Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

Melaleuca is a SCAM.
So are its' affiliates like WomenwithDreams.com (more like women with nightmares). They post on Monster & Careerbuilder as an employer then use your information to sign yo up for this MLM scam called Melaleuca. They are very slick. I listened to their presentation & before I could blink, I was on Melaleuca's website & on a three way call with them & the Rep from WID... I had no information & told them I had to wait & speak with my husband. Not only did they ignore me, the processed paperwork on my behalf without my permission. When I called Malaleuca less than 20 minutes later, I was told that I would be automatically billed $35 a month & that it could npt be cancelled. Then, another Customer Service Rep told me I could cancel for the next month if I send a handwritten letter or fax. Long story short after three days and endless long distance phone calls - they still charged me for one month for a "Starter Kit" - which is catalogs for this company.

Caution!!!! DO NOT GO ON THEIR WEBSITE!!
By simply typing in your name you are signing a legal agreement with this company. It wouldn't stand up in a court of law - but for every sucker they pull in - they are making $35 for as many months as it takes you to figure this scam out!!This has been a nightmare... I am contacting Dateline. This is the worst MLM scam ever.
If the company was worthwhile, they would not have a problem attracting sales reps. The products are overpriced & after 3 months you have to spend $109 a month on their products!!! Overall, bad decision. I called a few Reps & they are making less than $100 a month after a lot of hard work.
Save your sanity.... :abuse:

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

WRONG and I have some doubts as to the credibility of your posting. For one thing, it's illegal to automatically ding one's account without their written permission, either through faxed, written or electronic signature. Two, there is a 3 day rule in place by law, in which a customer can legally back out of any agreement. Melaleuca is bound by that law.

They break the law every day. They also make it almost impossible to get your money back. I wouldn't waste my time warning others if this wasn't a credible post. I come from a family of Attorneys & there are numerous lawsuits against this company all the time. Others who are scammed for under 1K usually don't bother seeking legal representation due to the expense.
It is a sad situation & fraud in the clearest sense of the word.

Being from a "family of Attorneys" then you should have known better than to give your private financial information until you were sure this was a business you wanted to be involved in. Also, three day rule still applied. That's federal law and collectable in small claims court. There are always numerous lawsuits against lots of large companies, we are a sue happy nation. Geez, how incompetent are those attorneys in your family if you were unaware of identiy theft or the three day rule? I knew of these laws before I ever became a paralegal.

ROFLOL...I see you are at it again. We read and understood the first time, and the second, and the third, and the fourth...now you are at it again.

They break the law every day? Show me proof. I'll cut you some slack here and forget the first 19 years and 8 months. Please start with January 1, 2005 and list a link for every day up through April 1, 2005 that proves this. Give me daily proof.

Are you an attorney? I didn't think so.

So...who are all these people that are being scammed, but chose not to seek legal representation. Name them! Give me a list.

Why don't you and your family of attorneys sue the United States Chamber of Commerce? After all...according to them, Melaleuca is the best home based business in America.

Get a life...

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

Melaleuca is not a scam. Members of the Better Business Bureau are never scammers.

I, too, offer my email addy to any one with questions: canaryrow@yahoo.com

I am a Marketing Executive II with Melaleuca. Have been for over a year. I absolutely love the products. I was chemically injured about 20 years ago and cannot tolerate most products with chemicals, including fragrances, personal care products and household cleaners. Melaleuca products have no chemicals.

Woooooof, what a story. Too bad it's all wrong. Firstly, Melaleuca does not bill 35$ without your ordering products. Secondly, if you got products, you gave them your credit card number or checking account information yourself and agreed to it.

What happened here is that you were probably not well informed by someone who was not qualified to help you.

Too bad it was a bad experience for you

I think the fraud happens with people that think they can make a quick buck. These people act in the name of Melaleuca and misrepresent the company by their un-ethical behaviors. If you read the company policies etc.... everything is clear.

Exactly! I was shocked to learn what a few reps have been doing. There is no place in my organization for people like this!

Taking the time to build relationships and prequalifying people takes a little longer, but results in happy long-term customers. And the more educated customers are about the products, the more likely they will build.

Build a solid customer base, and the business will take care of itself.

I wish you the best with your new business, eduguy. :)

Dork..."Looks like BeCareful got owned"??? What exactly does that mean?
I did file a complaint with all authorities & Melalueca is under investigation & had to refund my monies.

This is fraud. It had been declared as such by the appropriate authorities & people like Dork should get their GED instead of spending time berating others when he clearly does not understand the issue...of FRAUD.

My advice...get a life.

