Re: Native American Trust Data threat questioned.
tommywho70x asks yannash a question: are the Blackfeet one of the 'Five Civilized Tribes' you refer to?
Also, are the Blackfeet elders the people who led the struggle to have native people's bones and sacred artifacts returned from museums?[/QUOTE]
Tommy-
No the Blackfoot tribe is not one of the 5 civilized tribes.
Those are: Choctaw, Chickasaw, Seminole, Cherokee, Creek
I don't know if was the Blackfoot elders who led that issue for the museums.

Re: Native American Trust Data threat questioned.
I know the Five Civilized Tribes were among the many tribes involved in getting the bones and artifacts removed from the Smithsonian and other museums and returned for a proper burial. I'll have to do a little research and get back to you on whether the Blackfeet elders led that very important drive for humane justice. I had heard at one time it was the Iroqouis. I do know that Thomas Jefferson derived(or copied) the United States Declaration of Independence from the Iroqouis Tribal Constitution.

Yannash, the Blackfoot elders were responsible for getting the Field Museum in Chicago to return remains and artifacts to their rightful owners and I'm reasonably certain they were at the forefront of any other appeals and/or litigation with other museums that followed.
Your statement about the Iroquois nation on Thomas Jefferson's writings and vision for the structure of the United States government is very true -- something 'Christian America' needs to be more aware of in their approach to relations with the indigenous culture of the 'Red Man' whose homelands we have expropriated and claimed as their own.Last edited by tommywho70x; 10-25-2005 at 05:15 AM.
