Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
If the company that supply you with the surveys is making his money out of the "registration fee" or members fee, and not from the surveys you complete, rather stay away. If you have to pay someone to do work for him, also stay clear. YOU must be paid to work. And the normal procedure to start doing work for someone is to do an interview, show what you can do etc. NOT giving money to receive some junk package full of promises of completing 200 surveys per month, and then actually doing 1 in two months. Some companies have surveys only for specific countries, and do not tell you that before you buy their membership. Look very carefully before you get involved in this, and ask lots of questions untill you are satisfied.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
PLM, that's great advice.
I would never pay someone to go to work for them, and on the other hand there are some survey companies that are free to join, but once again they only offer a limited number of survey’s, and most don't pay more that a couple of bucks per survey.
I would advise to stay clear totally, even though some do pay, the amount of money you are going to make is minute, so it's really a waist of time.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
I am actually a member of one of these...they do, in fact, pay.
I get a $50 Amex gift checque....about twice a year, tops.
They do pay....they just don't do a lot of surveys.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
Well I've never paid to join any survey sites for that exact reason, but in regards to that last post, some people recieve a lot of surveys from these sites. It all depends on your demographic. Say if you're a middle-class middle-aged woman, you'd get way more surveys than a lower-class young male. Those are the extremes, but legitimate survey sites often go into more detail to suit you to the right surveys. Both myself and a lot of my friends are members of two good survey sites and sometimes I'll get more and sometimes they'll get more it all depends on interests. My aunt joined one of the sites and gets heaps of surveys, sometimes one every two days or more, it's crazy... If you want the addresses of those two sites just e-mail me, they're free to join and no credit card details needed etc.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
I've tried a couple "paid survey" companies and they usually end up with a time consuming survey that enters you in a sweepstakes or gives you points that you can use to buy something. Plus I seemed to get more spam.

Note: They pay me. I don't pay them.
I use a separate spam account for receipt of these surveys.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
Yeah, there are a few legit ones out there. Just like SubJunk said, you will get surveys based on the interests you entered in your profile when you signed up (if you intentionally check all the boxes so that you're 'interested' in everything, you can make about 100 bucks a day if you spend a lot of time filling the surveys).

I know of possibly at least 2 that are legit, but to get signed up for "ALL" those PAID SURVEY things out there would take forever and a day to get signed up for them. I would never join any that ask for a fee. What would be nice is if anyone knows of way to be able to sign up for all the free-to-join ones ALL AT ONCE!

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
some companies are legit, but most of them are not.
Stay away from sites that sells a list of companies that pay per survey, you can easily search for Survey Companies through yahoo or google directory.
hope this helps.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
www.acop.com
American Consumer Opinions Poll (Anne Parks Surveys)
I have taken surveys for them for years.
Never had to give any personal info...eg ss number, etc...
No fees
Just email surveys to me every week or so about different things
eg Opinions on different advertising labels...what gets my attention better, etc...
Very quick...usually 5 to 20 minutes and I receive a check in about 2 weeks usually between $8 and $12 per survey I took.
Not a lot of money, but not a lot of effort
Basically I get a couple of nice dinners out with my wife every month for free
Hope this helps

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
I also participate in online surveys and have never had to pay any sort of fee to join.
In the past 24 months or so, I have received several gift certificates for restaurants, a $50 Amex cash-card that I had to spend at specific stores (spent it at Borders.com), and a little cash in the form a checks (never more than $20).
I must warn you though... this is not something that you can support yourself on, but just a little extra cash every-now-and-then, as it takes a while to accumulate the points for the rewards.
Also, you should create a special email account at one of those free email sites like at: Yahoo.com, Excite.com, iwon.com, etc., etc., as you will likely get buried in SPAM. I average approximately 100 spams in my excite account on a daily basis...(thank-god for the free 125meg account.)