I guess you're not up to date with today's slang. Seriously though, why did you even bother with an immature/petty insult like "Dork should get their GED" when the fact remains is that you don't even know who I am. Word of advice, it's not good to follow false accusations because it makes you look bad. Then again, you already dug yourself in a deep hole with your exaggerations about Melaleuca. You made things a lot worse by doing just that. But what's even more ironic is that it's your fault that is fiasco has plagued you. Dude, just read what other posters have said in comment about your accusation about Melaleuca and you'll understand what I'm saying.

In conclusion, you’re the one who needs to get a life.

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

Wanna know why I hate Malaleuca? Because I live in south Florida and, at a certain time of the year, the air smells like McDonald's french fries!!! But, that's just because I have allergies. LOL

My neighbor is a sales rep, and uses the products in her home. It's funny how my nose clogs up outside, but the Malaleuca products don't have any negative effects on me! My neighbor lives alone, so she doesn't need to buy too many refills of their products - certainly not $109 worth! A few other neighbors buy from her, too. It's like she's the "Avon Lady", but without all the perfume samples!

I wonder if BeCareful thinks Avon is a scam, too...

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

KalaMatia, please don't confuse melaleuca alternifolia with melaleuca quinquenervia. They are about as much alike as the mighty oak tree and johnson grass. The infestation of southern Florida is from melaleuca quinquenervia trees which, especially when in bloom, causes respiratory irritation, headache and nausea to some people. And contact with the bark can cause a skin rash. Melaleuca quinquenervia is on Florida's official list of noxious plants, and its cultivation and possession are prohibited by state law.

The tea tree oil produced by Melaleuca comes from the melaleuca alternifolia plant grown in the Bungawalbyn Reserve in New South Wales, Australia where the purest alternifolia can be found.

Your allergies probably act up worse when the quinquenervia is in bloom. And the reason Melaleuca's products do not have any negative effects on you is because melaleuca alternifolia actually helps rather than aggravate your condition. This is because of the following qualities of alternifolia:

* Antiseptic - Kills germs to aid the healing process.
* Soothing - Stops pain, stinging and itching.
* Penetrating- Carries benefits far below top layers of skin
* Aromatic - Soothing, therapeutic aroma can be used in vaporizers.
* Noncaustic - Will not harshly affect most skin types.
* Natural Solvent - Dissolves residue and acts as a natural cleanser and disinfectant.

Talk to your neighbor about changing your household over to Melaleuca's EcoSense products. I just bet you will see a big difference in your allergies. Ask her about the nutritionals that will also help. And stay away from melaleuca quinquenervia trees as much as possible!

You mentioned that your neighbor couldn't use $109 in products each month. Well...BeCareful is wrong. There is no criteria for purchasing that much after 3 months. I have customers who have been with me for over 6 years that still sometimes purchase the minimum. And there is never a "$109" requirement. After becoming a Director, the requirement is to purchase 75 base points in order to qualify for Director level commissions and bonuses. And depending on which products are purchased, that can be over $100 or under $80.

Sorry you have to put up with quinquenervia...especially with your allergies. I'm sure the state of Florida meant well when they had airplanes scattering millions of quinquenervia seeds over the Everglades back in the 30's in an attempt to create forests and drain the swamp. They just didn't know how invasive it could be. One tree can produce 20 million seeds each year! It will even resprout from cut stumps and burned trees, so I know it is a huge problem for southern Florida. But there is a world of difference between quinquenervia and alternifolia. :)

Thousands of people whose lives have been changed by using these products would disagree with you. And tell me this...what is so wrong with helping others earn? I would much rather have 7 other families earn from my purchases than to fill the pockets of CEO's and other top management who are already making millions, while people at the bottom doing all the work are barely surviving.

And what happens when those CEO's decide to cut back? Thousands of people at the bottom get laid off, and those at the top get millions of dollars in bonuses for making the decision. If you want to talk about pyramid schemes, take a close look at corporate America.

Melaleuca is about taking profits from the corporate giants and putting them back into the hands of families while producing better, safer products. But Melaleuca is not for everyone. It's for those who care enough about the health and well-being of their families to do something about it. And it's for those who care enough about others to show them a better way.

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

People at Corporations are not required to make monthly purchases that will total over $500 per year. Employees never have to pay one penny to join. Not only that they will most likely have health benefits and a 401k plan. I read this same propoganda when I was a rep, I did not believe it then and I don't believe it now. Does melaloooooca offer unemployment benefits?

This is another attempt to make Mela look legit. In simple terms, it is not! It is a legitimate scam. There are many scams that appear legit and this is one.

No wonder you didn't "get it"... You cannot even read and comprehend. You take two different points and roll them into one irrelevant statement. You missed the whole point.

