    Natures SUNShine vs Market America

Market America loves to claim they make "superior" products.

Natures Sunshine has been Making high quality Vitamins for over 20 years.

this is not a debate on MLM vs MA I want a debate on quality alone.

First MA will be hard pressed to even respond since few if any MA distributors even have a clue as to where there product is made and who makes it.

How can you trust a product you know nothing about? except maybe what my upline told me or JR says ???

    please..

there are Plenty of good sources or Vitamins in the Market place.
start naming sources MA distributors or are you as clueless as most about who really makes the product you sell???? :)

A lot of the products are okay. Still catering to pill takers. Will have to keep an eye on these guys as the ingredients listed in the products below are not exactly the greatest, especially for vitamins. I wouldn't give any of these to my children personally. A lot of the adult formulas are decent. I have a friend whose wife is looking at joining. Until I looked at the website, I have never researched them. I am now enlightened. Ingredients speak for themselves.

No, I am not in that company. I was posting the ingredients lists of a couple of Nature's Sunshine products. Stuff like fructose and sorbiotl/mannitol is garbage. If a person wants to eat junk food that is fine. They know the risks. But don't be misleading to people telling things are good for them while marketing "health in a bottle".

The more research I do the more irritating things get. I've spent hours reading a lot of the Market America threads at this forum and at other sites and, aside from a lot of personal attacks and/or testimonials, not a lot actually gets cleared up.

I have zero interest in whether they are or are not a "true MLM" company. Or their comp plan. For myself, it's not something I'd want to participate in. What I keep seeing is a lot of chest pounding and obfuscation with scientific jargon as to why one company's product is better than another, and no real proof to back it up.

Some have stated (repeatedly) that "Market America's products are manufactured by Puritan's Pride, est 1960." Also, that "Puritan Pride does not sell OPC-3 or the Isotonix brand. They make it for MA exclusively and I am sure that MA has a non-compete document as well to assure they stay out of the OPC business."

Well, I guess I'll call Puritan's Pride legal department soon to see if I can find out about an alleged non-compete document. It's interesting that a much vaunted vitamin company, whose impeccable 40 year history and credentials qualified them to be the manufacturer for Market America, still:

    1) makes their own antioxidant superblend, with higher amount (3000 mcg) of Pycnogenol, and
    2) makes NO isotonic delivery products at all (and MA has no exclusive claims to that delivery method.) I wonder if they're waiting for real proof that isonotic delivery is better, not just different?
    3) sells many, many supplements including various ones in OPC-3, albiet not in isotonic formulation.

In other threads, you get this: "Market Americas health, nutrition, and anti aging products are manufactured by Nutrametrix." and that does indeed appear to be who manufactures MA's health products.

Visit the Nutrametrix Site. It has a link to Market America right from their front page. Read the site. They manufacture Market America's products, including their "unique isotonic supplements, Gene SNP DNA product, Digestive Enzyme Formula with Probiotics, the Transitions Lifestyle System, ORAC" et al.

(Their Nutrametrix OPC ingredient label is identical to what's in Market America's OPC-3 product. Well, nearly identical; Nutrametrix does list the the two correct U.S. Patent Office numbers for Horphag's Pycnogenol®.)

So...yes, that must be why Puritan Pride Vitamin Company makes MA's OPC formula for them but is bound by some MA "non-compete document...to assure they stay out of the OPC business." Nutrametrix is in the OPC business, too (and so are other manufacturers with stringent quality controls, COAs, supervision, testing, third party independent testing etc.)

So, MA evangelists reading this, tell me WHO IS your manufacturer? Prove to me that they absolutely, unequivocably, legally cannot sell their same quality, tested, guaranteed ingredients to any other companies.

It gets down to who has more of what, in which combination and why, and does it have verified origins, purity testing and processing/quality control, in "their" products (before they slap their own label on it). The rest is marketing & spin, and I'm not paying more for that.

I too would love to hear the answer to this. Have heard a whole bunch of answers from the MA people as to who they have been TOLD the manufacturer was. Even heard that Pfiser and Merck were the ones making them. I happened to be at the doctors office and ran into the Merck rep there and asked them about it. He had never heard that at all and said he would be seriously surprised if that was true. Tried to call the Pfiser people and didn't really get anywhere the one lady told me that she wasn't aware of any relationship between MA and Pfiser and also would be surprised if that were true. She gave me another name to talk to about it and they did not return my call. So very good question. Don't understand the secrecy if they have nothing to hide why not say who the maker really is. Why all the different answers as to who makes it also. Very good point on this one.

