That's right, you read correctly! Select bishops from around the world are currently in the midst of a month-long gathering in Rome with the express purpose of finding new ways to reach out to one of the fastest growing segments of the religious landscape... people who USED to be Catholics, but gave it up!

The Vatican is now facing up to the stark reality that, in the industrialized First World nations, there are tens of millions of Catholics who have "lapsed", either by joining other religious groups or by adopting agnostics and/or atheists!

So, what to do about this "problem"? Pope Benedict is calling for nothing less than a "new evangelization" among those wayward souls who've left the flock!

How do you think THAT'S gonna work out in the long term?