The mention of corporations had nothing to do with employees buying from the company. Because of your idiotic statement that Melaleuca is a pyramid scheme, brendakc merely pointed out that corporate America is more like a pyramid scheme.

As for buying, she refers to buying as a consumer from Melaleuca where families share in the profits vs. buying from corporate giants that give nothing to people who refer you to their store, or recommend their products.

Do you not buy consumer cleaning, health and personal care products? If you do, then you are contributing to these corporate giants. Have you ever recommended a product to someone? Did these corporations send you a check when that person decided to try it? Absolutely not. And if you do not buy these consumer products, then you must be living like a pig.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the typical household spends $509 per year on household cleaning products. Hmmm...that alone comes to an average of $42.42 per month. Add to that personal care products. One study shows that the average household spends $680.05 per year on personal care products. And what about nonprescription drugs? Stats show the average household spends $153.81 a year. Just those 3 categories of products alone add up to $1342.86 per year, and that equals to an average of $223.81 per month!

If a Melaleuca customer spent that much per month, they would have all the cleaning products, laundry products, personal care products, nonprescription drugs, first aid products, health supplements, meal replacement bars and shakes, skin care and cosmetics they could use!

Another interesting stat...the average household uses a washing machine 264 times a year. Because Melaleuca's Mela***** costs less per use, that is an average savings of $45.94 per year on that one product alone over using Tide.

Although you totally missed the point, and your question has nothing at all to do with the points made, I will say this. Because of other projects and time constraints I have not worked my business the last three years, meaning I have not tried to enroll anyone. However...Melaleuca has paid me every month anyway somewhere around $7,000 during that time. Tell me this. If you do not show up for work for 3 years, how much will these corporations pay you? Nothing! Melaleuca has paid me well for not showing up! :D

And after not showing up at these corporations for 3 years, will you still have a job to go back to? I don't think so! On the other hand, if I decide to start working my business again tomorrow, not only do I continue to get that check, but my efforts will result in an increase in pay! It's a nobrainer!

Anyone with any common sense at all can see that Melaleuca is not a scam. Just as brendakc said, it is not for everyone. And it is obviously not for twisted minds. Get a grip, boy!

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

As usual the mela-mites respond with thousands of words to cover up the scam. They would have you believe Meladookie will save the world. I especially enjoy the ******/world saving laundry detergent. Better change my opinion now, please sign me up, and give me some of that toothpaste that tastes like dung too.

Watch out folks!! You are seeing the responses of Melapoopie's "high priests" that have successfully scammed 1000's of people. They sound so sweet and intelligent but they are motivated by $$$$$$$$$$$$$. That's all.

By the way, noone will read those long responses, they will read short ones. All they will read is SCAM. I did not read your crap and noone else will waste their time either.

This is obviously why you failed. Since you refuse to take responsibility for your own incompetency and failures, you unjustly berate the company instead.

Way to go "Truthaleuca" finally a short response. Question? If someone makes a point but noone reads it, has a point been made? Kinda like that tree falling in a forest.

It is a legitimate scam.
Employees are limited to a yearly income which rarely increases with inflation. Many are not offered retirement plans or health benefits. In fact, most aren't.

Business owners of any kind of business usually take care of their own health benefits and retirement plans. And business owners are either in business or out, there is no such thing as being unemployed.

That was a very weak argument.

Further you just said it, Melalueka is "legitimate", and the fact that you were not successful in it seems to have by all respects "colored" your opinion of the company and therefore You call it a scam. That's not exactly a valid measuring rod by which to judge the company nor it's products.

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

The government has not figured out how to shut down these scams yet, melajamooka is one of the several scams that appear legit. Jamooka reps play on people with dreams of success and sooner or later these people realize how much time and money they have wasted. Not to mention how many of their closest friends have been lost. Example--- "Hey Marcia, did Cindy try pushing some smellylooka crap on you?" Yeah, me too, man she is a wacko!!" Now I have to screen my phone calls.

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

Just to put my two cents in, I never got involved in Melaluca to make money. I like the products, I have used them for about 3 years now. If friends have ever tried them and liked them I just buy it for them. I rather use a quality, healthy product and that is exactly what Melaluca offers me. I have never been pushed to sell the product or anything like that.

There are people who want to work for big companies. Then there are those who want freedom from all the hassles, the office politics, and not to mention the drudgery.

How many self-employed people do you know pay a fortune to buy a franchise, or set aside unemployment benefits in case their enterprise goes bust, or buy from the shop next-door instead of from themselves?

As we say over here, it's a matter of horses for courses. In other words, what's suitable for one person or situation might be unsuitable for another.

Ta ta!

Good point, what works for one will not work for another, and sadly, most people won't work anyhow, so why call Mel a scam?

