Is this a legit site: www.foreclosure-shield.com?

We are facing some financial hardship and need help with modifying our loan. We have our mortgage with IndyMac Federal Bank. They seem to pass us on without wanting to help. Aren't they taken over by the Federal government? How come there isn't a program to help us? I saw this site and just wanted to get some info as to if it is legit. Thank you for any information provided.

I wouldnt trust anyone who is charging a fee to help you out with your loan. With the stimulus bill and all that coming down the pike, there is a good chance that your lender will be able to/be required by the law to TRY to do something for you. My first look would be at http://www.hopenow.com/ They are federally supported and do not charge a fee for helping consumers get workouts with their lenders.

    The indications aren't good.

Here's the Whois info for foreclosure-shield.com:

    Registrant:
    c/o FORECLOSURE-SHIELD.COM
    P.O. Box 821650
    Vancouver, WA 98682
    US

    Registrar: DOTSTER
    Domain Name: FORECLOSURE-SHIELD.COM
    Created on: 29-JAN-08
    Expires on: 29-JAN-10
    Last Updated on: 02-JAN-09

    Administrative Contact:
    h8dRTT@privacypost.com
    c/o FORECLOSURE-SHIELD.COM
    P.O. Box 821650
    Vancouver, WA 98682
    US
    +1.360-449-5933

That address and phone number have been associated with some dubious outfits, according to various Web entries. For example, at http://www.everycall.us/number/13215047429
    a user claims the following:

"There seems to be one person behind this spam. An ex bass-legend-in-his-own-mind, Randy Coven, seems to have gone into telespamming. His contact info. is
    Randy Coven
    P.O. Box 821650
    Vancouver, WA 98682
    U.S.A
    360-449-5933"

A reverse lookup on that phone number today gives a listing for "Talwar Ka" in Vancouver, no address.

Checking the Washington State corporate records, there are a couple-dozen companies registered with "foreclosure" in their names, but no "Foreclosure Shield."

And a search of the Better Business Bureau (http://www.bbb.org/us/Consumer-Business-Reviews/) turns up zero hits.

I would also suggest that it's disturbing that the foreclosure-shield Web site gives no contact information except an e-mail address.

My guess is it's yet another data gathering vehicle. Check out their privacy policy.

These firms cannot do anything you can't do for yourself. Mortgage servicers have no obligation to even respond to them. If someone asks you to pay to negotiate with your mortgage servicer they are scamming you.

Thank you all for your responses.

I guess when you're in desperate need of help, you just lose all judgment and just want to believe anyone out there can help.

    Thank you.

    This address:
    P.O. Box 821650
    Vancouver, WA 98682 scam
Also goes to www.criminalpages.com, a site that illegally disseminates criminal histories. This site does FREE name based searches and lists duplicate criminal charges (even traffic tickets) and shows charges that are sealed or expunged. This is in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Please file a complaint to the Federal Trace Commission to have www.criminalpages.com shut down. Also file to the Washington State Atty General's office.

If you google the PO BOX address it comes up with numerous scams. So it definitely needs to be shut down.

    The address;
    P.O. Box 821650

is for privacypost.com a private registration service.

    See Wiki- Domain privacy,
Domain privacy is a service offered by a number of domain name registrars. A user buys privacy from the company, who in turn replaces the user's info in the WHOIS with the info of a forwarding service (for email and sometimes postal mail, done by a Proxy server) such as "Domains by Proxy, Inc." or eNom's "Whois Privacy Protection Service".
    And aboutus.org/PrivacyPost.com,
Whois information is public, but in response to some people wanting to keep their contact information private, many domain name Registrars offer a "privacy" or "proxy" service to mask the domain name owner. This domain is most likely using a proxy service.
If you check foreclosure-shield.com/contactus or criminalpages.com/contact you'll note that neither gives a address or phone number, as noted in a above post. So you do not have a address or phone number for these websites as they are using a private registration service.

A private registration service works in much the same way as having a unlisted/unpublished phone number.

You should always be leery of a sending any information/money to a company/website that uses a private registration service. You have no idea who or where they are.

    That is really creepy.
This www.criminalpages.com posts whatever it wants - whether or not sealed/expunged, so if a person loses their job due to its negligence, then how do you sue?
I am filing with the FTC and AG's office. It needs to be shut down.

You can generally access the same stuff from Federal Court records with PACER, (must register for a account). You can also access local court records for my county at cpclerk.co.summit.oh.us, (free for anyone to search- no account or login required). Here are my counties property records at fiscaloffice.summitoh.net/index.php/property-tax-search, (again, no account or login required).

Court records are a matter of public record in the US, as are property tax records, and business registrations. Even marriage licenses, divorce records, death certificates, etc... Access varies by State and county, but they have always been available if you walk in or call your local records office. Some places may even have some fees attached.

Try typing your county and 'court records' after it in Google. I've searched hundreds of court records over the years and almost all of them require only a name. Of course some names (like John Smith) are very common and it's hard to pick out a individual without more information like a DOB.

"Court records are a matter of public record in the US" - not all court records are public information. Many records are sealed/expunged/dismissed & sealed, etc.... These 3rd party data aggregators cannot suck up and sell anything they want. Court records are "public" only to the extent the county/state with jurisdiction over those records say they are public - in many cases the courts say it is NOT public information.

Sites like criminalpages.com buy old, old information and put it up as if it's current. Further, it also sells case "information". This means it is regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Here is a link that flushes out sites like criminalpages.com or publicdata.com:

Well, before you go giving all kinds or credit to a blog, I might suggest some research. For example,
    blogs.imperativeinfo.com
    April 28, 2008
    ......
    Where are they located?
A little historical perspective may help here. In 1997, when Texas and other states prohibited the publication of drivers license information over the internet by implementing the Drivers Privacy Protection Act, publicdata.com was moved offshore to Anguilla, British West Indies. Anguilla is a favorite for off-shore tax shelters and other operations seeking to avoid the US legal system. (See this article from The Industry Standard about Anguilla featuring publicdata.com.)
    Here's the other linked article,
NOTE that this article is 10 years old.
Fast, Cheap and Out of Control - Internet/Web/Online Service Information
    August 14, 2000
    ............
From sunny Anguilla, a British dependency, Cate runs a Web site (www.publicdata.com.ai) that provides access to various U.S. records. Many of these are mundane things like drivers' license data, but Cate's site also publishes hotter items like voter rolls and even criminal files. Some of these records are prohibited in the U.S. from being put online. Texas, for example, sells drivers' license records, but only on the condition that they not be posted on the Web, says Cate.
If the website is not in the US then US law does not apply. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is a US law, it means nothing in Anguilla. It is not in any way illegal for them to post such information as they are not in the US. The FTC and AG have no jurisdiction in foreign countries, neither does the FBI. If you want to do something about it then you need to tighten the access of the information from the source, ie the State of Texas for example. Or perhaps the US Government could do like China and censor the internet.

Also, the topic of this thread is foreclosure-shield.com and this forum section is about mortgage scams.
Do you have any input on foreclosure-shield.com or mortgage scams?
If not may I suggest started another thread in the 'Other Scams' or 'Internet Scams' section instead of continuing to highjack this thread with off-topic posts.

    Gee, thanks.

Ascertained that two weeks ago in Post #7.
