    Scam.com painfully slow / unuseable?

I love scam.com, but recently the site has been painfully slow and often "times out" waiting to do anything (especially new posts and searching).

Is this widespread, or should I just give up? I'm in Canada using broadband.

Re: Scam.com painfully slow / unuseable?

I posted this in another thread on the same topic in another forum but I feel it bears repeating.

The way this site is run is very disappointing. It seems the mods do what they can with the tools the admin supplies but the admin seems lacking. Sure they give us these great(sarcasm) cartoony text graphics but any sort of legitimate site improvements go waiting. Go over to alexa.com and look at the three year chart for this sites traffic, it's in the toilet.

It's been years since I registered and account here, does anyone know if you need to type in one of those anti-spam codes when you register? I know they are available for vBulletin boards like this one. That would at least ensure that each spam posting account needed to be set up by hand and not mass produced by bots and macros. I'd hate to see the same anti-spam controls added for each post you make but that might be better than the spam we have now.

And honestly, it would be nice to hear the admin address any of the issues in this thread or about the site in general. Their silence only fosters an impression that they have no problem with the state of disrepair this site finds it's self in and perhaps it's time to look for another community to apply our efforts to.

It seems to be faster today so hopefully they are working on the speed.. and the double post thing as well.

I've written to Zachary via email. I forward all the emails I get to remove posts too.

I don't know what else I can do. I told him I can't moderate until he fixes the site.

Maybe we should all go on strike?

I pretty much have been for at least a week just because it has been so hard to get anything to work. Showed up today and it was at least fast enough I could get rid of the porn.

I gave up on the investment forum. I also don't understand why the spambots can't be prevented and it would take me at least an hour to clean up that section..

I WILL continue to clean up the porn (when the site is working at a decent pace) simply because it isn't fair to the unsuspecting but as for the rest.. lets fix it please!

I'm happy to say the speed is now much improved compared to when I first posted. But I too see most of the posts having all the text doubled. At least the site is usable :)

The speed is fine again, but the double post thing is annoying.

someone asked about the anti spam thing at sign up, its still there.

on the spam issue, on another forum i am a member of, you have to have a minimum of ten posts before you can post links and it works fine there i think

Re: Scam.com painfully slow / unuseable?

I too have noticed differences when accessing this site. Many times, I get a "server too busy", or 1 minute or more loading times. I'm connected via ethernet so everything usually loads just fine. Still, registration was free so I have no reason to complain. :spin2:

And, YES You must complete an anti-spam code to register. But to be honest, It seems to be very easy to decipher. I'm not positive, but I feel that a spambot could be designed to easily crack it. Maybe the admins could update it to a more complex one.

Attatched is a jpg of the code area. Maybe even slanting the letters would be enough to help shut down the porn spam.

I think the mods are doing a good job...you know its a non paying position. If I happen to see spam...I imediately report it as spam. There are always going to be glitches of some type but I'm satisfied with the performance.

WOW!! I am laughing because I didn't even attempt to look at the post dates here until now. I do believe I am WAY behind on this subject. yb: Also, it's been over 2 months since I see any porn related spam. Even then, it was not there long at all.

The moderators do not get paid??? That sucks!!
Well, then I must say, Thank you all for the work you do here! I could not imagine all the crap that would be posted here if it weren't for the mods!

Agreed. It's been nice to see Scam.com recover from most of the problems that were discussed in this thread.

Not true. I get a check for a million bucks from the Admin each week along with a nice thank you note. OK, so that's a total lie since I've only heard twice from the Admin. And regardless of us being here, you can still find a lot of crap posted (sort of like this post). But thanks for the compliment. We try.
As of April23, 2010, I will no longer participate as a moderator or member of a site where posts and threads are removed unjustly by the ADMIN or a rogue mod.

I now see what you mean. OMG!! My brain hurts after seeing posts on this thread, http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?p=764062#post764062

The really bad part is that none of the info posted there, could ever be considered useful.
After all, this site is called scam.com, not destroyyourbraincells.com
If we as users are ever given the ability to vote on which forums are removed from this site, My vote will go to the thread referenced in this post.