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

Hello, i have been researching Melaleuca for some time now. I have used the products and sat in on some of the presentations by other people. I have met a fellow making an average of 45 thousand dollars a month with Melaleuca. He is a regular guy with a 10th grade education level and a lot of money. lol
The products themselves are really the companies best aspect in my humble opinion. They are cheaper, safer, and much more enviormentally friendly.
Pretty much everything I've heard negative about this company on this board is false. and not being a director or even a product user, perhaps that will mean a little more to you skeptics out there. ( I also have no intentions of every trying to earn money through melaleuca, even though i've seen friends and family earn a few hundred, and even a few thousand here and there
I don't think its fair to call melaleuca a scam, fraud, an "MLM" or a pyramid scheme. I must admit however that the core values are similar to that of an MLM. The only difference is that you dont actually sell anything to anyone, and you don't have to ever buy products for anything other than your personal use. And a pyramid scheme IS fraud, illegal, and not even those lovely companies like mary-kay, nicole miller, or herbalife are pyramid schemes.
I do beleive that one can succeed at making a healthy salary with melaleuca, but it does require effort that most home-business dablers don't want to make. I also think that most people earning money with melaleuca are those who just tell interested friends and family about the products and then recieve checks for referrals. These checks typically dont total more than 5 thousand dollars a year. Note that these people aren't trying to build a business or become entrepeneurs, they just tell people about the products in casual conversation.

The toothpaste does taste funky!!! i must admit that. but it works and is cheap. and the mouthwash is actually quite pleasant.

I don't sell or use the products myself, and i never have any intention of selling the products or going out of my may to refer others. If someone asks where i got my natural shampoo, I'd tell them...but i wouldnt have a sit down meeting twice a week to spread the word like wildfire....Looking at their sales charts from 3rd party companies, it seems like the word is being spread fast enough by others lol.

Ted

LOL The first time I tasted the toothpaste, I didn't particularly care for it, but after using it a few times I did. After I had been using it for awhile, I visited a friend and forgot to pack my toothpaste, so I had to use my friend's Crest. Yuk!! I had used nothing but Crest all my life until I started using Melaleuca's, but tasting it after getting used to my Mela toothpaste, I couldn't stand the taste!!

The Mela toothpaste is my nephew's favorite Mela product.

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

MELALEUCA and MOMSWIN and affiliates are a pyramid, fraud scheme as a stay-at-home business opportunity.

It is true that melaleuca alternifolia has many awesome antiseptic properties and such, however, this ingredient is available in MANY products, not just highly priced Melaleuca brand products.

If the affiliated companies are NOT SCAMS, why does Melaleuca PROHIBIT these organizations from mentioning the companies at all?!?!
Simple, because Melaleuca (as overpriced as they are) IS a legitimate company that would prefer no affiliation with any pyramid scheme/MLM companies such as MOMSWIN, Womenwithdreams,The Mom Team, Mom Execs, IMoms, Moms Make More, Moms For Life, I Want To Be A Work at Home Mom, Stayin Home N Lovin It, Stay Home And Win, Home Biz Moms, Women With Dreams, Your Family First,Inspiring Parents, The ***** Of One, Safe Home Biz, Home Biz Execs, Prospering From Home, and Four Point Consultants.
Other support companies (for other than moms) include Choice Horizons, New Horizons, Advancing Lives, Winning With Us, On Fire Team, Life Time Business, Life Time Wealth And Health, 123 Cash For Life, 4 Your Freedom, Freedom 4 Life,We Win Together, Success In Life, Dot Com Team, Natural Home, FBMK Centerprizes, CBC Enterprises, Capestone Services, and Begin Your Future Now.

So if you love your Melaleuca products, keep spending that high dollar on them. And if you do want to spend $50-60 a month on the stuff (EXTREMELY hard to do with a one-person household...), then maybe the business is for you. If you are looking for a legitimate business, however, STEER CLEAR OF MELALEUCA.

There is a definite reason that Melaleuca will not let you mention their name when trying to recruit newbies to your pyramid scheme. Melaleuca also needs you to purchase every month to ensure that their company doesn't go under.

I was defrauded by MOMSWIN (a Melaleuca business affiliate).
I purchased a career pack over a year and a half ago and still have many, many unopened or partially used products (even daily products...).
If I had attempted to purchase $55 a month of products, I would be buried in Melaleuca products by now!!!

In addition to not being able to mention the product name and being contractually obligated to a $55 month purchase, MOMSWIN and affiliates do indeed wish you to spam message boards, websites and everywhere you possibly can. You must pay for advertising out of your pocket if you are unable to recruit people by freely spamming. They also require you to have a fax machine, 3 lines on your phone, and quite a bit of long distance coverage. Of course, this is held back until they have your money in their pocket.

