So, what do you think?

Depends on the definition being used. If we adhere to the possible categories of vegetable, mineral or animal, then ther is nothing to debate.

Yes, humans are animals, that is un-debatable, but at the same time I hate to insult the rest of the animal kingdom...

Well I didn't say "merely" or "just". We're animals but I think animals are cool, I don't think it's a bad thing at all. The animal kingdom rules!

some of us are.

Lexx, of course, wouldn't qualify past the 'vegetable' stage. He might even be 'mineral'.

Let's look at definitions (long time members will know I love doing this :p):

Princeton Wordnet:
a living organism characterized by voluntary movement

Wikipedia:
Animals are a major group of organisms, classified as the kingdom Animalia or Metazoa. In general they are multicellular, capable of locomotion and responsive to their environment, and feed by consuming other organisms. Their body plan becomes fixed as they develop, usually early on in their development as embryos, although some undergo a process of metamorphosis later on. Biologically, human beings fall under the animal kingdom.

Merriam-Webster:
any of a kingdom (Animalia) of living things including many-celled organisms and often many of the single-celled ones (as protozoans) that typically differ from plants in having cells without cellulose walls, in lacking chlorophyll and the capacity for photosynthesis, in requiring more complex food materials (as proteins), in being organized to a greater degree of complexity, and in having the capacity for spontaneous movement and rapid motor responses to stimulation

Collins:
Any living organism characterized by voluntary movement, the possession of specialized sense organs enabling rapid response to stimuli, and the ingestion of complex organic substances.

Humans fit into all the above definitions.
