    Home Warranty Scam

We registered a claim on June 13 for repair to our garage door opener. We received a claim number and were told a contractor would call the next day which did happen. The contractor called the day of the scheduled work and advised that due to the lack of payment for services previously provided to Mutual Warranty, they could no longer do the work under warranty. This contractor indicated that he believed this company is in financial trouble and is going out of business.

After many attempts to contact Mutual (getting stuck in endless automated recording loops, being cut off and having to wait on hold for up to 2-1/2 hours) we finally got through (to the sales department) on June 22. The first person I talked to said that we should choose our own contractor and submit the bill and, during the same conversation, said that the estimate would have to be approved by Mutual (with the problems of contacting the company!), thereby requiring the contractor to make two visits (unacceptable to most contractors). The person who gave us this advice is Velma Brown. We advised this was unacceptable and not within the terms of our contract with Mutual. We then were forwarded to Lic Robless (described as the head of the contractors department, she then assured us that it would be resolved and a contractor would be dispatched the following day. We have received no response; not from a contractor nor from Mutual since that date. We have tried to contact the company by phone, e-mail and their internet chat line since that date and have not been able to reach anyone.

Tonight (June 28), I have been on the phone trying to get through since 6:00 PM. I was also in the endless loop but then tried the sales team prompt (Option1 ) and "SURPRISE SURPRISE"...they answered the phone.

When I reached Ana Quinones on the sales desk, I explained the problem. She told me the claims group was closed. I said it is a 24 hour service and that they must be open. Again, SURPRISE SURPRISE, I was forwarded to claims. Guess who I talked to..."Velma Brown"....the same person who assured me they would get a contractor and call right back on June 22. She used the phone excuse (problems with a new office opening and problems with their phone system) as the reason we could not reach them. That certainly does not explain the fact that they never returned the call they promised back on the 22nd.

I am now on hold waiting for Velma Brown to call contractors to come to the house (it is 9:50 PM). She advised me on the phone that the status of our service request on the computer is "awaiting contractor requisition" and the service is deemed to be an "emergency" after our telephone conversation with them on June 22. Apparenly some guy named Carl Maschtowski is responsible for getting contractors but has not done that, for some reason.

Velma Brown says she was new to the company last week and that her predecessor was terminated due to poor performance. She fails to clarify why she has not completed the task she promised last week. The name of the customer service manager is Devon Johnston and he is not available.

I guess anyone out there should understand that service is terrible at this company.... SCAM????

I purchased Mutual's signature product on Friday. The charge appeared on my card Saturday. I called for service Tuesday, and their phones are all disconnected. The web site is down as well. What a scam! Spread the word because the news should be reporting this.

    Re: Home Warranty Scam

My name is Nicolle, I’m an ex employee from Mutual Warranty. We were all obligate to say that the company was really in the United States specifically in Denver CO but it was all a big lie. A part of it was functioning in Panama City, Panama (Central America). We were told that the offices were still opened either the one located in Denver and the other one in Canada. Because of all you guys and all of the comments that we heard everyday we started to make our own research and investigations in the internet. Once you put the link: search.yahoo.ca you will find info regarding the president of Mutual Warranty: Devon Johnston or Vadim Verveda which by the way is his real name as far as we know, we also know that he goes under the name of Alexie Verveda or Vad Johnston, that he has 3 different types of passports he has an American, Canadian and Panamanian passports. This guy is a total CROOK he needs to be stop ASAP.

On Monday, Sept. 4 all of Mutual Warranty employees went to work like a normal work day but we notice that some of the phones in our desks were missing, as soon as we found out that almost all of the laptops, phones and other office equipments were taken we decided to call the police. Vadim came around 1:00 A.M along with his wife Carola Adler, and the vice president of the company here in Panama Olmedo Zagia as well with his wife, they took the equipment and they manage to take it to Vadim´s house. (We know this info due to the cameras inside the building) We started to call everyone we knew including the police, they capture both of them (Vadim and Olmedo) in jail.
We are fighting for our rights as employees including all of the managers, we were offer promises that we never saw, money was being taken out of our pay checks without going where it was supposed to go. The only thing that we received from them it’s a bunch of UNPAID STUFF.
If they manage to get out from jail we know and we can assure you that he and his wife will try to leave Panama and go where ever he wants to and open a NEW CALL CENTER.

