As in DIVERSION! Give the stiffs something MORE PERSONAL
to worry about than what we're doing in Washington!
I give you credit for the intelligence to get the point, aside from the food
fiasco. Am I wrong? Perhaps! Oh well...

    Re: SPinach Will Kill You.

I have been watching this spinach drama since it was first reported. It appears to me that the truth is being deliberately obscured by a lot of mumbled speculation. Now it seems to have been hushed up completely. Whether it is the food handlers or not, I don't know. Why? They're not telling the truth! If it is the food pickers and handlers at fault, then the reason is obvious: the mass paranoia that the truth will "upset" or "offend" someone which will in turn threaten precious government jobs. Well, what about those of us that are offended by your obfuscation? People have a right to the truth when it comes to dangers to their health, and if that offends someone...tough!

I agree that there are several sources of e-coli possible, if they don't know which it is, just say so, but announce that oh, by the way, there will be some new hygienic standards for the pickers and handlers. What would be the harm in that? Maybe racist or something. What ever happened to the America that stood up for it's citizens instead of pandering to the sensitivities of the few?

I'm kind of sorry I made light of your thread at first, coontie. I have seen how much my country has changed for the worse in my short half-century alone, and I am getting so sick and frustrated that it's just getting harder and harder to laugh it off.

    But I still try sometimes.

I think in a few words you have summed up the situation admirably.
I have to say, considerating the "spurrious" occurences, or at least
as they seem to develope and be related, are suspicious and it is
really questionable that we are being told truthfully what is at the root
    of any such the situation.
There is nothing racist that can be invoked when it comes to protecting the
public at large. Anyone suggesting such is just seeking to focus attention
in another area that has nothing to do with the real problem and is very
possibly doing so as an intentional diversion to cover up some very
    serious problem.
For instance: ever since the Bob Woodward book was published specifically
focusing the public's attention more to the affairs, behavior of politicans in
Washington, we have had the Spinach story, the Mark Foley situation and
the North Korean Nuclear threat situation - the nation has been bombarded
with these other suddenly erupting events. I remind those that don't
remember, or make the connection, that Bob Woodward was one of the
then intern reporters that broke the Watergate story. So it would seem
that it is important to pay attention to what this man mentions in his
book as he is a credible source of reporting important developing or
existing issues that are critical to our nation's survival and good govern-
ment, but which somehow, previous to his reporting same have been
sucessfully concealed from the public; we the people, who according to
our constitution are SUPPOSED to be the government.
In the meantime, what about coming to terms with the issues mentioned
in Woodward's book. A discussion was begun to address these circumstances
but nothing was ever developed where those individuals could or would
be confronted, called out to answer and let the public hear their [the
Presidential Cabinet members, advisors, etc.] version
of matters and their position, explanation to the public of what is going on.
In that regard, there is silence.
Question, regarding our "News Media" sources; papers, radio, television,
magazines: who is it that, so to speak, pulls the levers, twist the knobs,
that is activates these media sources to what will be the next item
they will serve up to the public and 'spin-up' to the max? What agenda,
desire for diversion away from more important issues is at the bottom of
the entire situation? WHO is responsible for this and why are they doing so.
That gets to the crux of the matter!

New Media, news schmedia. It's the ratings and selling the ad space. Got to get people to watch the idiot box so to sell time to advertisers. SO E Coli one week, two headed puppies the next, and so on.

Wash all produce, why expect anyone else to look out for me?

    Frankly the stuff is inedible.

Personally, I can tolerate raw Spinach in a salad, but I prefer it cooked with a bit of Apple Cider Vinegar with it.

Then I guess someone should tell Popeye!
"The mind bends and twists in order to deal with the horrors of life...
...sometimes the mind bends so much it snaps in two".

Oh well.. obviously, otherwise, good word-speak for the citizens and continued mushroom farming practices, wherein we are kept in the dark [intentionally] and continued to be supplied with an ample serving of horse-shit!

Everything gives you cancer. (Joe Jackson song) Seriously, Popeye the sailer man had no problem and none of his many followers. Back in those days, the same type people didn't wash their hands either.
I'm inclined to believe, with so much reasearch we discover things and have a better ablity to report them. I thinkd the same illnesses where always here, for years with out us being able to talk about them. The FDA still says cow's milk is good. It's like the blind leading the blind.:
