    Is this a legit work from home job?

    I found a ad on *****slist, for a "General Office Clerk". I rec'vd this email yesterday:

    Your resume has been reviewed by the appropriate department from (*****SLIST) and found suitable for our home based Data Entry.A briefing and interview has been scheduled for you online. Download and setup yahoo messenger on your PC from; http://messenger.yahoo.com. Register for a yahoo messenger ID and instant message (IM) Mrs.Maria Bagley (Old-computers.com).at this ID"[email protected]" for the briefing and interview as soon as you receive this message

    • Responsible for Order Entry and Control of information related to job files and internal systems up to invoicing.
    • Organize orders received either through inside sales or direct from customers to ensure all requirements are met for order entry (set by Management). Issue purchase orders and order forms to vendors & factories. Prepare returns for those that do not meet requirements to respective sales team.. Enter information into Business Finance System (BAS). Assist sales with managing SAF accuracy after the Blue Sky entry has generated an order. Work closely with management as requested to ensure accuracy in forecasted numbers.

    • Work with Customer and/or Inside Sales reps to ensure all specifications related to the order (equipment, delivery requirements, etc) are correct and delivered to required vendors in order to achieve customer satisfaction.

    • Manage order files from time of order creation to the hand off to Finance for invoicing. Ensure that figures and quantities in business systems match (BAS, BSS (purchasing) and SAF).

    • Work with all departments to ensure documentation is kept complete and current on changes to orders during the time order is placed until shipped. Assist the Finance team with the resolution of discrepancies found after handoff.

    • Track jobs through lifecycle of project using various software to provide reporting on individual activity as well as customer related activity.

    • Review and make suggestions to improve processes, further develop order processing steps throughout the different sub branches. Highlight issues of concern and raise them with suggestions on how they can be improved.

    • Assist sales team and customers resolving issues related to extra costs, additional add-ons to projects, credits, etc. through set procedures (PO requests, Credit Note steps, etc)

    sorry. it's not a job. you won't be paid. the check he will send you is fake. you will have instructions to cash the check at your bank then forward the money by western union. your bank will eventually get the check back and demand that you make it good. the check may be large enough for the police to come get you.

    you have been tricked. stop.

    I agree with mumbers, 100% fake job.

    All mumbo jumbo gibberish that you were sent is just to make you think you have a real job. All those links and 'tasks' area set up to cash a fake check for your 'supplies' for the next task.

    One red flag is the 'webiste is under construction', the truth is either the scammer didn't bother to set on up or it was taken down by the host company as being fake.

    Delete the emails and ignore the scammer, he will go away when you stop communicating with him.

    I kinda thought it was a scam...you know, too good to be true.

    The website is real though if you go to it. However, it doesn't fit what they are describing as "the job".

    A big flag was when I asked what product they were selling and the person got a little rude. Was very evasive on any questions I asked.

    Could you repost the legit-looking website address, would like to take a closer look at it when have more time.

    It may be a legit website, scammers love to pretend to work for real companies and will include links to the company's real website in order to make their 'job offer' appear legit.

    You are correct, both the rudeness and evasiveness are both HUGE red flags. As is this sentence:

    Funds will be provided by the Company asap to get these equipments
    That is where the fake check comes in. Somewhere in that email would have been the "Western Union or moneygram the excess money to the shipper or supplier".

    The website looks legit, the scammer probably just decided to use it and the owners of that site have no idea their company identity has been stolen.

    You could forward your emails to that company and give them a heads up that their corporate identity has been stolen. Irate victims will come looking for them, not realizing that website had nothing to do with the scam. That site should put a warning on its home page letting people know that they are not hiring and are a victim as well.

    When you received the check, the scammer would have said something like "included in the check are the funds for the shipping company, kindly Western Union the funds to the local vender". The words 'local vendor' just mean the scammer using another fake name and email address. Or there would have been some printing 'error' and someone somewhere sent you a check for several thousand instead of the few hundred you were suppose to get. The scammer then says "kindly Western Union the 'excess' back to me".

    Yes, you did receive a elaborate email and wind up for the 'cash the fake check' job. Not unheard of, some scammers have, unfortunately, gotten very adept at what they do.

    Any company that mentions you opening a bank account, purchasing computer equipement, cashing, printing or mailing checks or uses the words Western Union, moneygram or bank transfer is a scam.

    Well, I stopped all correspondences with the scammer on Wednesday. Today, I get a fedex envelope and guess what's in? A cashier's check for $2,850.00. No letter, no paperwork at all, just the cashier's check.
    I called the bank (by finding their info on the internet) and they take the info, put me on hold, then transfer me to the security/fraud rep. Sure as sh*t, the check is fraudulent!! Big surprise right!! LOL
    The bank asked if I wouldn't mind sending them the check, the fedex slip, and any other correspondences that I have. I'll put it all together and send it out to them today!!
    But wait! There's more! Then the scammer sends me a text and wants to know why I'm not on line. I tell them about the fraudulent check I received from them today and this woman is saying, just deposit it in you bank account and I will email you further instructions. I asked her if she was crazy. Why would I deposit a check that was just confirmed to be fraudulent? She sent me a text back....get ready for it.....calling me a THIEF!!! Too funny!!:cwm2:

    I'm one of the webmasters of old-computers.com. We've just found out that someone used our website name to obviously commit fraud.

    This is a scam. We *never* posted this ad. We don't know who Ms Maria Bagley is. We don't have any hire dept (and by the way, we are not a company, just a bunch of guys who like old computers).

    We just added a message on the homepage to warn people.

    This person stole our identity to commit fraud and we will bring a legal action against her.

    ok so im on the same boat as everyone else I started this on Thursday and my guy name was Tom. He asked me to set up email account with yahoo messeneger so that we can have an brief interview. So I did he sent some questions to my email I answered them and then he stated he was impressed and that I was hired. I was thinking in my head that was quick...So I started my first assisgnment on Friday May 7, 2010 sent it to Tom and was off for the weekend I came back today Monday May10,2010 for my next assignment @ 9am. Tom came on messenger keeping casual conversation like how was your weekend etc. then he sent second assignment and as im doing the assisgnment I keyed in one of the sentence from the assignment because I needed som help and I came across this website.     6. I went to the old-computers website and used one of their contact e-mails to see if they hire people for work-at-home kinds of things.

    7. This smelled like one of those "sounds too good to be true things."

    8. Plan to send nasty reply message once I hear back from old-computers website contact.

    You could do that or you could simply ignore the scammer. Let him wonder what went wrong.

    I know it is great to 'tell a scammer off' but then he knows that you figured it out and he knows there is a problem with his emails and presentation. If you simply ignore him, never telling him anything, he won't know what tipped you off. That way, other potential victims might figure it out as you have.

    The scammer will spend hours and days wondering what happened and why won't you reply. He will waste cyber cafe time typing personal emails to you and being frustrated when you never reply. He will never know what happened to you and other potential victims and that is a great feeling to give a scammer, frustration and annoyance at not being about to get you to do what he wants. Always leave scammers hanging, wondering, confused and frustrated at losing control.

    Great point! I think I'll take your advice and give them no information to make their presentation better.

    I received an e-mail back from the company old-computers.com letting me know that this job DEFINITELY is a scam. Here's that e-mail:

    Hi James,

    It is 100% scam. We don’t hire anybody.
    Old-computers.com is not a company, it is just a web site done by a bunch of guys who love old computers.
    Someone who claimed working at old comp posted some job offers on *****s list two months ago.
    We put then a warning on the homepage telling that this job offer is not legit.
    They stopped then using our website name … Unfortunately, it seems they’re back.
    Where did you find this job offer?
