    Requesting for Charity

Hi all my name is Darren,

I have never asked for charity before but when i typed it in a search engine i came up with your site link.

My wife had a car accident last year, shattered her back in a few places and now is paralized. I spent 9 years in the u.s. army and am now disabled, we have two kids. We are extremely poor and are in need of assistance. Our car is on its last leg and we really need a wheelchair accessable dependable vehicle. In addition the house we live in is extremely old and the doors (except for the front) will not allow for a wheelchair to pass through them. So we need a dwelling which will allow for a wheelchair to pass through the doors. In addition this will give her a sense of "independence" to where she can move freely about the house and can bathe in the bathroom.

Whats sad is.... i have searched the internet only to my disgust. It seems all these charity sites only want to take things, and dont provide a place for a "needy" person such as ourselves to apply.

One of them, wont say which, but seemed to be a popular one, provided a contact email, which didnt even work

In conclusion if you know a place where a needy person can actually apply for help with these things please........ let me know........ i am desperate and cant seem to find a place that provides us a place to apply for it.

    Sincerely,

    Darren L. Wheeler

nine years? what kind of enlistment is that?
your government disability should take care of most of your needs and you can turn to your church for the rest. you would be amazed at how much people will help you if you are legit.

unless you live on pluto, you should already have people tripping over each other to help you. believe me, most people are good people.

    Wallchart & Booklet Scam

If anyone has been called recently (UK) by a company claiming that you agreed to support them by advertising on a wallchart or in a booklet and it is for charity you may want to check out my website:

    www.adscams.co.uk

I have been contacted in the past by these companies and I think they are now getting a little more "ACTIVE!"

    How do I ... ?

    Hi All,

How do I report a charity scam to proper authorities? I know of a website that is positively ripping off others. there aint no charity.

I also would like to know what the penalties are and how they can prosecute, if thats even possible? how long would someone get for internet/religious fraud? How can 'prayer fraud" be proven? or is it a scam that is perfect?

I would like to see this person arrested and never doing what hes doing agian. is this a possibility? same guy doing two or three traceable web/mail fraud.

Am i able to do something locally to a local person with the police?

    Thanks in advance,
    SOI!

You would probably start with the Better Business Bureau and the State Attorney General that the charity is headquartered in. You can even try reporting it to the Internal Revenue Service.

If they find merit in your complaint, they will open an investigation.

100% agreed. I run a non-profit and those are the exact steps to take. I appreciate you stepping forward. People that are dishonest in non-profit make it harder for the rest of us to make it. Since the majority of our income comes from the public and their donations we need to make sdure that the people that are out there are legitimate. GB ;)

    Re: How do I ... ?

Thanks for your quick replys. One of the charities doesnt even exsist for certain. its a fake name and funds go to paypal.

I will contact the IRS, State A.G and BBB. Thanks.

Not sure how to go about complaining to paypal. I cant find a link that fits the situation.

I went and did a whois search and it stems back to an apparently wealthy man in the states but the domain is registered in another country. i was going to complain to the owner of the domain but i think that the scam jockeys are the owners.

    Thanks agian,

As far as the Pay Pal part of it, you can go to Pay Pal and on the lower right you will see a link that says Protect yourself from fraudulent emails. You can click on that link and see some of your options.

Also you can go to the PayPal fights fraud link and see more options.

Pay Pal takes a very serious roll against fraud.

    Re: How do I ... ?

thanks agian. we'll see what happens. ive reported them/him/whoever they are.

cant wait to see it on the news, if that would happen. i was going to report it to the local news station but i think they would just expose them (if anything), no prosecution. IF they were to get shut down, would be back open in 24 horus somewhere else. I have never seen the folks in their stories get prosecuted, even on Dateline (hate that show btw). guilty poeple caught on camera and nothing happens.

    Re: Requesting for Charity

I posted a reply, dont know if I was logged on though.
If it comes through and there is a double post I am sorry.

at any rate what I had said was...
I uderstand the position that you are in for we have been going through the same type of thing.
having been hard working self employed people most of our lives just trying to get by and standing on our own two feet.
My wife and I are like many Americans, doing the best that we can and proud of our independance. We've always been charitable and compassonate yet to proud to ask for anything.

Roughly 2 months ago we found ourselves in the position of having my wife diagnosed with MS and having no health Insurance.

