    Bad Medicine

The FDA is scamming your health. The FDA cares mores about their wealth, then your health.

Prozak and other antidepressants have been linked to bone loss in older persons, thus contributing to osteoporosis.

The popular osteoporosis drug Fosamax has been linked to jaw bone pain and crumbling of the jaw bone.

Scientist Rosemary Johann-Liang was the deputy director of the FDA's Drug Risk Evaluation Division. As a conscientious employee she recommended among other changes the the diabetes drug Avandia should carry a "Black Box" warning because of the drug's notorious congestive heart failure side effects. When she was reprimanded for doing her job she left the agency, saying, "the FDA lacks any vision of promoting and protecting public health.
"The mind bends and twists in order to deal with the horrors of life...
...sometimes the mind bends so much it snaps in two".

The FDA is simply understaffed and under financed. They can't protect everyone, all the time. The same as a CHP officer can't pull everyone on the freeway over, for speeding. It's just a game they play to give people confidence in the market, but it is simply a facade.

Don't worry about Prozak, The Cancer council in NSW Australia is trying to drum up more business for the cancer research and Doctors. How? Well they have had a very sucessfull campaign for ages "Slip.Slop.Slap" And stay out of the sun "even a light sun tan can cause melanomas and years later you can get cancer. There is no such thing as a healthy sun tan". Well they omit a very important fact. That is that you need at least 10 to 15 minutes sun exposure to create Vitamin D. And some Doctors are concerned that oseoporosis is increasing in not only the elderly but middle aged women. In particular the muslim community where the females wear traditional full body and face cover clothing. Office workers and a lot of people whom are stuck in doors from mornig till afternoon and get home late at night should get their blood tests and do not be surprised if you have a Vitamin D defficiency. Shift workers are at a greater risk. Employers have indemnity clauses for cancer if you choose to wear short sleeve shirts. I am taking Vitamin D suppliments after a blood test revealed a Vitamin D dificiancy. Your chances of getting other health problems increase as well. And if you are lacking Vitamin D your chances of getting Cancer increase. The scare campaign has worked so well it has achieved the reverse to what it was designed to do. Or did it?

The FDA is a well recognized agency of United States. The agency is responsible for protecting and promoting public health by supervising of food safety, pharmaceutical drugs, medical devices, veterinary products and cosmetics. There is a huge responsibility on this agency. However, there are some cases but it doesn't mean that the agency is lacking its vision.