Why so many affiliated companies, you wonder?
Many are actually one and the same (MOMSWIN and ChoiceHorizons, for example). MOMSWIN has been around too long though and is known to the message boards and websites... Many, many websites will not allow any advertisement by said company (MOMSWIN, in this example), thus they must continually develop affiliated companies under a new name in order to recruit more folks into their fraudulent community.

Just do a search for said company with fraud inserted and see what you come up with.

Search "momswin melaleuca fraud" or "vandersloot fraud" or "vandersloot scam" and decide for yourself...

The fact that you still have unopened products after a year and a half says a lot about you. ROFLOL Only ONE of any particular product is included in the Career Pack. That means you have not even opened the products to try them! Wow! What a testimonial!!

And for the record, I am a one-person household that has been using the products for over 6 years, and I don't have products stockpiled.

You have posted nothing but a twisted pack of lies.

At least one of the domain names you posted is not a Melaleuca team site. I know for a fact because it belongs to someone VERY close to me.

Oh...and by the way...I do recognize your writing style. Grow up!!!

Rkiz,

Your quote that "BBB members are never scammers" is completely inaccurate!

I have had the misfortune of dealing with many BBB members who have scammed me or my freinds.

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

I met with a rep and listened to his pitch. He shared his earnings statements and showed me the products in the catalogues and all the marketing literature that they put out and he explained clearly how it all works. Seems all above board to me. I didn't sign, because we are a small household and I didn't use the amount of product that they automatically bill you for. What turned me off was the mandatory bill amount each month. I probably would have ordered some of their product if I could have done so on an as need basis, and then if I liked it and believed the testimonials, I probably would have ordered more. Any auto billing for consumables gives me pause. Services like electricity, cable or phone are an entirely different issue. :D

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

My former neighbor let me try some of her products recently because she was sick of the stuff. The laundry detergent didn't remove simple dirt from my husband's socks. The presoak was like soaking clothes in *****...didn't loosen stains. Everthing was rewashed with Gain and came out clean. The multipurpose cleaning product had such an awful smell it gave me a headache. I think my neighbor said something about it have "Melaleuca" in it which, as I understand, is tea tree oil. HOWEVER, the bathtub cleaner was remarkable and is simply the best product I ever tried. It is not worth joining for one product since I find MLM disgusting and would never partake in this type of activity. I have a career and peddling household products or should I say "memberships" isn't my thing. MLM...although legal is nothing more than a scam in my opinion. Those minimums as explained to me are absurd. My neighbor's household is small, like ours (2 adults) and for the first few months she was ordered other items. After that she cancelled her membership since there was nothing else she wanted to try. She recently dumped all the household products at the haz-mat collection site.

The products appear overpriced although the rep told my neighbor they would be saving money. She didn't see it and in the end she saw herself spending more because she had to pop for that Melaleuca bill every month.

I know some people swear by these product and to each their own. I think it is a waste and the MLM angle leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

The BBB does not take complaints of people who make dumb buying decsions and don't read contracts or can't afford a product and know have buyers remorse..

Whoa! Hold on there, podna! It sounds like you might be mistaken about which company made those products. That laundry detergent has been keeping my clothes clean for many moons now. The last time I smelled my multi-purpose cleaner, about 2 days ago, it had a fresh clean smell. Now, I do have to agree with you 'bout that tub cleaner. This is some good stuff.

I'm just a little puzzled, though. You said the presoak was like soaking clothes in *****. Now chica, I'm not too sure what your point in posting here was, but you just gave yourself away. You see, Chica, you just unzapped your cover. Now listen up, podna!

Melaleuca does not make a presoak!

So the next time you want to run a company's products down, maybe you should check to make sure you know what products they make.

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

It is good to see that some people have had some good success in Melaleuca. I believe that any one who wants to work hard and believes in their products, will have success. Myself, I still have a problem with the fact that Melaleuca has fluoride available in some of their toothpastes. A true health and wellness company would never endorse such a toxin such as that. They instead take a stand and lead by example by not using it in any of their products at all. The whole purpose of a Health and Wellness company is to be offering things that are safer and healthier for people and environment. They are on their way, but not there just yet. Changes have yet to be made. At least they are using Xylitol as an artificial sweetner instead of Aspartame, sucralose, maltitol, mannitol, dextrose, mal todextrin, saccharin,or glucose. I am sure there are more. I know my friend who is in Melaleuca had some kids vitamins which contained sorbitol as an ingredient. I looked on the website tonight to see if there is access to ingredients listings but only some are available. It appears that they MAY have switched to xylitol. Good for them. They are making progress if that is the case.

