I got Lasik surgery back in 2002 from the Lasik Vision Institute in Kansas City....

Still have 20x20 vision now, and it only cost around $1,700.00.

As far as safety....well, one slip and it could all be over....but they have waiver forms for that. lol

I'm sure your friend will be very pleased with the results if they decide to do it.

In the U.S., yes? It's when you go to a third world country, in an effort to save money, is where you should be careful.

I joined this site just so I could post on this.
I'm in Canada and had lasik in June 2010. I was legally blind in my left eye and had 20/80 in my right.

Okay, granted, I had to pay $3000 for the surgery, but I also had bad astigmatism, but it was the best decision I ever made. I was able to read license plates as cars drove by after 10 minutes. I now have 20/13 vision :)

I didn't make this decision lightly however. I spent about 2 years researching the techniques and the companies offering it until I found one that I felt I could handle. I asked a lot of hard questions at the consultation and got satisfactory answers.

All I can really say is that if your friend does their research and truly feels comfortable with the place and the staff, then go for it.

i have 20/400 vision in each eye. i want lasik eye surgery but i was told that i would still loose vision each year after the surgery. i have myopia and astigmatism.

if it will solve your problems with vision forever, do it. if not, then, what's the point?

Day after surgery, my vision was perfect and it was great contacts too late, finally! But as my eyes keep returning to its original shape my vision has decreased. Now I am new to contacts, and can not be corrected in the same visual quality as before, when I was a scene.

I had LASIK about 3 years ago and I absolutely loved it. I had very thick glasses, and wearing contacts was just hard for me, I have small Asian eyes. This was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I've posted in this thread before and figured I'd post a follow up.

I am now at a point where I do need glasses again. Mostly just for reading, but my eyesight is slowly going again...

NO WHERE NEAR the coke bottle glasses I USED to have, though.

I personally had Lasik 2 years ago and yes it REALLY DOES WORK! If you have the money I would definitely recommend you have it done. You'll be patched up for a few days but after that you will never need your glasses again. It changed my life!

    You speak too soon.

Give it another 2 or 3 years. You'll find your vision has gone a bit.....but there are always "touch-ups" available.

Ive had it done, problem? I had RK done at about 24 years old this is a procedure where the doctor takes photo's of your eyes and determined the depth and then takes a device and cuts your cornea to allow focus by flattening the front of your eye, 20/20 vision. At 40 I was wearing reading glasses and couldnt see close or far well. could'nt get a prescript cause all ordinary tests didnt work anymore.I found a dr that said he could fix my eyes "there is always risks" but I wanted to see well again. so he did Lasik on both eyes. He did a procedure called Mono vision one eye does far one near and the brain works out the issues. I can see well again. procedure is painless. its as safe as any surgery can be
