    Need some ideas

I have recently taken a lot of the info/proposals I have received via email and snail mail and studied it and have spent the last couple months putting together a guide/book for people to help them understand a little about the Home-based business industry as well as including some other practical tools. I am looking for a good way to sell this online and would be interested in any imput. I have one idea at the moment and it is on my website which you can find in my profile. Let me know what you think!
    Thanks,
    David

What do you all think is a reasonable price and commission for selling my e-book. I think my observations would be helpful to a lot of people but I don't want to scam anyone out of their money. However, I would like to be able to make something off of it since I did put a lot of time and study into it. Let me know what you think.
    Thanks!

    Re: Need some ideas

So long as the information being offered is genuine and your e-book is not just another e-opinion, but a well researched tome of e-wisdom, $20 is probably too low. If it is just 16 pages containing a list of scams to avoid, then $20 is too much.

It would help, Greatmusic03, if your website contained a precis of the e-book, with the key benefits highlighted. From my first reading of your website, there is no compelling reason to buy your book. I can get all that I need from scam.com. If I can find no reason to buy your book, how/why would I drive traffic to your site to buy it? In a sense, your e-book and the method in which it is being sold, is in conflict with the nature of the material you claim is in the book!

I am no literary genius, but I did notice that there is something wrong with this sentence on your site: Since we are selling the book for $20.00 is a 25% rebate!. Also, so if you drive 1,000 people ... needs a capital 'S'.

    cheers hoddies.

Thanks, like I said the website is a work in progress but I will take your thoughts into consideration... also thanks for the editing notes :)
As far as what the book is about, I have taken some time to study why this business is so big and why so many people, including myself, get sucked into all of these scams. The Goal is to help people realize why the majority of these "opportunities" are set up. I don't list any specific companies or scams. Instead my goal is to help people think through the whole process instead of making a decision. I would guess that about 80% or more of the people who join these programs do it quickly without evaluating them completely.
Basically, what I do is give them some insights into the industry that I have found to be true so that they understand what they are really getting into. I also explain the life cycle of a business. I include some "hooks" or "bait" to watch out for when you are evaluating the materials.
However, I think the most important part is the evaluation check sheet that I have made. It is about 2 pages long (3 if you include the "Questions to ask" page). It sort of takes you step by step in making a good evaluation of both the "opportuinty" and whether you think it is 1. something you would like to do, and 2. something you think you can do.
In my opinion, of course, I believe that my studies and information and evaluations would be very helpful to most people, especially those just getting involved in this whole process.
Anyway, I hope that is all understandable. :) Let me know what you think.
    Thanks,
    David

    Re: Need some ideas

    David,

It sounds like it contains some good scam-busting tips and advice. Spruce up the website a bit (as you have said you are doing) and you might have something I would be happy to promote on my website and other forums (that permit such things).

I too have been tempted at times to get involved in some of the scams that have come my way. Fortunately I have spent enough time evaluating the claims and doing the math on the commission system to know that most offers really are too good to be true.

I have also seen some geniune business opportunities that offer real products that can be eaten/worn/used but are usually over-priced in order to cover all the commission payments.

Keep up the fight. The un-scammed deserve to know!!

    Re: Need some ideas

Thanks for all the imput. Also, I have been thinking about selling in hard copy (not hard back) instead of e-book in an attempt to curb some of the pirating that i am sure will happen. I know this will take longer and will be a little more expensive on my end... Also, what are your thoughts about setting up an affiliate program. should I mess with that or just try to promote it on my own? Also, what is a reasonable commission for affiliates. I don't want to cheat them. Also, what is the best way to set up an affiliate program. The way I have it now is too easy to make a lot of sales with out anyone entering an affiliate ID which means that the people who promoted it are not getting anything in return. I deffinately don't want to be a neg. on this message board! lol
thanks again for all the help!

If you are thinking of publishing the book, take a look at http://www.lulu.com and http://www.booksurgepublishing.com/ . Both offer the ability to upload your e-book and have them sell any quantity from 1 upwards, at very low costs and good returns to the author. They are both on-demand publishers that specialise in small print runs.

    cheers, hoddies

    David,

The information should be valued at a price that people are willing to pay for what they will get. You should be setting the price based on the information it includes.

An affiliate program would be benefitial to you, greatly. You can purchase affiliate software online that will do the hard work for you.

You can also set up a ClickBank account and be a seller.

    Anyway, good luck.

If you want some website help, let me know. I'd be willing to help for something in return.

    Let me know.

    Matt

    Re: Need some ideas

Thanks for the help. I don't need any help with the website as I have some experience in html/java/flash. It is just taking me a while to get everything set up since, like everyone else, I am working a full time job as well. :) I will look into the affiliate program thing. I don't know much about that.
    Thanks,
    David

    Re: Need some ideas

Question: I just spent only 2 or 3 min. on clickbank. Can I set up a complete affiliate program through them? Is that safe? easy? workable? I don't have time to read it all right now. However, I will later today. Also, those of you who use clickbank for this stuff, how does the mark up and percentage charge work? If you need to pm me because it takes a while to explain feel free! :)
    Thanks,
    david

OK, This is website number 1. It is not complete because I have not decided if I am going to use Click Bank for my affiliate program or not. Let me know what you all think. Thanks again for all your help!
