Power of Attorney Responsibilities USA vs Canada

Okay, so a friend in a precarious situation. His health is poor, both physically and mentally, and though his family is wealthy, he depends on his folks giving him money month-to-month for an income.

Now his folks are getting old, but they refuse to discuss making arrangements for him in the eventuality that they will pass away. He's worried he won't be able to handle the legal aspect if (or rather when) this happens, and he wants to give ME power of attorney.

Should I do this for him? Is it going to be a huge drain on my time and energy (not to mention money)? Are there any possible upsides to being in this situation?

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm in Canada, by the way.
