    Camera Scams!!!

I have been researching where to get the cheapest price for a canon Digital Rebel XTi, and I found a few retailers with very low prices.

    http://www.expresscameras.com

    and

    http://www.ccicameracity.com/

Both seem like very fradulent retailers. I called them up before I bought something, and it seems as if they are "out of stock" but will get it in shortly. And the second time I called, they were "ready to ship it to my house." I called within the same hour....

    Hmm..

    Any thoughts?

honestly dont know but i would be worried. you might try to call them again and ask for a sup. tell them the situation of the different answers and see what they say. i tend to believe a sup for the most part over a csr when it comes to something like that...just sounds fishy

I looked at the sites and called customer service express says:
says out of stock....and i told him what you said and he said it was the other way around...i said no but he wanted to arguee.
also their hours of operation are strange...most places stay open on sat because its a busy day. also when he answered he didnt say company name just can i help you. dont think thats good customer service.

called customer service for camercity and they say: in stock ships right away. again didnt answer with company name, and fumbled with phone when answered

not sure how much help that is but that is what i found out. didnt see ya on aim or woulda told ya there. :p

You must be very, very careful when looking to buy a camera online. A lot of "too good to be true" price places will try to sell you loads of accessories that are things that are supposed to come w/the camera anyway, things like batteries, instruction books, etc., again, things that are supposed to be IN THE BOX in the first place. Then they'll try to sell you lenses, warranties, etc., at inflated prices and then when you tell them that you only want the camera they'll then tell you, oh, it's not in stock.

Or they let you order it online, then call you with customer service concerns, then when you call back to verify their concerns they'll try the upsell BS stuff, then it'll mysteriously not be in stock.

Or, finally, they'll just let you order it, charge you and never ship it, then you get into a pissing match between them and your CC company, a huge hassle!

Two things, any company you're looking to buy from, run a google search on and you should get to infomation about merchants. And, 2nd, go to www.dpreview.com for a lot of great digicam information.

Actually, that's the only thing NOT fishy about both stores. For those of the Jewish faith, Saturday is the sabbath. The overwhelming majority of the camera stores in and around New York, including Adorama and B&H, are owned by men whom are Jewish.

In the case of your Canon, do yourself a favor and buy from an authorized dealer. Canon, like Nikon and everyone else has cameras destined for the US markets, as well as Asian and European. Many times when you go for low price, you're buying grey market (non-US) merchandise, and get no warranty at all. I personally have used BeachCamera.com, which for decades was a brick and mortar, and switched to internet sales, Newegg.com is another great place to buy from.
