HELL - A Place Of Fire and Eternal Torment?

What does Hell represent to you? To Christians, it is the most unappealing place one would want to end up in. Many people have come to understand that Hell is a place of fire and torment of souls unto eternity, as per according to what their Church doctrine has taught and inculcated since childhood. To others, it's merely a myths, a pagan philosophy if you will, and seemingly a 'contradiction' of sorts if aligned with the thought of a merciful, loving and Almighty Creator, as we know his reputation to be from the Holy Scriptures.

What do you think about this Blog Post, in what it has to say about Hell, Hellfire, that place of eternal torment noone wishes to end up in?
Many misinterpretation over the centuries regards the 'substance' of Hell, has done its damage. The 'HELL' dogma is tightly interwoven also with the doctrine of the 'SOUL' dogma. But what does the Bible really have to say about it?

The concept of 'Hell' and the 'Soul' amalgamate and subtly come together - when we attain to a clearer understanding of what both consist of and really represent. A large proportion of misinterpretation and mistranslation of the Hebrew and Greek tongues in bygone centuries, by translators either unwittingly or purposely simply to fit their own ends and agendas, has been the cause for so much controversy and confusion. In the sensitive areas of Christian belief systems. The division it has generated amongst believers from all walks of like in the history of true Christianity since its infancy has become cause for much hatred and persecution amongst humans.

What Hell means to me -- a place where all people will go that
do not believe in JEsus as their Lord and Saviour.
It is a place of eternal separation from God... and where you will experience the full wrath from God ...

    Hi Bethelight

Yes, you are right! And the full wrath of God will account to the worst thing that can befall mortal man. And that is - that he loses his prospect to life eternal and the hope of a resurrection. What could be worse than that? No longer to exist and become as dust. Lose ones's future prospects of life eternal...after this life.

    Best wishes

I keep thinking about the year 1944. A number of jewish women and children are being escourted to the gas chamber in Auschwitz by a christian German camp guard. According to you folks, because the women and children did not accept Jesus Christ as their savior and son of god, they will burn in hell for eternity. However, the german guard, being the good christian that he is, need only ask forgiveness for his sins and he shall dwell in the house of the lord, heaven, forever.

Good thing that such isn't the reality of Scripture.

Nice way to put but as christian they already have the head in the sand thing going on so they will not need to think about this.

Lucky the idea of Hell was around long before the whole christian thing. Just another part of one big scam it is a good way to scare little kids in to beliving you and doing what you want them to, which as a priest means asking them to undress.

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? 18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. 19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet. 20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. 21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities

Leviticus 17:7 And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring.
Deuteronomy 32:17 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not
2 Chronicles 11:15 And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.
Psalms 106:37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, 38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. 39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.

demons were refered to as devils in Old Testament, also gods was reference to demons(fallen angels)

1 Chronicles 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.
Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. 7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? 9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? 10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. 11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. 12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
Job 2:1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD. 2 And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 3 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. 4 And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. 5 But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. 6 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life. 7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. 8

Psalms 109:6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
    Zechariah 3:1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. 2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan;

Re: HELL - A Place Of Fire and Eternal Torment?

According to Christianity eternal suffering awaits anyone who questions God's infinite love. That's the message we're brought up with, believe or die. "Thank you, forgiving Lord, for all those options."
    - Bill Hicks, Rant in E-minor, CD

As a tot I was given the usual terrifying mixed message: a) God is love; and b) If you don't believe how much he loves you, you will stand in the corner for eternity.
    - James Lileks, "God Has Call Waiting," Notes of a Nervous Man

When all has been considered, it seems to me to be the irresistible intuition that infinite punishment for finite sin would be unjust, and therefore wrong. We feel that even weak and erring Man would shrink from such an act. And we cannot conceive of God as acting on a lower standard of right and wrong.
    - Lewis Carroll (author of Alice in Wonderland), "Eternal Punishment," Diversions and Digressions of Lewis Carroll
