    Donation request

Received a donation request from National Breast Cancer Research Center. Is this a valid organization? Does anyone know anything about it?

    Re: Donation request

The first thing to look for is contact information, name of company, or agency with complete Physical address and contact numbers. Most legitimate company are on the web, whereas if this was a National Breast Cancer Research Center, the website address would have an extension .org
2nd do research about this company, most you can google search almost anything. Hope this helps

    Re: Donation request

That organization is about as close to a scam as you can get. They spend a whole 3.8% of the money donated to them on their programs and services. The rest goes to employee paychecks and advertising. So, for every $1 your send them, 3 and a half cents goes to a program or service and 96.5 cents goes to lining someone's pockets. Donate elsewhere.

    Re: Donation request

If by "valid" you mean that the company exists, then, yes, a company by that name exists. However, only 3 cents per dollar donated makes it to someone in need, the rest is used to pay wages, salaries and administrative costs. That is pretty much the definition of a scam.

Most charities are 98% "operational costs" and 2% charity, so use your best judgement.
