    Scam.com possibly infected with virus.

I got two fake screens with Adobe Flash Player update request while I was on scam.com. Like idiot, I did check first time and downloaded some file. Second time, I noticed request was not not from Adobe website. So I am running my anti-spyware programs right now.

I noticed that I got some "Adobe extension"(I am on Firefox) which should not be there. It is quite possible that I "picked it up" before and it chose to act now

    Yikes!

Keep us posted, and I'll run Symantec right now just to be safe.

use system restore to set your system back to a time before you downloaded that fake flash update.

    It's gone.
A well maintained site will deal with a breach pretty fast: the attraction of a trusted site for the cracker is, therefore, not Time On Site, but how much potentially infectable traffic can be expected in the brief time the malware is present.

It was reported within 35 minutes of being imbedded in a post. It was deleted and perp was banned. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It could be one of the many VB issues FireFox has. There is some code that bad adverts use to lock out the browser, simulate some sort of error, or missing file, or hijack your current view.

None of these had lasting effects on me, but they are annoying since I have to terminate FF, and restart it, to be able to do any more web crawling.

I am using the Firefox add-on "Flashblock" which blocks flash windows. I don't know whether this would have made for safer browsing in this situation, but I have my Firefox set to ask me before downloading anything.
I also use private browsing a lot.

as long as we're here, can anybody speak to the tons of cookies scam, googleads and doubleclick are so generously leaving on my hard disk drive every day?

normally, that's a minor annoyance i deal with by deleting them, but i just found this little gem in my Temp folder. i don't like finding junk i didn't ask to have put in that folder

especially not somebody's empty notepad called GoogleQuickSearchBoxSetup that won't let me copy anything about it.
