    Ant Attack?

Ants the size of cats are swarming into our town, attacking people.

Reads like a line from a 50's movie from the US! :D

However, if you trust the scientific view, then is it so impossible?

If evolution can, albeit, over huge spans of time, alter a chimp into a man, or if the anscestors of dinosaurs are now dinky little birdies and lizards, then is it really science fiction to suggest that over a period, ants, for example, could grow in size, and become the dominant species on earth?

Science deals in what is or was. Not what hypothetically is possible in the future since all is possible.

Well, that is not strictly true Bogie, since all realities or theories, not this one esp, must surely first of all begin with an idea, surely?

Nope. A theory, as recognized by the scientific community, must undergo very extensive scrutiny by scientific methods before the theory will be even considered as a theory. When speaking of science, the word theory is much more than a mere idea. It may work with creationists but not scientists. And a reality is nothing but a proven theory.

    From the American Heritage dictionary.

    theory:

A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.

Bogie, Darwinism is accepted by many to be a science, at least it is taught as such.

This is partly meant as a fun thread, sort of.

I am not going to get into semantics with ya matey.

Good then don't get into semantics. Darwinism is a theory, widely accepted in science with a great deal of evidence to support it, but still only a theory. This is not a question of semantics; which scientist accepts darwanism or evolution if you wish, as a science?

    Yes.

And science accepts that modern birds, even the small one's, came from Dino's!

All I am asking is, you know what, forget it...

I seem to recall that, beyond a certain size, animals require a skeletal structure to support their weight. That is, the structure of insects limits their size - not sure what that size limitation is.

You know what, I think I read that too.

In the same book, it said that if people were the size of a bird, we would have to spend something like 80% of our time eating!

    Cue joke..... :D
"Ethics" is simply a last-gasp attempt by deist conservatives and
orthodox dogmatics to keep humanity in ignorance and obscurantism,
through the well tried fermentation of fear, the fear of science and
    new technologies.
There is nothing glorious about what our ancestors call history,
it is simply a succession of mistakes, intolerances and violations.
