I asked this question of my mother when I was 9 or 10. She tried to explain it but couldn't. So even though I always sorta believed there was a God, I took a step towards not believing. By age 15 I was dead set against any church or religion. Now, many moons later all I can say is this;
Being that we came from something, and life all around us came from something, it would be hard for us to imagine, someone or something that came from nothing. But if anything, it would be God.

There is absolutely no problem with a universe that comes from nothing - all it requires is a quantum fluctuation and the existence of the correct laws of physics.
