You think this is a scam?
I am the owner of a new small business and I was contacted randomly about 5+ months ago from a guy who said he had heard about my company (suspicious?). We are now almost fully up and running and hopefully on the brink of turning a profit. I have been in contact with this guy almost every day since the first call and he is telling me that he has an investor that is interested in my product. Apparently the investor has 10+ million dollars that can be received as a repayable loan and will also get 40 percent of the company. What's suspicious is that the "guy" refuses to let me know who the investor is and is unwilling to come to my office and meet in person to negotiate (I've never met any of them). He keeps saying that in order for them to come I need to sign an agreement that they get a percent of the loan and the shares of stock up front, with the rest of the details to be decided later (interest rate, exact amount, repayment, etc.). I have told him repeatedly that I will sign an agreement saying that I will not take any money from the investor without paying his percent, but that has not been sufficient for him. Everything about it just seems suspicious to me. Also, a few weeks ago he had the idea to sell licenses to distribute my product for thousands of dollars, but I had to give him exclusive nationwide rights first. I played hardball with him and told him that was ridiculous and not an option. He eventually gave up that idea and moved onto the loan + stock that I talked about above.
Personally, I have no doubt in my mind that this is a scam. There are some people around me, however, that feel we may be missing out on a large investment to help the company. Has anyone experienced anything like this or have any idea what their angle is with this scheme? Thanks in advance for your help.