    Re: Bad Medicine

This is to answer regarding the FDA I should not be commenting as I am an outsider from Australia. But, thanks to the Internet and Democracy as in freedom of speech I have done a lot of research over the past 8 to 10 months and found that where in a free world as we like to call it we are not as free as we would like to think. A qoute from a gentleman I spoke with when I was a lot younger "There is no such thing as a complete democracy or complete freedom, it can not exist". Unfortunately we elect our leaders on issues we think are important and hope and pray that they will do the right thing. But as it seems to be the case here and I am sure from what I read that it is the same in USA as well as UK and other free world countries. The party politics often either convert or corrupt the right hearted and correct minded individuals that enter politics. And if they do not bend with the wind the pressure is often so great that only the strongest and cleverest will remain unchanged after entering the political arena. There are realities and one of these is money and the other is power. Many a great men have been destroyed and converted by these and the people that wield them. These days as before corporations have both and the bigger and stronger the corporate body the more influence they have. They hire the brightest and the best they can to work for a common goal and often the bottom line is the profit margin. This is true in all the ism’s. Communism by Government control, Socialism also falls into this but there are a few more flexible allowances given to the population Capitalism is only different in the fact that more control is allowed by the governing bodies to the capitalist as this is a necessary part of the system. But the people also have a right of changing the leaders in elections. How ever my understanding is this. If the elected leaders are only there for the elected term than in reality they can only do what is within their power and what the time of their term allows them to do. As a rule they are not really in control as much as the public servants and the financiers and power brokers are. As these people are there for the long term and often remain there working in the background and either direct or in direct changes.
Here is my point The FDA as well as the other health authorities around the globe are part of the system. And the system including Governments and Presidents are now also a corporate body. They have to get ******* to support the infrastructure, planning, laws, ideology, wages and works. The system is designed to work in a certain way. And intentionally it should be working for the common good for all the citizens. How ever, there are pressure groups and activists that are very good at getting their way through persistence and often they will stop at nothing to get their way. Here in Australia we have had midnight parliament sittings where laws were introduced that we only found out about after the laws were passed. And often these remain unchallenged until someone is effected by them and takes it through the court system. But the system is designed to be costly and the common person is often left with no option but to go along with it. Weather it is just, unjust, right or wrong. Justice wears a blind fold.
Health issues are no exception. And we are often deluded or led by our noses as we do not know better and are not in a capacity to find out or challenge the methods. We have designed a system that allows qualified people whom hae spent years being educated or indoctrinated into thinking in a certain way. And if the individual decides that this is wrong that individual is frowned upon and has to be able to prove that they are right. Often not getting support from his colleagues or his employer. Why? Don't rock the boat, you are sitting pretty here, you have a good job, house, car, family. Why risk it? And what do you care about some one else that you don't know. We are trying to help them but we can't help every one.
There are some very dedicated and conscientious people working in our health system, but at times when things go wrong and the choice of risking everything to expose the problem means having to climb mount everest and risk life and career to do so. How many are brave enough to do this. Besides we are taught to be placid and compliant. So we often go with the flow. This eventually does get the individual or individuals into hot water as when the heat blows over the individuals are often targeted for expulsion and if that does not work set up and removed. Often discredited and the problems are covered over. But where would we be without the brave and the daring that are willing to stand up for what they believe in? The world would still be flat, the earth would still be the centre of the solar system and the known galaxy. And the stars would be pin holes in the fabric of the sky.
I remember the saying That the world is divided by the wealthy and the common, These days it is the wealthy, educated and common or plain to use a non hurt full term. Do not forget history most revolutions were started by the middle class and those that had support from the more powerful. Working to right the wrongs that existed. Presidential parties and Governments are corporate entities. You work and pay taxes. So you are supporting the system but at the sane time you are an essential part of the workings of the system. But if you are not paying taxes you may find you self in strife. Then why is it so hard to believe that any leading party or department, organisation, that is set up to work for the system can be corrupt. They are not designed to work for individuals the structure of the system does not work this way. The common good often l;eaves a lot of the commoners out of it. Why? Well it is the way the system works. So this means that often there are problems and it may take a complete over haul of the way things are done to fix the problem.

As for bad medicines: to answer Morris there are a lot of them and most have side effects. To mention a few. Salazopyrin, used for chrons and ulceritive actually acts like an male pill or mail birth control. It almost makes men sterile by effecting the sperm production. Certain anti inflamitory or steroidal drugs cause heart problems to mention a side effect and also weaken the bones. Doctors know the side effects as do the pharmacists. Tamifoxin good for breast cancer reduction but increases woman’s chances of getting Cancer of the Uterus by as much as 30%. Just about every medicine has side effects. Prolonged use can be harmful. This includes aspirin, Paracetamol and other drugs that are commonly used.
Hey don't trust me I am only an patient that has had problems and had to on occasion change Doctors and specialists to get the truth. These days in our country this is getting to be very hard as the medical profession is a very tight knit group. Rare to find a doctor that will contradict another doctor.
But check out Dr Mercola, HSI, even you tube has doctors and Naturapaths trying to warn us about side effects and cover ups in the medical field.
    Thanks Tom.

And yet, people ignore the warning and self-medicate themselves. If the FDA is on the rocks and works on a skeleton staff, the govt should intervene and fill in their coffers and recruit more people. FDA has great responsibilities.

