Quite a few Douglas, what does that have to do with this topic? There are plenty here who give to other charities of their choice. Just because some didn't give to the one I was asking help for doesn't slight them. The monies I raised stayed in my local city to help kids here. A lot of people would rather help kids where they live. And some who usually give to the national drive chose to help me because I knew where the money was going to be used and who benefited because I know the kids.

Shame on you Douglas. It not our place to judge another man/woman's choices. Don't devalue what was done for my by such silly questions.

The FDA does not care about your health when it comes to large corporations ability to make money. Right now there are over 15,000 chemicals of which some are addictive and some cause rapid weight gain found in most of our foods in regular grocery stores. You know, I've been active all my life. Raced bicycles, run marathons, played handball every other day for almost four decades, always watched my weight by eating low fats, reading lables and doing my best to treat my body as the proverbial temple. Kept my cholesterol under control with statins and niacine, don't smoke and drink very moderately. Now I'm recovering from a double heart bypass. My younger brother, who takes care of himself even better than me, if that's possible, had a triple bypass last summer. I have a real sh!tty family history of CAD my father and grandfather both had heart attacks at about my age. They both smoked a couple of packs a day and drank like fish so I thought they'd set the example of what not to do if you want to live a long healthy life. I still try to do my best, but it just aint fair. I'm not shrugging it off but it didn't seem to matter.

Lol. Nah I don't have an opinion actually. I know nothing about diet or what the difference is between sugars or carbohydrates or anything like that. Most of what I eat is home made from fresh ingredients. It's quick, its easy, it tastes good, and (most importantly for someone on a student budget) it's cheap. Don't drink coke, eat at maccas, or buy much processed stuff. I figure I'm staying fit and healthy so whatever I'm eating can't be too bad.

Ah, the sugar blues. Great book. Written in the mid seventies at the height of the american low fat fad. The author warned us that if we did not pay more attention to curbing out sugar intake than we did about our fat intake this country would be heading for a diabetes epidemic. Nobody paid attention and guess what? You got it. Type II diabetis has now run rampant throughout our obese population in america. But it's not just the sugar. It's what foods do in your body to increase your blood sugar which results in a spike in insuline which in turn leads to the pancreas losing the ability to control insuline in the blood. That's what type II diabetes is. Losing control of blood sugar levels and the body adjusting and now unable to control insuline which controls blood sugar which.........you get the idea. Before you know it, you're sticking yourself with a needle a few times a day.

How foods effect the blood suger is called the glycemic index. Foods with a high glycemic index cause a more rapid rise in blood sugar than foods with a low glycemic index. Believe it or not, a teaspoon of sugar is not at the top of the glycemic index. A baked potato with nothing on it will spike your blood suger higher and quicker than will a tablespoon of white sugar. Pasta, white bread and rice are also high on the glycemic index. The natural sugars such as fructose that are present in fruits and lactose in dairy products also are high on the index.

Yep, we all thought we were doing ourselves a favor by cutting back on fats and eating more carbohydrates loaded with sugar and look where we are today. Enjoy your steak folks.

I live in a place called Tingley Lane Mobile Estates. They have a laundry room. I notice this bag of snowmelt. Big huge letters on the front "Do not consume and if you do seek medication attention immediately".

I look at it and sure enough it looks like salt except it is not refined down. I taste it. It tastes like the exact same thing I am putting in my food. I go back home and look at the ingredients on my morton salt. I look them up in the dictionary.
