The Mets latest embarrassment - Amway

Hey sports fans - The Mets were in bed with Madoff.

Looks like they got a new lover. You guessed it, Amway.

The Mets aren't saying anything, but Amway is.

I guess they are all excited about their new boy friend.

    BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH™

Amid fresh reports that the Mets are still in debt, Amway has moved into a storefront at Citi Field.

The imagery isn't great for the Mets, to say the least. Amway, a business known for false promises of riches, was busy settling a class action lawsuit alleging the company is a pyramid scheme at the same time Mets' ownership group was fighting a lawsuit by the trustee for the Bernie Madoff victims over its role in Madoff's Ponzi scheme......

Amway is a multilevel marketing opportunity, to use the euphemism, or a pyramid scheme .....

    Sports writers spare no punches.

    BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH™

    Oh there is more.....

"Amway selected the space due to the high concentration of our highly successful Independent Business Owners in the Queens area," Hartwig said. "As well as Citi Field's ability to offer an highly functional, attractive space, lots of parking, traffic opportunities. So our decision was really, space first."

So ostensibly the storefront isn't primarily about recruiting new people to buy and sell Amway products (and recruit yet more people do the same).
    ....
Hartwig said that the primary goal of the space was to provide a meeting place for I.B.Os, and that although "we welcome everyone to learn more about the Amway opportunity," whatever walk-in custom they got during the season from Mets-fan traffic was secondary.
    ...
Someone will be on-site at all times when the building is open, Hartwig confirmed, to recruit new potential I.B.Os.

To recruit IBOs ... You gotta be shitting me.

    Mets Fans SUCK.

Hum... come to think of it.... It might be a perfect match.

Don't ya just love sports writers.

This guy calls 'em as he sees 'em........

The New York Mets’ Latest Partnership Is With A Company That Specializes In Pyramid Schemes
    By Tom Ley

The Mets continue to be the deadbeat, alcoholic uncle of the MLB family. The organization's latest source of embarrassment comes as the result of an under-the-radar decision to lease out a Citi Field storefront to Amway, the notoriously shady "multilevel marketing" company that makes its money by ensnaring people in a pyramid scheme.
This must be the No BullShit zone.

    Yup, there's more....

You know what isn't a good look? An MLB franchise that was bankrupted by a Ponzi scheme entering into a partnership with a company that recently paid $150 million in settlement money to the victims of its pyramid scheme. This is almost as bad as the time the Mets welcomed the shyster from 1-800 Flowers as a minority owner.

Get excited, Mets fans. Once you're finished supporting a shoddily run organization by attending a Mets game, you can swing by the Amway store and support a fraudulent one as well.

And that's why sports journalists shouldn't cover business.

    I'm sorry, I missed that.

Why shouldn't sports journalists shouldn't cover business?

Seems to me they should cover more MLM stories.

BTW, thanks for posting those awesome links, Yawn!

Just when I thought the mets might get their act together, now I know they're screwed.

Maybe they can adopt the Amway recruiting rep as their mascot and kick out mister met.

It can't get any worse than this, folks.

Sports writers cover sports, and the business of sports.

This is nothing new, and they do an excellent job at both.

Everything About This Mets-Amway Business Is Just Baffling
    By WILL LEITCH
    .....
Let's suss out all of the strange aspects to this.

    1. Of all the businesses in the world for the Mets to associate themselves with, they chose one that has been sued for being a pyramid scheme. There are so many shady corporations in the world to do business with. You could pick one with ties to insider trading or the subprime lending crisis. One that pollutes the environment. One profiting off third-world child labor. So many options! But nope — the Mets decided to have a big sign on the side of their stadium with the name of a company that settled a class-action lawsuit for $155 million that claimed it was "a pyramid scheme in which distributors rarely sell products to outside customers, only to other new distributors they bring in, who must bring more recruits in to make money." The Mets couldn't have picked a stranger corporate partner if they had decided to sign a deal with a gardening company that happened to be called Madoff Landscapers.

And that's why 99.9% of MLMers shouldn't be in "business".

    It's a nice comparison though...

Imagine that....Amway peddling Soap & Hope at your local arena?

    How far can they go?

An excellent job? One of these article (I forget which) reported that Quixtar sued Amway, accusing it of being a pyramid scheme.

    Yeah excellent job that. :

Yup, that's what it said -

The company settled a class-action lawsuit in 2010 for a figure in the neighborhood $150 million. The suit was brought on by Quixtar, who accused Amway of engaging in a pyramid scheme.

And of course, Amway caved in and settled instead of taking the fight to court.
