    One more nail

Heres one more nail in the coffin that holds the argument that life could not evolve:

    http://www.physorg.com/news169736472.html

"Glycine is an amino acid used by living organisms to make proteins, and this is the first time an amino acid has been found in a comet," said Dr. Jamie Elsila of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. "Our discovery supports the theory that some of life's ingredients formed in space and were delivered to Earth long ago by meteorite and comet impacts."

IOW, the first time we look at a comet is the first time we find traces of amino acids in the comet. They are common compounds.

A very intersting find, but this is not the right place to put it. This would make for a fantastic thread in the "Science Controversy" section though.

The Stardust program is one of my favorite. It is pure research, looking for the origins of the universe.

Although I would like to slap the people that created the rift between God and Evolution a long time ago.

As far as I can tell...the two are compatible.

Well... there's not a lot of controversy about it, and it does lead to showing the religious scam about creation of life.

    Judgement call.

This is exactly my thought/feeling on this matter. I think the rift occurred when religion decided that our earth was/is the whole point of/preeminent in creation or was it they did not know any better ??? a flat earth thing and all was given so no need for a process.

    FYI(for you are in formation):sun_smiley:

A non religious understanding of evolution/creation:judges:

I try to imagine people of the bronze age trying to get a grip on the imagery of the creation of the universe....and then trying to put that image into words. It must have been a daunting task.

Not to mention, the creation of life from dirt....is a concept that would be out of the scope of imagination for people of that time. But it is so true.

I'm sure that some poor soul had to conceptualize the whole dirt thing, and imagined God sittin' down by the riverbank, sculpting His Adam. When, really, if you read the verses, they were written from the point of view of someone who received valid information that they didn't understand....and did their best to interpret it. IMHO

The fact is, Genesis is vague, at best. The period between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2 could be billions of years. But to inspire the image on the writer....a writer that knows little more than rudementary farming, let alone, where the rain comes from...is quite a task.

I actually enjoy reading those verses over and over, and trying to put myself into the place of someone from that time.

We are at such a disadvantage in this technological age, to not be able to understand things in the unlearned ways of several milennia ago.

The hardest thing to do in this world and not physically, but mentally. Is to look at things in an open manner. With out a preconception or expectation. In this time we seem to know everything, i've been accused of this. I'll be the first one to admit. The more I know, the more I know, I don't know. Even the things we don't know get glossed over and covered up. You have a good view point my friend. Where religion went wrong is by using the bible for power and control. Once this happens it can't change without losing this perceived P and C and so their truth can't change even in the face of new information. I have found the athiest is in the same boat, only from a different direction. Isn't this world grand ???

The phrase that I've been using the past 20 years or so is "The older I get and the more I learn, the more I realize how little I know"

My kids hate that phrase. :spin2:

Yep. The very young (pre-teen) are like sponges to their parents knowledge. Teenagers go through a massive hormonal upheaval and their brains turn to jello.

    They know everything.

Then their Jellobrains start to solidify again around 18. They still know everything but they are willing to learn but assume that no one else knows the stuff that they just found out.

Time goes on....experience begins to happen...and they begin to realize that other people have gone through the same process. They begin to see that old people know stuff...and that teenagers don't know anything.

This is when the life-learning begins.

    Just my own p.ersonal observations.

    I know nothing.

Maybe it's generational... You're generation and your kids generation actually don't know anything and the people 1/2 generation before and behind actually do??

You seem to think that you're old and that old people know more... isn't that something like a teenager's mentality?

And.... You don't know what it's like to be a teen today. Whats the worst you had to deal with? A few bad eggs that might beat you up after school? Cigarettes? Alcohol?

Compare that to the hardcore drugs, rape scenarios, forced prostitution, gangs, swarmings, cell phones, internet, porn etc. etc. that kids get to deal with from middle school forward, you really don't have any idea what it's like for them.

Their world is far different than the one you lived in. They are very correct. When you try to council them relying on your experience from your childhood. You really don't know anything.

I don't think it would be an overstatement to say that the changes social dynamics complexity are about the same as the changes in computer complexity from your generation to theirs.

I've seen what happens in highchools and had some real discussions with some students. I would be shaking in my boots if I had to endure that for even one day. It's a wonder they get any education at all.

What I was saying is that the older you get, the more you realize how little you know....

I wasn't saying that old people know everything.

    Apparently I was not clear.

Okay, I'll accept that, but when the teen says you don't know anything about *how they live* (and they know a lot) they are right.

The problem comes along when you tell them that that's not the way it is in the "Real" world, but to them, school is the only real world they've ever known.
