    Your Boss Wants You Dead

    Dead Peasant Policies

Life insurance policies which pay out to an employer in the event of an employee’s death.

"Dead peasant” insurance policies (also known as “janitors” policies).

This is when a company buys a life insurance policy on a rank-and-file, low-level employee – usually without the employee’s knowledge – and claims the company as the beneficiary should the employee die.

The company retains the policy even after the employee leaves, and if the employee dies, the company receives a large, tax-free payout, which they then refuse to share with the family of the deceased.

This is something more and more people need to become aware of when it may concern them and the company they work for.

Interesting. I've never heard of this.

How does a person know if he or she is covered ** a policy?

It is often difficult for a person to learn whether he or she was covered ** a “Dead Peasant” policy. These insurance programs became popular during the mid-1980s and have been an available investment opportunity for large companies since that time. Prior to 2006, however, there was no federal law that required employers to disclose the policies to insured employees. Any disclosure requirements that existed before 2006 were only through state laws, which were ignored in many instances. So, the only way a person could learn about the policies was through the employer’s voluntary disclosure.

Which employers bought policies on the lives of employees?

Because a company’s purchase of insurance policies is not a public record, it is virtually impossible to know every company that invested in policies on employees’ lives. The following companies, however, are believed to have been named as the beneficiary of life insurance policies on …more »

    This is highly disturbing.....

I vaguely remember hearing about this awhile back on the news but never fully understood what it was all about.

Thank goodness for the public outrage and a potential national boycot against walmart that walmart finally returned the money to Ms. Shanks.

However, dan made a good point " Is walmart really this petty that they have to sue for $460,000 when there quarterly earnings are roughly $9 billion?"

As hard as it is to survive in this economy. I have always tried to avoid shopping there. It's getting harder and harder as the economy becomes more sluggish. But I have to try to stick to my morals nd ethics.

    Thanks for sharing knight-mare.