From the link sited above, which has a warning about fee sites:

The process of joining hundreds of companies can be somewhat difficult and time consuming. To make this process easier download a free software program called RoboForm. It can automatically fill in online application forms and store passwords to web sites

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
Hey,
I have a new site coming out in the coming months. Its a huge site for
advertising, but one thing I offer to members is a list of legitimate
Survey sites that have paid. 5 pages worth. They list whether they
pay in cash or pay in cash & prizes, etc.
One for example: takes about an hour depending on the person to fill
out, but they pay $30. Drawback is that you can only do one a month
or more depending on the info they seek.
I'm only adding it as an additional method for the members to earn an
extra income. No affiliate ops involved in these survey sites. It's great
for the stay at home Mom/Dad, home bound handicapped, et. that have the
time on their hands.
Deffinately stay away from the ones that request fee's and or offer laptops! ;)

I am mainly concerned about the legitimacy of these survey sites. If you have collected info on legitimate surveys, then I would be interested in knowing about them. When you get your site up, I would like to know about it. Please feel free to email me at barb_31650@yahoo.com

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
I just wanted to let those of you who have been to my site using the FREE list of paid survey sites that it looks like we have kept around $3,000.00 OUT of the hands of those people charging for these lists in January alone! I feel so great to be able to do that! As some of you know, I paid for a list of survey sites last year and felt pretty well scammed by it. I was able to get my money back and I went through the list, weeded out all the junk sites, broken links, state specific sites, etc. and posted a list of legitimate paid survey sites on my web site. One of the things I have figured out in the past couple of months is that the more surveys you take, the better the survey offers you will get. I avoided a lot of the ones that only entered you in drawings, then I found people who were getting paid surveys from those same companies and I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting those offers. I started taking the prize drawing surveys and within a month or so I was getting better offers. I still maintain that you will never get rich or even make a couple hundred a month, but you can pick up some pocket change and get into free product trials etc. :)

I just got paid by surveysavvy so they are definetly legit. I have also earned quite a bit with NFO, just haven't received a check yet.
For those that still think surveys are a scam here is a check I received in the mail a few days ago.
It took a couple months to earn this check but it only came down to a few hours of work, which included refering a few friends. So the payoff is worth the work, I think.
Research companies are legit, they provide a much needed service to big corporations and they make a good deal of money from it. So they can afford to pay people a few dollars for their opinions.
That being said, DON'T ever PAY to join surveys. Surveysavvy, NFO and hundreds of other legitimate research companies do not charge you to participate. All you need to do is find a website that lists these companies for FREE. There are many good free paid survey sites out there but the best one I have found is yellowsurveys.com, they have the largest database of survey sites.
I hope the info helps.
Here's the url to yellowsurveys - http://www.yellowsurveys.com