Melaleuca uses fructose (sugar equivalent of one grape) in most of their products. Xylitol is used in the children's toothpaste, and is not an artificial sweetener.

Xylitol is a normal part of everyday metabolism. Our bodies produce up to 15 grams of xylitol from other food sources. Some of the best sources are fruits, berries, mushrooms, lettuce, hardwoods, and corn cobs. One cup of raspberries contains less than one gram of xylitol. In the amounts needed to prevent tooth decay (less than 15 grams per day), xylitol is safe for everyone.

The amount of flouride is a very small ppm. Anything over 1000 ppm is not safe, if swallowed.

Actually, fructose exists in fruits, real, natural fructose that is. In the food industry, I found out that it is something totally different. It is corn syrup. Cheap cheap cheap. That's why they use it. Bad for diabetics as well. Worse than glucose according to one doctor. Which is a sad statement considering glucose is a synthetic.( one lady with her child told me it was a chemical and that her child cannot have anything with glucose in it) So when you see any juice on the market with fructose on the label, it isn't from fruit (because we don't list what comprises fruit right? just whether it is apple juice from concentrate etc..)
Now Xylitol from my research is probably the safest out of all the artificial sweeteners, like i posted above, good for Melaleuca that they are using that instead of many available out there. Once again you seem to mistaken the fact that when it comes to food manufacturing it always is the cheaper route with most companies :

"XYLITOL - A BETTER ALTERNATIVE TO SUGARLESS GUM?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Xylitol is a naturally occurring sweetener that is found in raspberries,
strawberries, and plums, corn, endive, and mushrooms. The human
body produces xylitol in its daily metabolic processes. Xylitol is
manufactured by extracting xylan from birch wood or corn cobs, and
reacting it with ***** to produce xylose or "wood sugar." Hydrogen
(H2) is then added to make 'Xylitol.'
Where and when was xylitol discovered?
The wood sugar xylose was first hydrogenated to produce xylitol in
1891 by the German chemist Emil Fischer. Xylitol has been used since
the 1960s in the Soviet Union, Germany, Switzerland and Japan as the
preferred sweetener for diabetics. Xylitol is also used intravenously for
patients with impaired glucose tolerance, i.e. for trauma, burns, and in
diabetic and insulin resistance. Xylitol's dental benefits were first
studied in Finland. In the early 1970s, researchers at Turku University
showed xylitol could prevent dental caries.
How is Xylitol different than other sweeteners?
Xylitol is a "sugar alcohol." Chemically, sucrose (sugar), fructose,
sorbitol and glucose all have six carbon atoms in their molecules.
Xylitol has five carbon atoms in its molecule. Six carbon molecules can
be easily digested by oral bacteria but a five-carbon molecule has
strong chemical bonds that are very difficult for bacteria to digest. So
when xylitol is consumed, these bacteria populations starve out and
decline. This is one way xylitol helps prevent plaque and cavities and
why it is a better choice for sugarless gums.
Xylitol has the same sweetness as sugar but with 40% less calories.
Xylitol's functional properties are similar to sugar; it dissolves slower at
cold temperatures but faster than sugar above 86 degrees F. (http://www.xylipro.com/faq.html)

So, is xylitol a better sugar-free choice for a sweetener, especially in
chewing gum? Probably, but all in all, you are better off with the real
thing - using no sugar or natural unprocessed sugar whenever possible.
Especially for children. " Dr. Janet Starr Hull, Ph.D., CN

So Xylitol is the better alternative of the artificail sweetners, but a Health and Wellness company should not be using it at all. but I will give Mela credit for at least using the lesser of the evils available. They should really look at using Stevia if they want something natural that is way sweeter than sugar as well. In Japan, it comprises 41% of their sweetener market.

Where do you get these ideas???

Corn syrup is a liquid that is a combination of maltose, glucose, and dextrose, and it is obtained from corn.

What you are referring to is HFCS (high fructose corn syrup), which is made from genetically modified corn and then it is processed with genetically modified enzymes. It is derived from cornstarch, usually a combination of 55 percent fructose and 45 percent sucrose. It is treated with an enzyme that converts glucose to fructose, which results in a sweeter product. And yes, it is used in a lot of drinks and foods.

Melaleuca does not use HFCS! They use fructose, which is the naturally occurring sugar in all fruits.

Fructose can be extracted, turned into granules and used like sugar in the kitchen. It is sweeter than table sugar, so less is needed to achieve the same taste. Diabetics use it because fructose doesn't stimulate insulin production, so blood sugar levels remain stable. It can also be used in other products, and is what Melaleuca uses.

Please do not make statements such as this, or keep Melaleuca out of it when you do. There is a big difference between HFCS and fructose.

