Can you live a normal life without your brain?

    Take a look at this:

French doctors are still racking their brains over the case of a patient who is said to live a normal life despite the fact that his brain is almost completely absent, reports RIA Novosti news agency. Quoting an article published by The Lancet, the agency says that the 44-year-old French civil servant, a married man and a father of two, was admitted to hospital in 2003 after suffering mild weakness in his left leg.
It makes me wonder how many people in the world walk around without a brain and still appear normal. Is that the functions of the brain have been overrated? Is there any way anyone can explain this? No brain but you go through school and get good grades; maybe. No brain but you fall in love, marry and start a family? No brain but you get a job and get paid because you're good at what you do! Amazing.

My guess would be most of them. :spin2:

Seriously, look around one day and just watch people. Most people I have ever met may have a functioning brain their head, but they seem to only use for the most basic of motor skills needed to survive.

People don't seem to want to think anymore.

Try talking to them on a daily basis! I can guarantee most people don't have a brain.

    Sorry, but I couldn't resist .... :

I could while away the hours, conferrin' with the flowers
    Consultin' with the rain.
And my head I'd be scratchin' while
    my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.
I'd unravel every riddle for any individ'le,
    In trouble or in pain.
With the thoughts you'll be thinkin'
    you could be another Lincoln
If you only had a brain.
Oh, I could tell you why The ocean's near the shore.
I could think of things I never thunk before.
And then I'd sit, and think some more.
I would not be just a nothin' my head all full of stuffin'
My heart all full of pain.
I would dance and be merry, life would be a ding-a-derry,
    If I only had a brain ....

ON Topic : Does anybody feel my previous posts was of acceptance ?.Are organs Pre programmed by the brain.?
It's my understanding that organs do nothing other than what their cells are designed to do according to our DNA and that's it. For example: Our lungs do not move... it is our diaphragm that expands them to take in air and compresses them to expel air. They do what they do because they are designed to do it... no programming involved.
Our diaphragm is designed to move in a specific way which happens to cause the lungs to expand and contract. Our heart is a muscle or collection of muscles expanding and contracting in a specific way... which, as I understand biology, is all muscles do... expand and contract.

I think we're both riding down the same road here... we're just not medical people or biologists. :)

Personally, I would not think that without a brain, as in literally, is normal at all. May be other people can live without the other part of the brain but it would not make them really complete. They are somewhat impaired on other areas.

There is no way you could live a normal life without your brain. Your brain does everything for you. Without your brain you wouldn't be able to see, move, hear, or anything. You wouldn't have any emotions, you couldn't be happy or even angry. If someone becomes brain dead they might as well just hang it up.

I have the same question that you have. I believe that the fact that the guy could live a normal life, he must have had some amount of brain cells somewhere. The absence of the brain means the death of the body. The brain is the central house that sends signals all around the body for us to pump blood, feel, eat, move, etc.
