TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran opened a conference on Monday to examine the Holocaust and question whether Nazi Germany used gas chambers to kill Jews, drawing condemnation in the West and criticism from Iran's Jewish community.
Jewish rabbis were present at the government-sponsored event "Review of the Holocaust: Global Vision" alongside academics from Europe, where some countries have made it a crime to deny the Nazi killing of 6 million Jews from 1933 to 1945.
"The aim of this conference is not to deny or confirm the Holocaust," Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said in a welcome address. "Its main aim is to create an opportunity for thinkers who cannot express their views freely in Europe about the Holocaust."

The event, which Iran has said will question whether gas chambers were actually used against the Jews, has drawn widespread criticism from Holocaust survivors, Jewish organizations, human rights groups and Western governments.
Sessions at the two-day conference, held at the Foreign Ministry's Institute for Political and International Studies, were to include "Holocaust: Aftermath and Exploitation" and "Demography: Denial or Confirmation?"
The conference was inspired by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who since coming to ***** in August 2005 has sparked international condemnation with comments referring to the Holocaust as a "myth" and calling Israel a "tumor".
Among the participants was U.S. academic David Duke, a former Louisiana Republican Representative. He praised Iran for hosting the event.
"There must be freedom of speech, it is scandalous that the Holocaust cannot be discussed freely," Duke, a former Ku Klux Klan leader told Reuters. "It makes people turn a blind eye to Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people."

i dont understand....they want to "question whether or not gas chambrs were used"???
so if they "decide" no chambers were used, does that mean no railway cars were packed full of jews/gays/gypsies and shipped off to concentration camps??? are they really just trying to debunk the gas chamber part, like that would even matter??? read albert speers autobiography, he'll tell you what you want to know, and i dont think he is lying....

I really don't get the point of things like this. OK, lets say gas chambers weren't used. 6 million people were still killed.
This reminds of a conversation I once had with a person who believed that the amount of people killed in the holocausts was exagerrated. He was citing some paper that illustrated how there was only 3 million or so jews in Europe before the holocausts so how could 6 million jews have been killed (or whatever the "official" number is). My response was "Ok lets say your right, 3 million people were systematically exterminated by a government. Doesn't make it any less horrific. Call me crazy but even 100,000 people is pretty bad to me."

thats what i dont get either. they really just want to disprove one part of the whole holocaust?? it doesnt make any sense...there is no denying that millions of people, mostly jews, were killed simply becuase they were jews.

I thought the whole point was the fact that a lot of people are saying the Zionist jews gave up the european jews and helped the Nazi government exterminate them to create sympathy for the jewish cause and to help them get an Isralie state after the war. I'm not saying this is true, but this is one of the arguments I've heard.

Wow, that is definetely a "theory". I'm in no way an expert on this subject, This is my personal feeling, in no way a fact. Then major flaw is see is everybody kind of knew the holocausts were happening even before the Allies liberated the camps just really didn't want to accept it until they really had no other choice.
My opinion is that up to that time in history the jews weren't really shown all that sympathy to begin with. Using the thinking at that time according to my assumption, why would Zionist jews think giving up the european jews would get them a country out of it. To the rest of the world wasn't really a fan of jews period, whether Zionist or European.

As long as they are spending money on useless conferences, that's less money they have, going to the nuke program? The next conference can be on the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, and finding the elusive honest politician? That should set their nuke program back to about 3010?