Plaque bacteria in our mouth digests sugar, producing acid as a result. It is this acid which eats into tooth enamel to create cavities. Bacteria can not utilize Xylitol, so the growth of plaque bacteria is inhibited.

So this is most likely why Melaleuca uses Xylitol in the toothpaste and chewing gum, along with melaleuca alternifolia. Fructose is used in the other products.

As for stevia, it is not on the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) list for use as an additive in food.

"The amount of flouride is a very small ppm. Anything over 1000 ppm is not safe, if swallowed. "

Your above quote.
So exactly what is the ppm they are using in Mela toothpastes?

Why does it only have to be swallowed to be harmful? Would you brush your teeth with toothpaste with a small ppm of arsenic? probably not. Do you not believe that our mouth and gums absorb? If you don't believe that I guess that chewing tobacco is just a scam and all those people that use it out there aren't really getting any buzz from using it. Doesn't cause mouth cancers or anything either

Are you aware of the source of most fluorides? And are you aware of the recent Environmental Protection Agency's recent review and are recommending a moratorium on fluoride, now that they have found a direct link to cancer with its use? I hope you are not defending fluorides' use. I will bury you with the truth on this toxic poison. Being in health and wellness and trying to help people while promoting fluoride is an oxymoron. You should know better. I wil help you with this as you will see below.

There are more recent studies available to look over and see for yourself. Look in the dictionary look up "Fluorosis" and tell me what you see. Fluoride because of its toxic source is causing dental fluorosis as well as skeletal fluorosis. And this is not just because of fluoridating the ***** but it sure doesn't help any! Bones are becoming more brittle because of this poison. And we are being told to drink more milk because it's osteoporosis. In my opinion, I think that Fluoride exposure is what most bone problems are associated with.
I leave you with the following quotes:
Paul Connett, PhD
Professor of chemistry

Article from April 12,2004
50 reasons to oppose fluoridation

"Fluoride is not an essential nutrient (NRC 1993 and IOM 1997). No disease has ever been linked to a fluoride deficiency. Humans can have perfectly good teeth without fluoride."

" Fluoridation is not necessary. Most Western European countries are not fluoridated and have experienced the same decline in dental decay as the US (see data from World Health Organization in Appendix 1, and the time trends presented graphically at http://www.fluoridealert.org/who-dmft.htm)The reasons given by the countries for not fluoridating are presented in Appendix 2"

"Where Fluoridation has been discontinued in communities from Canada, the former East Germany, Cuba and Finland, dental decay has not increased but has actually decreased (Maupome 2001;Kunzel and Fischer,1997,2000;Kunzel 2000 and Seppa 2000)"

"Fluoride is a cumulative poison. On average, only 50% of the fluoride we ingest each day is excreted through the kidneys. The remainder accumulates in our bones, pineal gland, and other tissues. If the kidney is damaged, fluoride accumulation will increase, and with it , the likelihood of harm"

"When complexed with aluminum, fluoride interferes with G-proteins (Bigay 1985,1987). Such interactions give aluminum-fluoride complexes the potential to interfere with many hormonal and some neurochemical signals (Stunecka & Patocka 1999,Li 2003)"

" Fluoride has shown to be a mutagenic, cause chromosome damage and interfere with the enzymes involved with DNA repair in a variety of cell and tissue studies (Tsutsui 1984; Caspary 1987; Kishi 1993 and Mihashi 1996). recent studies have also found a correlation between fluoride exposure and chromosome damage in humans (Sheth 1994; Wu 1995; Meng 1997 and Joesph 2000)"

" Rats fed for one year with 1 ppm fluoride in their *****, using either sodium fluoride or aluminum fluoride, had morphological changes to their kidneys and brains, an increased uptake of aluminum in the brain, and the formation of beta amyloid deposits which are the characteristic of Alzheimers disease (Varner 1998)"

"In the first half of the 20th century, fluoride was prescribed by a number of European doctors to reduce the activity of the thyroid gland for those suffering with hyperthyroidism(over active thyroid) (Stecher 1960; Waldbott 1978). With ***** fluoridation, we are forcing people to drink a thyroid-depressing medication which could, in turn, serve to promote higher levels of hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) in the population, and all the subsequent problems related to this disorder. Such problems include depression, fatigue, weight gain, muscle and joint pains, increased cholesterol levels, and heart disease."