Paid surveys are they for real?
Hello, My Name Is Pete.
Several years ago I was injured in an on the job accident and had to collect disability, I noticed all of the hype about paid surveys while searching for a way to supplement my meager income online.
While searching for companies that would compensate me for my effort I decided to start with the search engines.
I used every conceivable phrase imaginable using the search engines (paid-to, paid-survey, paid opinions, paid survey database, free paid surveys, online surveys, free surveys etc.) to try to find a list of companies that would actually pay me well enough to help me pay the bills working online.
I didn’t want to pay for a membership to a survey database, although, that certainly looked like a more expedient way of finding a large catalog of companies to register with, but I can be pretty stubborn when it comes to things like that so I decided that I would do all of the research on my own and compile a database.
Within a couple of months I was making money but not nearly the amount that some of the database websites had promised.
I first signed up with GoZing, Greenfield Online, NFO Mysurvey, Synovate, Lightspeed and SurveySpot et cetera. These companies paid exactly what they promised but you have to look at the process as just that, a process. I have found it to be a three tiered process.
First is the registration, when you fill in the signup form with as much personal data as is required, this helps the company to identify the surveys you may qualify for in the future.
Second, you must wait for an invitation which will usually arrive within a month after signup, the best exception is NFO Mysurvey, they send you a survey the next day.
This process is an important one; this is where you will be informed of the approximant length of the survey and most importantly the reward you will receive if you are able to complete it. If you choose to reply to the invitation it will most likely take you to a brief questionnaire that will confirm you meet the criteria set by the company to start the survey.
Third is simply filling in the survey, this might seem arduous to some but I myself enjoy it, maybe it’s that I buy into the thought process that I’m not only making a little bit of extra cash but that I’m effecting the future marketplace. Either way, this is my favorite part of the process.
The real key to turning this into something more than a passing whim is to take it for what it is. Your average survey will pay you about $3 and take you about twelve minutes to complete, not bad if you think about it!
Here’s the secret, you have to find hundreds of quality companies and register with every one of them, and this gets your profile into enough databases to allow you to be selective when invitations arrive.
Just last week I finished a bulletin board discussion and received $100.00 in compensation for about an hour and a half of my time. While I can’t divulge what company it was that paid me I can tell you it’s an easily recognizable name in the industry. Another company paid me $40.00 for a twenty minute survey involving a subject that I am particularly qualified for and I have completed countless surveys for $10 to $15.This is not something the average person who gets involved in this should expect.
I take this very seriously and spend a great deal of time keeping me profiles updated to make sure these companies have all of my prudent information. So you see it’s really all about information and sheer number of these companies who have you and your profile on file in their database, so when their clients needs require folks that meet your specific qualifications you get the opportunity to be rewarded.
Since I started this endeavor more than three years ago I have made close to $50,000, this is not something you should expect to achieve but if I did it participating in and completing online and telephone surveys, online and at site focus and discussion groups, product testing, taste testing, you name it, then you might be able to as well if you put the time in and believe me it takes a great deal of it if your as serious as I am.
I have taken everything that I learned during this time and started my own website. Not a paid survey database but a free one.
I update it everyday and have laid it out in an easy to understand way that’s also easy to navigate.
Please take a look: Hee hee I just made you waste all that time typing your BS! No more referral links.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
Hi Pete, the whole purpose of this board is to keep people from being scammed and here you are saying you have made $50,000 dollars. This goes back to what NavySeals said in either this post or another one here. I went to your site and you may have made that much but it was probably because you are an affiliate with with offersquest and primary ads for the survey companies. If I am wrong than I definately appologize, but I bet if I was wrong you would still be busy taking surveys instead of promoting the sites.
I have tried to be honest with everyone here. I am an affiliate for exactly FOUR or FIVE of the survey companies and I don't make enough to even pay for my website. If you want to try the survey thing I have an honest FREE list that is cleaned up and does not include the survey sites that want you to spend two hours answering the same questions over and over for the chance to win a car. You will NOT get rich and you won't even make 100's of dollars a day but you can pick up some extra cash and some great products.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
:info: Katie, it's true that I currently make money by also being an affiliate but if you look closely you'll see that I currently list about 250 companies and I am an affiliate of around 10% of them.
My site does not charge like Survey Scout of Survey Platinum for use of our database and I myself have been a member of those companies and I believe I have a better site.
Soon I will post images of all of the checks and PayPal deposits that I have received in just the last two months from my participation in surveys, focus groups, discussion group’s, bulletin boards, product testing and mystery shopping.
I thought putting this site together would help some people who are interested in getting involved in this. The truth is I make very little money with my site, about enough to pay for it’s existence; the only reason I keep it up is because I hated paying $34.95 to those companies that charge a fee.
I update and add new listings to my site on a daily basis and my site is categorized very neatly and is easy to navigate. A major website with international prominence has sent me a letter asking if I would be interested in doing some work for them in their Frugal Living Section because of the effort I put into my site.
As for the fifty thousand dollar statement, if you noticed I stated that sum was earned over a three and a half year period or about fourteen thousand dollars a year. I know a good number of teenagers who do better than that!
For me it’s worth it since I can’t perform the physical acts that I was once capable of and I have become a bit of a shut-in.
I hope people appreciate the site for what it is and that’s not one that’s meant to make money but to help those who are I a similar situation that I was in and looking for a way to help pay some bills that they might not otherwise be able to take care of.
Thanks and God Bless, Peter S. Walled Lake, Michigan USA

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
Pete, like I said before, if you are legitimate in your claims that you make 14K a year taking surveys then I applaud you. I also started my site because I felt scammed after paying for a list and I remain true to offering the list for free. There are too many people out there trying to get people to their site so they can make money off their site and I am still very dedicated to protecting people from those and other scams. I do not offer any of the survey sites on my list that I feel are not legitimate. I also offer the list of mystery shopping companies for free. I know a LOT of people who have been taking the surveys for a very long time and also doing the product testing and focus groups and mystery shopping and I don't believe any of them are making even close to a thousand dollars a year. I would just ask if you are legitimate, please explain to us how you do it. I personally don't even qualify for about a third of the surveys I am offered. I can see this happening in mystery shopping since you do get better jobs after you have done a lot of the lower paying ones. In what area do you make the greatest percentage of your income from all these endeavors?
Thanks for sharing!

