committee and you're campaigning for one particular candidate while telling your staff to disparage the other, that's rigging. George Soros was also still one of Hillary's biggest contributors at that point. The corrupt politician acts like she respects the institution? Gee, I wonder why. Can you think of any reason why the corrupt politician would love the system she's benefitting from? Yea, people aren't really into him. That's why he is filling stadiums with tens of thousands of people AND that's all while turning thousands away. Hillary can't even fill a high school gym. Lastly, you ask why Hillary would try rigging the system while referencing polls that are being conducted by the exact same media conglomerates that donate to her campaign and are openly bias. Somebody just got woke.

When you search 'George Soros Pussy Riot' on Google, all you get are a bunch of pro-Kremlin Wordpress blogs, along with a couple of Neo-Nazi sites to boot.

Aren't those things tied in part to global warming though?

And I don't think global warming *per se* was ever the problem. Humanity as a whole would take a huge hit, but seeing as how our species has lived with less than a billion members for most of history I think we'd be fine as a species in dealing with the rising oceans and areas around the equator becoming uninhabitable, as long as no one was dumb enough to set off a nuclear war over that stuff.

EPA - or at least severely castrate it. Global warming is bullshit and we need to stop with the over-regulation. Even the local version here in NJ is shit. They're trying to restore an old rail line through mostly Sussex county into eventually Stroudsburg PA. They at least for the moment wanted to rebuild and reactivate a part of the line to get overnight train storage out of nearby town of Dover (or as we call it "Doverico", it's full of ne'er-do-well Hispanics who deface the trains as they sit in the yard at night). They started rebuilding the track and for over a year it's been stopped dead while the NJDEP does yet another "environmental impact study". What they could find that they didnt that last couple they did I don't know but these studies are time consuming, probably expensive and designed to discourage anyone from taking on projects the local environment nuts hate. We need to stop these people from impeding progress. They shut down building projects all the time if they find some species of animal hanging out in a puddle in the back of the property claiming it "wetlands". They get tremendous lobbying from unhinged people like the Sierra Club.

Not if the genius rich guys who definitely have their interests in mind tell them that global warming is a hoax and solar panels have dangerous chemicals in them.

when people make decisions that affect the globe based on incorrect information that counts as forcing your belief on people.

easiest example is anti science idiots ignoring the peril of global warming. Do they get a pass?

While global warming will probably destroy human *civilization*, I doubt it will drive the human *race* extinct. Humans are to adaptable for that.

The point that earth will hit the reboot button, probably global warming and/or lack of resources. We'll die off and probably also majority of all other animals because of us. The earth will then reboot for a couple of hundreds or thousands of years and new animals and plants will inhabit the earth again.

At this point it seems like we're too far gone to reverse the causes of global warming. Its horrifying to see the world around us be destroyed by our mistakes. The thread in the front page the other day about how 58% of the worlds wildlife has disappeared in 40 years really hit me hard.