"Some of the early symptoms of skeletal fluorosis, a fluoride-induced bone and joint disease that impacts millions of people in India, China, and Africa, mimic the symptoms of arthritis (Singh 1963;Franke 1975; Teotia 1976; Carnow 1981; Czerwinski 1988; DHHS 1991). According to a review on fluoridation by Chemical and Engineering News, ' Because some of the clinical symptoms mimic arthritis, the first two clinical phases of skeletal fluorosis could be easily misdiagnosed' (Hileman 1988). Few if any studies have been done to determine the extent of this misdiagnosis, and whether the high prevalence of arthritis in America (1 in 3 Americans have some form of arthritis-CDC,2002) is related to our growing fluoride exposure, which is highly plausible. The causes of most forms of arthritis (e.g. osteoarthritis) are unknown."

"In some studies, when high doses of fluoride (average 26 mg per day) were used in trials to treat patients with osteoporosis in an effort to harden their bones and reduce fracture rates, it actually led to a HIGHER number of fractures, particularly hip fractures (Inkovaara 1975;Gerster 1983;Dambacher 1986; O'Duffy 1986; Hedlund 1989; Bayley 1990;Gutteridge 1990.2002;Orcel 1990;Riggs 1990 and Schnitzler 1990) The cumulative doses used in these trials are exceeded by the lifetime cumulative doses being experienced by many people living in fluoridated communities."

"The only government-sanctioned animal study to investigate if fluoride causes cancer, found a dose-dependent increase in cancer in the target organ (bone) of the fluoride-treated (male) rats(NTP 1990). The initial review of this study also reported an increase in liver and oral cancers, however, all non-bone cancers were later downgraded-with a questionable rationale-by a government review panel (Marcus 1990). In light of the importance of this study, EPA Professional Headquarters Union has requested that Congress establish an independent review to examine the study's results (Hirzy 2000)."

"Fluoridation is unethical because individuals are not being asked for their informed consent prior to medication. This is standard practise for all medication, and one of the key reasons why most of Europe has ruled against Fluoridation (see Appendix 2)."

"Since 1950, it has been found that fluorides do little to prevent pit and fissure tooth decay, a fact that even the dental community has acknowledged (Seholle 1984;Gray 1987; PHS 1993; and Pinkham 1999). This is significant because pit and fissure tooth decay represents up to 85% of the tooth decay experienced by children today (Seholle 1984 and Gray 1987)."

"Sodium Fluoride is an extremely toxic substance--just 200mg of fluoride is enough to kill a young child, and just 3-5 grams(e.g. a teaspoon) is enough to kill an adult. Both children(swallowing tablets/gels) and adults (accidents involving fluoridation equipment and filters on dialysis machines) have died from excess exposure."

"Studies by Masters and Coplan(1999,2000) show an association between the use of fluorosilicic acid (and its sodium salt) to fluoridate ***** and an increased uptake of lead into children's blood. Because of lead's acknowledged ability to damage the child's developing brain, this is a very serious finding, yet it is being largely ignored by fluoridating countries."

"Some of the earliest opponents of fluoridation were biochemists and at least 14 Nobel Prize winners are among numerous scientists who have expressed their reservations about the practise of fluoridation (see Appendix 4)."

"Many scientists, doctors, and dentists who have spoken out publicly on this issue have been subjected to censorship and intimidation (Martin 1991). Most recently, Dr.Phyllis Mullenix was fired from her position as Chair of Toxicology at Forsythe Dental Center for publishing her findings on fluoride and the brain; and Dr. William Marcus was fired from the EPA for questioning the government's handling of the NTP's fluoride-cancer study (Bryson 2004). Tactics like thiswould not be necessary if those promoting fluoridation were on secure scientific ground."

I have plenty more, there are 50 of 'em. I have all the appendixes as well if you want it emailed to you. This is just one of my sources, there are many more, but this one presents a strong enough case I would imagine. In his conclusion he says at the end; "...public health policy must be based on sound science not political expediency. They have a tool with which to do this: it's called the Precautionary Principle. Simply put, this says:if in doubt leave it out. This is what most European countries have done and their children's teeth have not suffered while their public's trust has been strengthened."

Re: Avoid all Melaleuca related scams. FRAUD!!!

My closing argument; Melaleuca has fluorides in some of their toothpastes. As mentioned in the quotes above, it is a cumulative poison. Even using small amounts add up. They do sell ones without fluoride but the point is this. If they research ALL of their ingredients and use only the best ones, why is fluoride even around any of their products? These guys have been around for what 18 years? Plenty of time they could have researched this a little better. AS you saw the dates on those studies, they had access to it if they wanted them.
This leads me to believe I cannot trust a company who would do such a thing. What other wool will they pull over peoples' eyes? For that aspect, they are scamming people into believing their word only. If a company is not 100% the truth and up front, how much BS are you willing to shovel ? Can you look people in the eye and say with asssurance that they are good? More BS? ok I'll go get the backhoe and dumptruck.
