Lebanon warns against inciting Israel

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Lebanon's defense minister said Sunday he is certain Hezbollah will not break the cease-fire but warned all militant groups of harsh measures and a traitor's fate if they incite Israeli retaliation by firing rockets into the Jewish state.

Defense Minister Elias Murr's strong remarks indicated concern that Syrian-backed Palestinian militants might try to restart the fighting by drawing retaliation from Israel.

While that's all fine, look what is said later:

The Lebanese defense minister insisted that Hezbollah would hold its fire.

"We consider that when the resistance (Hezbollah) is committed not to fire rockets, then any rocket that is fired from the Lebanese territory would be considered collaboration with Israel to provide a pretext (for Israel) to strike," Murr said.

He added that "the Lebanese army will decisively deal with" any attack on Israel and that anyone arrested for violating the truce "will be considered by the military tribunal as an agent of the Israeli enemy."

In other words, even if Hesbollah fires a rocket into Israel, they are going to say it was Israel doing it to envoke a responce
WTF?????

The Lebanese government has given Hezbollah a free pass to fire rockets. They are playing on the assumption that if Hezbollah fires a rocket, it's because Israel somehow made them do it...... Uhh... Right... I doubt the anti-Israel crowd will even consider that a possiblity. In their eyes, if Hezbollah fires a rocket.... Israel somehow made them do it.... Uhh... Right...

Re: Lebanon warns against inciting Israel

I think Israel is too busy to be thinking of any of that stuff. :D

Welcome to Israel, after the war.

With a ceasefire in Israel's bitter battles with Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas in effect for nearly a week, Israeli media have turned the spotlight on a series of scandals.

No criminal charges have been filed in any of the cases. But suspicions of sleaze at the top have darkened the public mood in Israel, where many have begun to question their leaders' conduct of a costly month-long conflict in Lebanon.

Some of the allegations:

-- A former employee at the official residence of President Moshe Katsav says he coerced her into having sex with him. Katsav has denied the woman's allegations, which police are investigating. The scandal is unlikely to have any significant political impact as Katsav's post is largely ceremonial.

-- Justice Minister Haim Ramon announced on Friday he would resign after the attorney general said he was considering indicting the veteran politician over allegations by a former government employee that he forcibly kissed her.

A Justice Ministry statement said the woman accused Ramon of "kissing her on the lips while inserting his tongue without her consent." Ramon denied the charges and said he would prove his innocence in court.

-- Israel's top government watchdog has confirmed it is examining the terms of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's purchase of a Jerusalem apartment for $1.2 million in 2004.

The state comptroller's office said it has not finished looking into the case. The prime minister's office has reserved comment, pending an official approach on the matter by the comptroller.

Olmert's popularity has already taken a beating in the polls, part of a public backlash over his handling of a war in Lebanon that failed to deal a fatal blow to Hezbollah or stop nearly 4,000 rockets from hitting northern Israel.

Re: Lebanon warns against inciting Israel

In case anyone hasn't noticed yet... Hezzbolah IS presently the govern-

ment of Lebanon. Has been for some time. It is just that the Lebanese

people at large have not woke up to this fact yet and obviously the

non-hezzbolah faction politicans/Lebanese 'leaders' are in denial.

It is said that Syria was instrumental in the assissination of the

previous Lebanese P.M. when in reality it was Hezzbolah that was responsible

for his murder.

Hezzbolah is the puppet and military arm extension of the nation of Iran.

From ALL recent developments and activity concerning/involving Iran, it

is obvious that Iran is installing itself as the eventual super-power of

the middle east.

It could very well be that the entire Lebanon/Hezzbolah situation was

a skirmish to engage Israel in hostilities to camoflauge Iran's working toward

establishing Nuclear weapons capability. Not just one weapon, but perhaps

up to a dozen or so and the capability of delivering these weapon long-

range on ballistic missiles, of which Iran already has this capability.

I think Iran already has nuclear weapons. Just establishing a stock-pile

in preparation for the "big-one'! MAinly to attack and annilate the nation

of Israel. Lest anyone forget, Israel also has Nuclear weapons. If under

the threat of nuclear attack, Israel could very well assume the 'wounded-

animal reaction wherein all stops are out and anything goes.

Want your Armageddon? Here's the potential...

Iran tests tactical missile during war games
DailyStar.net

Iran test-fired a short-range missile yesterday during the second day of nationwide military exercises in a demonstration of its readiness to "respond to any threat," state television reported.

The surface-to-surface missile, called Saegheh or lightning in Farsi, has a range of between 80 and 250km.

"The upgraded Saegheh missiles have been tested today," Iranian Brigadier General Kiumars Heydari was quoted as saying.

"Surface-to-surface as well as surface-to-sea missiles built by domestic defence industries with considerable range, high precision and large production numbers, will enable us to prevent any type of threat."

The missile was test-fired from Kashan, 200 kilometres (120 miles) south of the capital Tehran as part of the massive war games which began Saturday with the aim of testing new weapons and tactics against a potential enemy.

The enemy has gone insane

"The enemy has gone insane because of the capabilities of Lebanon's Hezbollah," army chief Major General Ataollah Salehi was quoted as saying by official news agency IRNA Saturday, referring to the Shia group which was locked in a 34-day conflict with Israel untill a ceasefire last week.

"And given the insane enemy's history, we should always be prepared," he said

I think that's about the strength of it. Be Prepared, taking a bit of advice from the Boy Scouts.

Iran defiant as nuclear deadline nears

Iran insisted yesterday that a nuclear freeze was not on the agenda and showed off its latest weaponry, two days before it is to respond to an international offer aimed at ending the long-running crisis.

Tehran risks sanctions if it fails to abide by a UN Security Council resolution calling for a halt to uranium enrichment, a process, which creates fuel for nuclear power plants but can also be used to make the core of a bomb.

"The issue of suspension means returning to the past. It is not on the agenda of the Islamic republic of Iran," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.

Tehran is due to respond on August 22 to a package of incentives offered by major powers in return for a freeze in enrichment, amid Western fears its nuclear programme is a cover for efforts to build atomic weapons.

It's the 22nd Today!

I hope nothing happens.