    • Market America is a distribution company, not a manufacturing company. Most product brands you buy in the grocery store are made by a company that manufactures for multiple brands. I would think that the efficacy, safety and overall quality of the product would be the important thing, not the name of the manufacturer.
    • nutraMetrix does not manufacture anything for anybody. nutraMetrix a division of Market

    • As a distribution company, nutraMetrix is able to choose different manufacturers for different products. Therefore, they choose only the best manufacturer for each product. In addition, they can provide a wide array of services and innovative products for the practice that a single manufacturer could not provide.
    • There are several organizations and companies performing third-party GMP certification. These include NNFA, Shuster Labs, NSF International and USP. All nutraMetrix suppliers of supplements have independent GMP certification to demonstrate compliance with regulations.
    • By working with a contract manufacturer, in contrast to being the onsite manufacturer, an extra layer of quality control is in place. Since nutraMetrix acts as an intermediary between the consumer and the manufacturer, they have no incentive or interest to receive, accept or ship out inferior, defective or a sub-par product. In fact it is just the opposite. Their name and reputation is on every carton, bottle, etc. making them especially committed to the best quality control measures.
Products must be manufactured using predefined ingredients to meet finished goods specifications. Batch records for each lot are sent to the nutraMetrix Quality Control (QC) department for review, approval and retention. Batch records document the ingredients used, blending times, equipment used and who did the work.
Laboratory test results performed in the manufacturers’ lab are copied to nutraMetrix QC. Products are sent to an independent laboratory to assure adherence to specifications before shipping to the distribution warehouse.
Upon receipt at the warehouse, nutraMetrix examines for damaged goods, proper labeling, and consistency in taste, odor, and appearance. Their in-house lab tests nutraMetrix isotonic
Furthermore, any product found to be less than optimal is quarantined for destruction or return to the supplier. The manufacturer will bear the cost of returned goods. nutraMetrix is committed to accepting and distributing.

    • Isotonix products make the label claim of being "isotonic capable." When prepared as directed on the label, the solution is within a range of tonicity matching the human body. Periodic tests are conducted on these products to ensure that the isotonicity range is maintained.
The basis for the isotonic line is physiologic. Isotonic solutions work via normal body physiology to deliver nutrients quickly as compared to solid forms. These physiologic principles have been well described in the medical literature. Here are a few sample references:

The degree of absorption of bioflavonoids, a diverse and complex group of plant derived phytonutrients, has been a frequent debate among scientists. Monomeric flavonoid species are known to be absorbed within 2 h. The kinetics of plasma reactive oxygen species, a reflection of bioactivity, of a commercial blend of flavonoids, OPC-3((R)) was investigated. OPC-3((R)) was selected to compare absorption of an isotonic flavonoid solution vs tablet form with the equivalent amount of fluid. In the case of isotonic OPC-3((R)) the reactive oxygen species of the subject's plasma decreased significantly (p < 0.05), six times greater than OPC-3((R)) tablets by 10 min post-consumption. After 20 min the isotonic formulation was approximately four times more bioavailable and after 40 min twice as bioavailable as the tablet, respectively. At time points 1 h and later, both isotonic and tablet formulations lowered oxidative stress, although the isotonic formulation values remained significantly better throughout the investigation period of 4 h. These findings point to a dramatically accelerated bioavailability of flavonoids delivered in an isotonic formulation. Copyright (c) 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
    • Horphag sells pcynogenol to numerous companies. Market America and nutraMetrix are the exclusive supplier of isotonic capable pycnogenol.
    • There is one product line that uses a delivery system patented by Merck. Of course a pharm rep probably would not know about that. They have a very narrow focus and are selling their latest most profitable drug.

Any marketing companies always make a huge list of claims or explanations, like the one above, while no one can ever understand what they are talking about.

Not a single consumer has ever been able to read the detailed raw ingredient specifications of Market America' OPC product.

The most transparent isotonic OPC products are FrenchGlory brand, and every consumer can read the published specifications of the raw OPC ingredients from native French companies.
