I'm scared Now due to an email... look below

I sold my camera on *****slist and this Pamela answered. I sent the paypal email to her so she could depoist the money into my account but then she said that it was being held until I gave them the tracking number.

Well I started getting supsision and i call Paypal to see if they do that. They told me it was a scam.

I then emailed her back and told her I won't send nothing because she was a scam.

Then I got this email from a "Paypal" -

    -Dear Customer,
Since the buyer have made the payment, there is no way we can cancel it. It has been deducted from the buyer's account, and is ready to be credited into your account.Your money is secure here with us, you should get back to us with the shipment tracking number of the package, so that we will be able to verify the transaction and have your account credited right away. But if you refuse to comply with our rules and regulation,we will have to sue you, remember we have your details, but we believe you are a good citizen.

    Best Regards

    PayPal Customer Care

Can they sue me?? I'm scared to death right now cause I don't want to be sued.

I'm scared!! Please tell me if I'm in trouble or not!!

Forward that threatening email, with full headers, to both [email protected] and [email protected]

That email did not come from Paypal. Just look at the wording and poor grammer. What you have appears to be a Nigerian or Romanian con man trying to scare you into cooperating with being robbed.

he's trying to steal your stuff.

    don't send your stuff.

you can't do anything about him because he is anonymous, in an internet cafe, in nigeria. you don't know his real name. if you did know his real name, nobody would travel to nigeria to get him.

he can't sue you and the messages are coming from the scammer, not paypal.

Re: I'm scared Now due to an email... look below

    100% scam, as mumbles said.

    There is no buyer.

Notice how the scammer doesn't call what you are selling by name? He uses the generic word "item", that is because he sends the same stock copy/paste email to anyone selling everything that he can find and he has no idea what you are selling and doesn't care.

There is only a scammer trying to steal your possession, your electronic item, clothing or jewelry.

The scammer isn't interested in your identity or bank account only in convincing you to ship your possession to him without him sending you a penny.

The next email will be from another of the scammer's fake names and free email addresses pretending to be "Paypal" saying "kindly send the tracking number and we will release the funds".

Paypal does NOT send such emails, ever. Paypal does NOT have escrow or money holding services like that scammer describes. Paypal does NOT demand you send a tracking number before money is sent. EVER. No exceptions.

Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his 'potential sucker' list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of being the perfect buyer, great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.

Do you know how to check the header of a received email? If not, you could google for information. Being able to read the header to determine the geographic location an email originated from will help you weed out the most obvious scams and scammers. Then delete and block that scammer. Don't bother to tell him that you know he is a scammer, it isn't worth your effort. He has one job in life, convincing victims to send him their hard-earned cash.

Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.

If you google "yahoo buyer's protection program scam", "fake paypal email scam", "ebay escrow fraud" or something similar you will find hundreds of posts from victims and near victims of this type of scam.

Check out the one and only official paypal website, read up on what paypal does and how it really works.

Sorry but there are not any multi-country law enforcement agencies working on tracking down anonymous internet scammers. That being said, there is something you can do.

Making a scammer's scam googlable on every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find is a great way to slow that scammer down when a suspicious potential victim goes looking for information, finds your post containing the name the scammer is using, his email address, phone number and the emails themselves and then that potential victim does not become a scam victim because you took the time "get the word out".

Now all you have to do is: nothing. Don't bother to reply to her emails that will become increasingly nasty, rude and threatening. She will send more and more fake Paypal demanding that you send the phone, ignore those as well. Just quietly disappear from that scammer's notice.

Ashwinte, do not even think about them let alone being afraid of getting sued, they just want to scare you into getting your item and money..THEY CANNOT EVEN PLUCK A HAIR...they just want to rob you..just ignore them and keep their email in block list in your account..I have just been scammed from Nigeria on iphone worth 200..I shipped it :(

you know what they scared me?..they said THEY WILL SEND FBI TO MY HOUSE AND GET ME ARRESTED FOR TRYING TO STOP SHIPMENT AND RIPPING THEIR MONEY OFF!!...lol...I replied..."BEST OF LUCK WITH THAT" and blocked their email ID's permanently in my account.

so, you are as safe as you can be!! :)

That sounds strange. That message from PayPal does not sound like one of integrity. Are you sure you got the message from PayPal themselves. It could be an imposter.

Paypal would reply by DEAR "your real name", not "dear customer"

from this we can prove that the email DEAR CUSTOMER may be pretending to be paypal sending you.
