What was the meaning of the statement of John the baptist to Jesus!

In the gospel accordn to st luke,John came forth before the comin of Jesus to prepare a holy people for christ.
It is John himself who baptised christ in the Jordan river.
But when John was prisoned by herod,he sent two of his disciples to Jesus saying" Are you who is to come or should we wait for another?".
    This is the statement.
Now from the statement, during the baptism of christ a dove came forth from heaven to jesus and the voice was heard from heaven," Thou art my beloved son, with thee I'm well pleased". All people plus John himself heard these words and saw everything that happened.
So the statement of John proves that he was not sure by then that the prophecy was fulfilled. Or maybe it was Jesus to tell John that,"I have now come John, the prophecy is fulfilled" then baptism but John baptised someone he didnt know.
And if he knew,so John was abit insan**** haha.
    What was the meaning?
