    Math crankery

Just curious: why hasn't anyone started a thread on mathematical cranks? (by which I mean their failed proofs, not the person, although feel free to make fun of the person, too, but not all failed mathematical proofs come from "lunatics")

Probably because it's too difficult to understand them. I'm doing my PhD in theoretical physics, but I still struggle to understand what it is most modern mathematicians are doing, let alone follow their proofs.

If someone could dumb it down so the rest of us can understand what they were trying to prove (and why we should care), how they were trying to prove it, and what part of the proof failed then it might get some more attention.

Maybe this is the reason they make peanuts for advancing the human knowledge database while someone playing with a ball makes billions?

Most people in the working class like football or basketball.
Most people in management like baseball or tennis.
    Most executives like golf.

Which just goes to show you that the higher up the corporate ladder you climb the smaller your balls become.