    Re: Bad Medicine

Governments are notorious for lacking innovation, for being wedded to caution and routine. After all, if you take a risk and it doesn't pan out, you could be raked over the political coals. A prime example of this stifling bureaucratic approach is the Food & Drug Administration, whose notoriety for making the approval of new drugs ever more expensive--with nothing to show in efficacy and safety--has been increasing over the years. The FDA's behavior is no surprise to the organization's watchers: Approve a medication that has an unintended side effect and congressional headline-seekers will be giving officials the third degree. Better to let people die ** depriving them of new medicines than to be excoriated ** the likes of McCarthyite demagogues such as Representative Henry Waxman (D-Calif.).
But this play-it-safe attitude--even at the expense of human lives--is creating a devastating and potentially far more deadly impact: The pipeline for new antibiotics is drying up. Since the 1940s the miracle of penicillin and its relatives has saved tens of millions of lives. Antibiotics easily conquered such illnesses as pneumonia and tuberculosis, which routinely killed countless numbers of people each year. Bacteria, of course, can become drug-resistant, but for decades pharmaceutical companies, especially in the U.S., routinely came up with new antibiotics to fell new killer germs. Now, however, the flow of new stuff has dried to a trickle.

Authorities are taking note of all this, as is the U.S. Congress. Henry Waxman has declared that the pharmaceutical industry's failure to develop a reliable new class of antibiotics is an example of "market failure.” No it isn't, Henry; it's a failure of government regulation. The FDA has made clinical trials cost-prohibitive.
Many reasons are being bandied about for the dearth of new drugs: Research is becoming more expensive, thus pharmaceutical companies are finding the cost/benefit risks too high; we are overusing antibiotics, there** reducing their potency too quickly. But the chief villain is the FDA.
In Antibiotics: The Perfect Storm (Springer, 2010) David M. Shlaes lays it out. "Regulatory agencies like the FDA are contributing to the problem with a constant barrage of clinical trial requirements that make it harder, slower and more costly to develop antibiotics.” Another bad guy: "The National Institutes of Health was for many years [biased] against ******* antibiotic research.”

Shlaes knows whereof he speaks. He has spent his professional life as a first-rate researcher, studying antibiotics. He also works with patients and has created innovative applications of various medicines to save people who would otherwise have perished. He has worked for pharmaceutical companies and has had to cope with the FDA.

The FDA, for instance, will capriciously change its rules in the middle of an expensive clinical trial, suddenly telling a company that it must add thousands of new patients to the tests. Even when trials are successfully completed the FDA is reluctant to give a new drug the green light.
Normally if big companies can't respond to an opportunity or a need in health care--or anywhere else--entrepreneurial startups will leap in. But small companies are even more disadvantaged ** the FDA's increasingly horrific bureaucratic roadblocks.
Thus today we are faced with potential catastrophe. Lethal bacteria now threaten to colonize U.S. hospitals. Fearsome germs that are resistant to our current antibiotic arsenal include MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), which currently kills nearly 20,000 Americans a year. An even more dangerous genetic mutation is NDM-1 (New Delhi metallo-betalactamase 1). If nothing is done, we will be facing a bacterial apocalypse. The horrors that we thought were banished 70 years ago are coming back.

Proposals are being discussed to deal with this crisis, such as allowing a company to extend its patent on another drug if it successfully brings a needed antibiotic to market or granting generous "targeted” tax credits to spur on the industry.
A more fruitful approach would be to overhaul the FDA and remove its capricious hurdles. Entrepreneurs would then rush in to fill the void. The opportunities would be vast.

    Re: Bad Medicine

(NaturalNews) Proponents of Senate Bill 510 -- the Food Safety and Modernization Act -- keep trying to claim that we need the FDA to protect us from tainted eggs, lettuce, onions and spinach. On the surface, it seems like a reasonable argument: No one should ever die from unsafe food in America, right?

But to accomplish a net reduction in deaths, you'd need to grant power over the food supply to some organization that actually respects human life... and the FDA is not that organization. In fact, as we have documented here on NaturalNews over the last seven years, the FDA is responsible for far more deaths of Americans than all the terrorist events in the history of the world -- combined!

