    GONZALES: Well, three of my grandparents were born in Mexico. They came to Texas. My parents ó both my parents were born in Texas extremely poor. My motherÖ

    BLITZER: When they came to Texas, were they legally documented, were they un-legally documented?

    GONZALES: You know what? Itís unclear. Itís unclear.

    And Iíve looked at this issue, Iíve talked to my parents about it and itís just not clear.

    But in any event, my mother had a 2nd grade education ó my father had a 2nd grade education, my mother had a 6th grade education. And my father worked construction.

    And so, for me, my life has ó represents the American dream.

    So? Some of my ancesters were definately illegal. Especially the Scot who jumped ship in San Francisco.

    Gee, earlier Gonzales was pretty sure that they were legal. They were reported as legal immigrants in several stories I found. So, why does he waffle on it now? Is he more credible to the hispanic community if his grandparents were illegal?
