    A Quarter Too Much

Figured I'd post what follows to the board and gather your thoughts on this.
My brother is a preacher. His wife sent me this in an email recently.

How does what follows relate to what's been going on here lately?

    A quarter to much

Several years ago, a new preacher moved to Houston , Texas . Some weeks
after he arrived, he had occasion to ride the bus from his home to the
downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had
accidentally given him a quarter too much change.

As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, "You'd better give
the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it." Then he thought, "Oh,
forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little
amount? Anyway, the bus company gets too much fare; they will never
miss it. Accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep quiet."

When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, then he handed
the quarter to the driver and said, "Here, you gave me too much
change." The driver with a smile replied, "Aren't you the new
    preacher
in town? I have been thinking lately about going to worship somewhere.
    I
just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change.
I'll see you at church on Sunday"

When the preacher stepped off of the bus, he literally grabbed the
nearest light pole, held on, and said, "Oh God, I almost sold your Son
    for a quarter."

Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read . This is a
really scary example of how much people watch us as Christians and will
put us to the test! Always be on guard and remember (as I try to
remember) that you carry the name of Christ on your shoulders when you
call yourself "Christian." I'm glad I got this forwarded to me as a
reminder. YOU should forward it too. :) I hope you all have a great
    day!!!

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

    Hi Bibleman,

Long time; hope you are well and my prayers are always with you. :)

As a Christian I'm not supposed to boast about myself, so I'll only say that I went to the bank last week and the teller told me that she cashed my son's check for $300.00 more than she should have. She had no idea untill he came back in and handed her the money.

I didn't bring it up to him and he didn't tell me about the event, but I only hope that somewhere down the line my kids will come to understand that my husband and I have done our best to teach our children well.

    Good advice.

Words of Wisdom, Bibleman. Pass it along.

It's the kind of message I've tried to remind the zealots about all the time. They are the only ones who never listen.

Boy, will they be in for a rude surprise come judgment day.

I find it telling that the preacher had to give it a moments thought. I'm an athiest and giving the quarter back would have been instinctive.

I can only imagine their response....because it came from me...
Probably something similar to Tony's "love" thread a while back.

Biggest problem with most of them is that they tend to get so caught up in the legalistic mindset that they lose sight of the "spirit" of their faith...besides that, nothing good can be gained from listening to a sorry atheist like me, right? :p

If he had just given the quarter back right away there would be no message in the story.

The story is clearly aimed at Christians and especially those with the "holier than thou," "do what the bible says and not what you see me do," "I'm forgiven of my sins forever therefore I can sin," kind of mindset. ;)

now that i visit this a second time i would re-arrange it more to my understanding like so

    your thoughts,they may become actions
    your actions,they may become words
    your words,they may become habits
your habits, they may become your character

"may" referring to the fact that it is all according to your own permission!?of course, how many are aware of their own permissions!?or the idea/principle/operational source of permission/self permission itself!?hehe!!.....just askin

I only found out I was an athiest when I had it pointed out to me here. :)
I also discovered I'm a moron and an idiot who believes everything the government tells me. ;)