    How is that so?

How the FDA has killed millions of Americans

Well, for starters, the FDA has a long and rather dubious history of keeping dangerous, deadly drugs on the market even after it knows those drugs are killing people. The FDA has even gone out of its way to ignore critical evidence about dangerous drugs in order to appease its Big Pharma clients and keep those high-profit drugs selling while people are dying.

To see one example of this, look at the history of Vioxx -- a drug the FDA kept on the market while it racked up well over 60,000 deaths according to the FDA's own scientists! (http://www.naturalnews.com/011401_D...)

As Dr David Graham said in an interview, "The FDA is responsible for 140,000 heart attacks and 60,000 dead Americans. That's as many people as were killed in the Vietnam War. Yet the FDA points the finger at me and says, Well, this guy's a rat, you can't trust him,' but nobody is calling them to account. Congress isn't calling them to account."

If you want more evidence of the FDA's outrageous disregard for human life, look at the agency's handling of the drug Ketek (http://www.naturalnews.com/019698.html). Or check out how the FDA kept the liver-damaging drug Rezulin on the market while diabetic Americans were dropping dead.

The FDA's own scientists have repeatedly accused the agency of engaging in routine intimidation of scientists who try to call attention to dangerous products (http://www.naturalnews.com/025298_t...).

The FDA censors natural remedies that could save lives

On top of all that corruption and fraud leading to negligent deaths caused ** the FDA, this agency also censors the scientific truth about natural remedies and nutritional supplements that could save millions of lives each year. The FDA won't, for example, allow vitamin D supplement companies to tell the truth about how vitamin D prevents cancer or how vitamin D prevents the flu and makes seasonal flu vaccines obsolete (http://www.naturalnews.com/029760_v...).

The FDA also won't allow any supplement companies to tell the truth about their natural remedies for preventing or even reversing diabetes, heart disease, breast cancer and more.

In doing this, the FDA is complicit in the deaths of at least 250,000 Americans each year. According to the groundbreaking 2003 medical report Death ** Medicine, ** Drs Gary Null, Carolyn Dean, Martin Feldman, Debora Rasio and Dorothy Smith, 783,936 people in the United States die every year from conventional medicine mistakes. The FDA has a hand in at least one-third of those deaths, mostly from its willful corruption and fraud in the world of deadly pharmaceuticals, which have proven to be far more deadly than terrorists (http://www.naturalnews.com/009278.html).

If you do the math on all this, you are forced to reach some startling mathematical conclusions:

    • The FDA is more dangerous than all the terrorists and terror events in the history of the United States.

    • The FDA has killed more Americans than the entire Vietnam War.

    • Even more than that, over the last 20 years the FDA has killed more Americans than the total number who died in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War and even the Civil War -- combined!

    • The FDA is the single most deadly agency that has ever existed in the history of the United States. It is responsible for more body bags, more funerals, more pain and suffering than even the Department of Defense!

    • The FDA does not value human life. It has no compassion for real people. It is driven ** politics and money, and it answers to the demands of powerful corporations who control its agenda (http://www.naturalnews.com/019497.html).

So now, let me get this straight. With Senate Bill 510 we are going to hand over control over the food supply to the most nefarious, corrupt and deadly agency that has ever existed in the history of the United States of America?

FDA could outlaw all raw vegetables

The FDA has killed more people than the CIA, FBI, ATF and DEA combined. This agency is technically responsible for the negligent homicide of countless American men, women, children and senior citizens. It has stood ** and allowed modern psychiatry to drug our children into violent behavior. It has censored the truth about nutrition and natural remedies, and it has enforced a campaign of nutritional ignorance among the American people, making sure that virtually all competition to Big Pharma's patented drugs is completely wiped out (or criminalized).