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
I get a good number of IT related surveys and I fill in all of the profile boosters. Mystery shopping is another one of my favorites.
How I do it is simple enough, I have the time to invest in it; If you don't you can't expect to do as well but the more you get used to it and the more opportunities you have the more you will make.
My question is how many of these market research companies databases are you in?

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
Thanks Pete,
I am registered with all of the survey companies I have listed which is 76 of them. I won't list any company I haven't personally registered with because I don't feel I should list one that I don't know anythign about. I have a list of over 400 companies though and I have offered to send the list to anyone who wants more than what I have on my website. I also have the time to do all the surveys sent to me and I have also done all the profile enhancers and encourage everyone who signs up to do the same. Today I have had 7 survey opportunities. Only one offered a cash incentive and that was for $2. One offered points and I encourage everyone to do the point surveys because you can convert your points to cash or prizes. The rest offered the chance to be entered into a drawing. I am not so big on those ones although I do take them because I know these companies will eventually offer cash incentives once they know you are reliable. I suppose my point is, I have NEVER had offers to take surveys from more than the same, possibly 10 survey companies. A lot of the companies that are out there will want you take surveys and be involved in focus groups but they are mostly for people in large metropolitan areas. I live in Boise ID, this is not a little town it is a city but there are no focus groups available as of yet. Unless you are in a large city where the focus groups are available you will not make thousands or even hundreds of dollars a month doing surveys alone. This is what got me started on this thread to begin with. I believe we should be VERY honest with all of the people who are thinking about doing this and what they can expect. I don't know where you are in the country but I am glad that you have been able to make a decent amount of money from this. I think the average person though can only expect to make some decent spending/christmas money from taking surveys and can expect to try out some great products for free and have a lot of fun.

This is what got me started on this thread to begin with. I believe we should be VERY honest with all of the people who are thinking about doing this and what they can expect."
This is simply not true!
It is true that focus groups pay more but I have taken two surveys in the past week that rewarded me $60 and $100 respectively and while the TOS will not allow me to mention which companies they are I can state that one is listed on my front page and the other is listed on page four.
I am currently a member of hundreds of these market research companies and that may be why I seem to receive a superior reward value and higher volume of survey offers.
Perhaps the secret is to become a member of the most obscure of these market research companies and you might have a healthier outlook regarding this project.
I too have a larger database than I have yet posted, about twice the number of companies I currently have listed, 245 at last count, and I have signed up with all but eight of those!
There will be updates on a daily basis.
Thanks Connie!
p.s. Note the time of my posting, it's 5:27 AM eastern and I’ve been up doing research on these companies for an hour and I used to get obsessed with horse racing this way!

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
I make good money off pay surveys. I simply joined a free survey site, copypaste datebase, created a pay site using thier database, and sold it for $34.95 a pop. Orders coming in, and all good.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
If that's true and they have an internet copyright as most do, I got one the day I started my site. The search engines would be able to find your “copy paste” method within days this is something they’re really concerned with these days and you will not only be automatically banned from all search engines but a possible fine of $500.000 and jail time are also likely.
My guess is that you joking because your IP address was logged here and that would make finding you in a few hours a breeze.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
The vast majority of any that you come across are legit, (just make sure you don't pay for one of those lists, you can get the same info free and they highly inflate the amount of cash you can make). The one's that aren't are usually pretty easy to spot. They usually have questions like "Would you like to recieve special offers for car insurance". Pretty much if they want your permission to let people other then them, to send you email, then look the other way. The reason why a lot of people don't think other are legite, is that a vast majority won't send you but a few surveys per year or maybe once a month. Therefore, people sign up for them and then don't hear from them for a while, so they think it's a scam. Patience grasshopper, they will come, thus the reasoning behind signing up for a bunch of sites.
Anyways, here's a program that will help you signup for sites: http://www.roboform.com/ You can download the trial version (which will work fine for signing up for sites) for free.
If you'd like some more tips and advice and info, I would suggest checking http://freepaidsurveys.net/files/surveyinfo.html
Good Luck

