So you arrive at your hotel only to be told that it's overbooked, and the room you reserved is no longer available. As compensation, you are offered accommodation at another property that the hotel may or may not claim is comparable in quality. The only trouble is, it’s not! In industry parlance, this means you have officially been "walked down."

The reason for hotels doing this is simple: MONEY! The hotel need only cover the cost of your new, lesser room. By sending you to a lesser property, they pocket the difference.

IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU!

Whatever you do, do NOT immediately agree to the alternative accommodation. Stand firm and remind the hotel that you have a guaranteed reservation. If you still have to move, you will likely be sent to a better property. In any case, raise High Holy HELL about it with the management (NOT the poor desk lackey who has no power over what transpires).