The FDA has criminalized your raw milk, turning farmers into felons. The FDA once ordered the burning of recipe books containing stevia recipes as part of its effort to outlaw this natural sweetener (in order to protect aspartame profits). (http://www.naturalnews.com/001552.html)

And now the U.S. Congress wants this agency in charge of your food?

    What madness is this?

We're going to take the largest killer in the history of America and give it the power to control the growing of foods, the saving of seeds and even the operations of small family farms?

Can you imagine what the FDA is going to do with that kind of power? Trust me: It won't be pretty. It may even be fatal. I can just see this agency outlawing all vegetables unless they're irradiated. They might outlaw raw food and require all food be pasteurized. They could ban not just raw milk but even raw broccoli.

Sound crazy? Sure it does! But so does the idea of raw milk being criminalized in America, too. America was raised on raw milk. What do you think Thomas Jefferson drank at his farm? What do you think kept the pioneers alive in the harsh Midwest winters?

If the FDA can outlaw raw milk, they can outlaw anything. And Senate Bill 510 would give them all the power they need to do this.

    Never give a psychopath explosives

It's a dangerous deal with the devil, of course. Handing the FDA power over the food supply is like giving a violent psycho access to military-grade explosives. The net result can only be catastrophic and deadly.

I'm all for the idea of "safe food," but not if it involves taking the most dangerous government agency in the history of America and putting it in charge of the way we grow food, store seeds, harvest crops and package food products.

Do we need to "modernize" our food creation systems in America? Sure we do, but not at the cost of making us all victims of a dangerous, corrupt and downright disastrously managed U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

And besides, virtually all the contamination of food we're seeing today is due to factory animal farming runoff. That's where e.coli comes from, ** the way. E.coli is an intestinal pathogen and plants don't have intestines. It can only be harbored in animals. (http://www.organicconsumers.org/art...)

So the problem with our food supply is not that the FDA doesn't yet have enough power; it's that we have abusive, cruel and ridiculously unclean factory animal farms operating in America that are contaminating the vegetables. If you really want to clean up the food supply, just crack down on the factory animal farms and let the veggie growers get back to work doing what they do best: Growing healthful, nutrient-rich vegetables that help keep America healthy.

    Kills Millions!
    [/FONT]
The UN's World Health Organization (WHO) has just recommended that drinking water contain 25-50 mg of magnesium per liter to prevent deaths from heart attack and stroke. www.MgWater.com/download American bottled water averages <5 mg of magnesium (Mg) per liter, while bottled water in the rest of the world averages about 20 mg of magnesium per liter.

The FDA and the US Department of Justice (DOJ) caused the Mg-deficient-water problem ** Un-Constitutionally destroying the American mineral water industry in the 1930's, in the mistaken belief that pure water was good, and that mineral water was just impure water. No other country has ever destroyed their mineral water industry. Book Ref: Crazy Water -- The Story of Mineral Wells and Other Texas Health Resorts, Gene Fowler, Texas Christian University Press, 1991.

For decades, the evidence has been overwhelming that Americans are very deficient in Mg, as evidenced ** the 23% shortfall from the RDI, yet the FDA and DOJ have covered up their blunder, getting a Federal lawsuit dismissed before the evidence could be shown, and keeping silent about the millions of deaths indicated ** over 50 epidemiological studies from nine countries. Recent studies clearly confirm that water-borne Mg is far, far better in preventing cardiovascular pathologies than food-borne Mg.

Epidemiological studies indicate that millions of Americans have died due to the FDA's and DOJ's destruction of the American mineral water industry. See:
    www.mgwater.com/anderson.shtml
    www.mgwater.com/finland.shtml
    www.mgwater.com/lancet.shtml www.mgwater.com/singh.shtml

Now, it is up to the FDA and DOJ to end this travesty, requiring the Mg content of bottled or canned beverages to be put in labels' nutrition panels, and requiring that all bottled or canned beverages contain at least 25 mg of Mg per liter. FDA and DOJ have ignored petitions and a lawsuit, continuing to kill Millions of Americans just to cover-up their blunder.