Is it a SCAM? It sounds like a scam when they say they pay you out $5000 and it takes about 40 days to reach that amount. DONT tell me what I'm thinking. I've heard people have got paid by them. I don't know if they're lying. So if anyone know anything about them please let me know. My email address is : kamyar_ji@yahoo.com
Thanx in advance

Well, kamichcevy, I can't say that they're scammers; so we'll call them a baiting site.
They make outrageous claims for the purpose of luring in thousands of gullible people on the vacant promise of giant sums of money with little effort.
This certainly applies to many in the paid to read (PTR) industry. So with a lot of sites this is the case, what is good one day may be bad the next. The program that pays one week may be vanishing the next week.
It’s a good idea to stick with the staples when considering these PTR’s.
I list some honest paid to read email sites

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
The paid to read programs are not a scam either but of course everything has its quirks! Typically most paid to read emails programs will pay you but some only pay in banner advertising and others pay cash and or banner advertising. To give you an idea of what to expect: I personally love inbox dollars and have been with them for over a year. I read every email they sent for a year and just about two months ago I had enough saved up ($10) to get banner advertising. This actually makes sense when you think about it.... how many pennies do you need to make a dollar? You would need to read one hunded emails just to get a dollar. All of the emails are just advertisements and with some companies you have to look at the email for a specific amount of time before you are credited, usually 20 secs or so, with others you have to click on a link to verify you read it. It does get kind of tedious after awhile. The paid to surf programs are very similar in that you have to spend a certain amount of time looking at a site before you can collect money and again you have to look at a LOT of sites to make money. Remember, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is, and two: Don't believe everything you read on the internet. You won't make easy money, clicking on sites, reading emails etc. You can take surveys and mystery shop and make some pretty good cash but it won't be thousands of dollars a month.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam?? (Pay pal scam Alert)
No problem Kamichevy, I hope I was helpful.
Wandering off that subject for a second, I received this email at 9:45 AM Est. this morning.
"Dear Paypal valued member,

If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your online experience and renew
your records you will not run into any future problems with the online service.
However, failure to update your records will result in account suspension
This notification expires on February 30, 2005.

service will not be interrupted and will continue as normal.
Please follow the link below and login to your account

But clicking on the PayPal link took me to a scam site and had I not noticed that the site I landed at had a different domain name than paypal.com, I may have entered my email address and password, giving these criminals access to my account: BEWARE!

You are absolutely right Trigger! NEVER pay someone for the right to work for them. The only time this advice does not hold true is if you are getting into direct sales. Quite often you will have start up costs but those are not the same. With start up costs you get some

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
I joined Survey Scout, signed up with all companies in its database, and did not fit any of the profiles for surveys offered during the 90-day trial period. I requested a refund, received it promptly in my PayPal account.
If your profile is what is needed by the companies, maybe you will be able to make some money. I feel Survey Scout is an honorable company because of how I was treated.

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
Hello All,
I registered to this survey website "www.survey-platinum.com" . They promised a lot for a feee of 35 dollars. They promised that i will get surveys to do worth of upto 150 Dollars. So far i haven't got even 5 dollars from surveys. Now i am asking for a refund , they don't even reply to my emails. The postal address they have is a UPS store.
Beware of this company and never ever sign up and pay any dollar to this company.
I will not leave these guys anyways and planning to file a class action lawsuit against them. If anybody is screwed by them and wants to teach them a lesson. Please join me in filing a lawsuit against them. I will bear all charges coming out of lawsuit. I just need your support so that we can teach guys a lesson.
Email me if you are interested , at : lookingforfriend09@yahoo.com

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
Please do not pay for a paid survey list! I consider these to be somewhat helpful but a waste of money.
I have been a member of all of them and the price you pay is just far too much.
My database is larger than any of theirs and even t

Re: Is Paid Surveys a scam??
I wish there was an easy way to warn the whole internet world! NEVER ever, ever, ever pay for a list of surveys. You can get free lists (with none of the junk sites that want to sell you stuff and send you spam!) at my site, also at wahm.com and volition.com.
tons of free stuff!