Since then have been to Mexico about three times for Cat scans,MRI's Blood tests,Pain Medication, Anti-biotic's and a slew of steroids and vitimins.

Even at Mexican price's it has bankrupted us, she still is in need of a spinal tap and has run out of Meds.

As a last resort I have contacted several entities that are suppose to help people like us to find...

" you have to be indigent..."
" you have to be homeless..."
"you have to live in this county..."
"you can only have $ 800. a month income..."
"you will have to wait for a period of two years after you've filed all the proper forms..."
" We will send you some lititure..."

Even NORD told us that they only help those that are Insured.

Also like you I have scoured the internet looking for some relief with the same results..thousands of sites asking for charity, not one (yet) offering any.

Also like you, I have thrown my pride out the door in an attempt to find some help for my loved one.
I do struggle to keep from becoming bitter. As I said in my other response. We have no extended family, nor do we belong to any Organized Religon therefore the response you get from those who like to pass the buck dont apply here.

What does apply here is this..compassion, as bad as things are here, and they are bad.If you will email me your address, I will send you a little help and hopfully faith, not so much in a God, or even your fellow man, but faith in tomorrow. I too will gain strenght in the belief that one good turn will deserve another and maybe...there will be some forthcoming help for my wife.

    Best wish's

Ummm, I hate to tell you this, but PAYPAL has, itself, been ripping people off for longer than you'd probably care to think about. Check out the "No PayPal" site, and you'll see what I mean.

    Re: How do I ... ?

Can we ask what / whom you are accusing of such a scam? How is it that you know there is no charity, for example?

    A few points to consider:

    1) Not every charity is going to be listed in sites like charity navigator, or GuideStar, especially young charities. By definition an organization is charitable if it is organized as a 501(c)(3) corporation, and in the intial stages of a charity's operation, you may not be able to verify much more than corporate status because it takes 6 months or longer for an organization to get IRS tax exempt status, and this is compounded by the fact that organizations don't need to file for tax exempt status for up to 21 months, with the status being retroactive once granted.

    2) Religious organizations are even more tough, because a religious nonprofit, if an auxiliary of a church, is not even required to file for tax exemption NOR is it required to incorporate. So, there is little proof to be had with such an organization, and in these cases, it is the organization's works that speak, and their transparency about where they get money, how much, and what they do with it.

I am very fast to come down on charities that are obviously fraudulent, or to speak out against behaviors that seem likely to be fraud. But in your note I observe a considerable amount of vagueness. You should realize that if you make an allegation of fraud against a legitimate group just because you "have a feeling", you really open yourself up for libel or worse. You need to be careful, and ask yourself if you really have evidence that the charity you are mentioning is fraudulent.

Why don't you share the charity in question with this group, and your reasons for concern?

    Thanks, and God Bless

REFUNDS!!! Better Universe Movie CLub Plus MLM Charity Deception - REFUNDS!!!!

The is a very important message to anyone effected by the deception and manipulation used by Better Universe/Movie Club Plus and it's high level representatives, which resulted in any monetary loss. Former reps who were lured into the Better Universe MLM by the company's hype, lies, and deception over the past 6 months can get a reversal of any and all charges through their Credit Card Companies (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc.). Simply call the credit card company, which your monthly membership was charged to, and tell them that you would like to dispute the charges from Better Universe and/or Movie Club Plus. Most former representatives have been able to get a refund on the charges direct through thier credit card companies being that Better Universe and Movie Club Plus did not fulfill promises and/or deliver products or services as described by representatives and management through conference calls or Emails. Representatives have been able to receive full reimbursement on all charges from Better Universe from up until 180 days from the time the charge was made. This also depends on your credit card company as well as to time of charges. Most refund automatically up to 90 days, but you can dispute any charges no matter how long ago if you feel a product or service was not delivered. I filled a dispute that is being processed back 4 months to receive a refund on charges for my monthly fee to Better Universe. Thousands of former representatives found out the company made promises using hype, lies and deception to keep representatives within Better Universe and also to lure new representatives into the MLM. With that in mind Better Universe has no way to dispute the charges based on the hype and deception surrounding Beryl Wolk and also events that were supposed to happen by specific dates... All now known to be acknowledged lies, exaggeration, deception and manipulation. Also be sure to file a dispute on all charges through your credit card companies for any orders not received from Movie Club Plus. The company charged magazines, dvds, cds and games to members that were also not received after months.
