earmarks are just itemized spending lists. you would prefer that congress just say, here's a $billion and we don't care how you spend it?

What we should all understand is that all these politicians decrying spending turn around and then swim in it. Your spending isn't going anywhere and it isn't linked to one party versus another, but I know you're heavily invested in the mythology.

Spending is spending bub, pure and simple.

Re: Feeding at the trough: 111th Congress Earmarks

some of it is called "creating jobs", some others called, "rehabilitating blighted areas", a lot of it is matching funds for state, city or private funds for good purposes.

we need to be against abuse of earmarks, not against earmarks.

all of it together is very small part of budget. winning the election means you get to decide how the money is spent.

if the elected person does it wrong, gets kicked out in next election, see obama, november.

Make a decision, it's either the government's role to create jobs - or it isn't.

What the list shows is that elections have no bearing on spending/earmarks. Were you to undertake paying attention to reality rather than partisanshyte propaganda that may begin to dawn on you.

Sure mac, vote out Obama and reckless spending will vanish.

    Go with that. Stupidass.

Re: Feeding at the trough: 111th Congress Earmarks

you didn't read the earmarks - i did for my local congressman and found nothing wrong. spending was small, and went to worthy causes. there's no boston big dig here.

(that was kennedy and other democrats)

The Big Dig was the most expensive highway project in the U.S. and was plagued by escalating costs, scheduling overruns, leaks, design flaws, charges of poor execution and use of substandard materials, criminal arrests,[2][3] and even four deaths.[4] The project was scheduled to be completed in 1998[5] at an estimated cost of $2.8 billion (in 1982 dollars, US$6.0 billion adjusted for inflation as of 2006).[6] The project was not completed, however, until December 2007, at a cost of over $14.6 billion ($8.08 billion in 1982 dollars)[6]as of 2006.[7] The Boston Globe estimated that the project will ultimately cost $22 billion, including interest, and that it will not be paid off until 2038.[8] As a result of the deaths, leaks, and other design flaws, the consortium that oversaw the project agreed to pay $407 million in restitution, and several smaller companies agreed to pay a combined sum of approximately $51 million.[9]
read the earmark list - if your congressman is crooked, campaign for somebody else. all of them have to beg for their job again, every two years. the people have the power.

there is going to be money spent - so you think they should just rain dollars out of a helicopter over needy areas?

that's not how it's done. the congressman designates how the money gets divided.

    That's the problem right there.

It's always the other guy's govt spending that should be stopped, mine's ok.

Thanks for stepping up to demonstrate the bogus aspect of the supposed argument against govt spending.
    Yeah, but hey, we're white!
