Is paid for research a scam?

Hi:
I recently came upon an internet ad for a company called www.paidforresearch.com where it was said that one could be paid for taking part in online surveys. I've had legitimate success participating in focus groups with legitimate companies where I've been paid money. But, I have never taken part in online surveys. So, does anyone know if this company is a scam? If not, how has your experience been with them? If so, are there any legitimate companies that conduct online surveys and actually pay the respondent in financial compensation not prizes or drawings?
Thanks.

I would suggest you check out a mod here called katiescorner, she is the resident expert at work-at-home type jobs. I even believe she has a website that lists legit survey type sites and other work at home sites, just look closely at one of her posts.

If that site you found asks for a fee to connect you to these companies, then it is highly likely they are just looking for your money. If you receive anything at all from them, it will probably be only a list of websites and you have to contact each site yourself.

Just the fact that they are making promises of how much you will make should be a red flag. Secondly.. WHY do they need you to "register" and become a member? What are they going to do with your information?

My websites don't require you to give out any personal information to access the free list of survey sites and they don't include offer sites for a very good reason...