WE WERE BETRAYED AS WELL AS YOU GUYS. We tried our best to fight and get all of you paid that includes Contractor’s and customers. We don’t want him to leave this country and go somewhere else and keep on scamming people. It’s your money and you have the right to know.
Our local news are aware of the situation, we are also aware that he is wanted by the Oak Bay Police dept. for a huge scam on E-bay and we are pretty sure that the FBI and Interpol wants to capture this guy.

PLEASE DON´T LET HIM KEEP ON DOING THE SAME THING, WE HAVE TO STOP HIM.

Call your attorneys, the BBB, the district attorney, the local news.
I want you and all of Mutual Warranty Contractor’s & Customers to know that we stand beside you and support any type of legal action or anything to stop this guy. We will help you if you can help us by contacting again your personal attorneys, the BBB, the district attorney & the local news!!

Don’t try reaching us at our phones (1-866-652-3172) plus our ext. neither email or live chat we are no longer working at the site and we are no longer operating.
If you have any questions or any type of news please let us know.

    P.S: spread the word….

As a followup to this saga, we also had a claim for our A/C. Long story made short, after a great deal of time getting the problem resolved and living in a 100 degree house for a week, the check that was sent to pay for the repairs bounced...$750!

    See you in court!

I think those scammed by Mutual Warranty (received nothing) should ban together for a class action suit. If we have enough people maybe we can go via Jacoby And Meyers or some such class action suit company

Mutual Warranty Company Apparently Skips Out Of Town

    POSTED: 4:22 pm MDT August 2, 2006
    UPDATED: 4:34 pm MDT August 2, 2006
DENVER -- For some people, a guarantee or warranty on their purchase is like a security blanket. It provides coverage to fix or replace it something goes wrong. But what happens when the warranty company skips out and leaves town?

The company in point is Mutual Warranty Company of Denver. The company may not have just left town, it may have left the country, said Call 7 for Help Consumer Champ Bill Clarke.

"I gave them $500 and when my air conditioner broke, they said the check was in the mail. Weeks later neither I nor the contractor has seen a dime," said Paul Cook, from Wichita Fallas, Texas.

Mutual Warranty lists a Denver business address but the state shows no such company by that name. The address on the 16th Street Mall doesn't list the company in its directory and the Better Business Bureau has a long list of complaints just in the last few months.

The BBB suspects Mutual Warranty is actually based in Panama.

Clarke called Mutual Warranty using its toll-free number and what it said should make anyone suspicious.

A salesman on the line couldn't say anything about the Denver location, refused to explain why there's no listing in the building directory at the 16th Street Mall for Mutual Warranty, and then said any more questions would have to go to company executives. He also refused to give a phone number for follow-up questions and said our best bet was by e-mail. It's been a week and Clarke has heard nothing.

    Re: Home Warranty Scam

does anyone have any advice about how to get the money back that was stolen by mutual warranty or is it just a total loss. i have complained to the FBI, BBB, Consumer Affairs and all other similar sites. i was told by my bank that a charge can not be reversed after 30 days, but is there a catch when money is taken in a scam.

    Re: Home Warranty Scam

Home Warranty of America (HWA) is also not in business to serve clients. Their interest is to collect the premium and any claims for appliances repair are just more expense for them.

We had two requests for repairs with HWA - of an AC and of a microwave. In both cases HWA sent subcontractors who are not adequately equipped to handle the customer's volume or variety of equipment. Subcontractors work the governmental hours of 8 to 5 as if this is still the 50s and there are stay at home mom to accommodate their schedule. No flexibility in scheduling.

In both cases spare parts had to be ordered and wait for 2-3 weeks to "locate" the part. During our microwave repair the subcontractor argued in front of us with the HWA rep how much that particular part will cost. The price range of the argument was between $17.50 and $185!?!

Also, once the parts were located we had to wait another few weeks for the subcontractors to have available time to come and finish the repair. Since in both case two different subcontractors had the same issues handling the customer’s volume, it is indicative that HWA have bigger problems and have not made any effort to higher quality subcontractors. Not to mention that throughout the time of the claims the HWA representative are useless.

We have the HWA warranty from the previous owner of the house. It is to expire in February and we already got an offer from HWA to renew the warranty with an increased premium. Almost double! For $500+ that they want for a year of premium and considering the value of my time wasted I am much better of putting those money in a savings account for emergency repairs.
