The what would you do thread?

You HAVE to make a choice.

Okay, would you rather save the life of a friend, or 1000 total strangers?

Me? Tough, but I would have to lean on the side of my friend.

I would ask the friend what he would do in that situation...

It's just one choice or the other.

Part of me wants to save the 1000 total strangers, especially since there are women and children involved.

But the other part of me says screw these people, I don't know them, it's about survival of the fittest, and that includes family/friends/people close to me.

I'll go with saving my friend.

Precisely my logic, such as it is.

These people are impersonal, you would feel bad at the loss of so many lives, yet because they are strangers, there is that sense of emotional detachment.

Anyone else on the first one..?

    Okay, a few more then..

You are left at home all week with an envelope.

In there contains the exact time and manner of your demise.

    Would you open it?

You find a purse with about $2k in cash. You could probably trace the owner through the other info in the purse. Would you just pocket the money?

I would be tempted by the envelope, but would resist that temptation, as best as I could.

And I would keep the money, unless I was really well off, because then it wouldn't be such a find.

    I would do as paulm...ie...

    Save the friend
    Open the envelope
And keep the money (because, really, who keeps 2K in cash on hand, it must be drug money or somthin')

Leave the envelope closed. ( It will happen when it does)
    And keep the money.

Save 1,000 people only if there weren't any kids in the group. I don't like kids. If there are kids, I'll save my friend.

Open the envelope and plan to take certain people along with me on the day of demise.

Track down the person and if they are well off, keep the money. If not, I'd return the money.

I dont think I would open the envelope...I think I would prefer to live my life in the same way I would if I didnt know.

Now actually having the willpower to NOT open it is another question lol

Re: The what would you do thread?

I would rather be in the situation at the time and not have any time to think about it.
    Just react.

But I would think I would save many people rather than one. Hard decision though. This decision would be the hardest for me out of the three.

Give the money back. Not enough money to keep and possibly feel guilt about it after the fact.

Yes I think I would want to know when and how I will die. Scary but would open the envelope. My curiosity would kill me if I did not open the envelope.

I'd save the life of the friend. No contest.

Life is about values. If you value 'the masses' over the people you care about, you've got to be a pretty confused, or lousy, human being.
