KONY2012 By INVISIBLECHILDREN.COM IS A SCAM

Kony2012 is a misleading campaign being used by ‘Invisible Children Inc’ to mislead America and the rest of the world. There are many interested groups in KONY2012 Campaign. In the USA both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party seem to have proponents and opponents But what is very sure, is that ‘Invisible Children Inc’ directors are collecting financial donations and laughing with your money all the way to the bank.

Kony2012 is a scam and fraudulent venture created by ‘Invisible Children Inc’ to enrich its directors. The name kony2012 is derived from the Ugandan Rebel Leader named 'Joseph Kony', of the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army) , who fought a brutal 23 year bush war with the Ugandan Government of Yoweri Museveni. And of course 2012 is the year of the campaign.

For the last 7 years, these guys at ‘Invisible Children’ (invisiblechildren.com) have been collecting money in the name of war displaced children of Northern Uganda and only send just about 31% of the money collected back for use in Uganda. These Ugandan children were called the “The Invisible Children of Acholi. Acholi is also the name of the tribe for which Josephy Kony is a member of. The people of Acholi Tribe were the hardest hit by this insurgency, with loss of lives estimated anywhere between 80,000 to 500,000. There has been no official estimate of how many Acholi’s died.

During the insurgency, the Ugandan Government placed most of the Acholi People in internment camps called IDP (internal displaced peoples camps) these camps were similar to Nazi like concentration camps. Many Acholi people died from diseases, malnutrition and extra judicial killings from both the LRA rebels and Ugandan Government soldiers (NRA – National resistance Army).

These camps were poorly protected by the Ugandan Government, and constantly attacked by LRA rebels who would kidnap children to enlist in their rebel army. It was during this era that you would see thousands of children walking every evening from these camps and outskirts to spend the nights on the streets of GuluTown so as to be safe from rebel attacks. It is these children who were given the name of 'invisible children'.

The charity group 'Invisible Children Inc’ started off with the benevolent intention to collect money to help these children. But in the last 3 years ‘Invisible Children’ has turned away from their original objective of charity for Africa to Charity that enriches them selves.

'Invisible Children inc' directors have become so rich, they drive in fancy cars, own fancy houses. They pay themselves a basic minimum salary of $89,000 each, if you add benefits and allowances etc, each of them could easily earn at least $150,000. And those are earnings that they are declaring legally. How about what they do not declare?

'Invisible children' directors have used the 'invisible children cause and concerts' to promote their individual music and film aspiration careers. At every major invisible children concert, these directors place ads about their music bands and film companies. Their ads very often supersede the concert cause.

What is so annoying is that, the war of Joseph Kony that the 'Invisible children Inc’ capitalized on, has since ended over 3 years a go. So with the End of the war, 'Invisible Children Inc' funding started to trickle down. They had to invent new ways to invigorate and solicit new ways of collecting funds. So In 2010, they created a new campaign called 'invisible children state side'. This campaign was to collect funds on behalf of the poor Children of Uganda and claim that they were using this money in the United States rather than sending it to Uganda. They claimed that the money raised was to be used in the United States to influence policies in Washington rather than send it to help children in Uganda. Of this money raised with the ‘state side campaign’, less than 10% was received by the children of Uganda, for which they claim to advocate for.

In 2011 they created another campaign they called 'Joseph kony LRA attacks and sitings website'. Here they also collected donations of money in the name of helping stopping Joseph kony attacks and making people aware of these attacks.

Now it is in 2012 they have conjured and created the kony2012 campaign and again cleverly have come up with the ploy that they are collecting donation money to assist in capturing Joseph kony. How are they going to use this money to capture kony? The United States Government has already sent full combat ready, 100 Elite American troops to Uganda. These American trrops in conjunction with the Armies of these African Countries; Congo, Central African republic, Uganda, and Southern Sudan are also involved in the exercise of capturing Joseph Kony. So tell me how is kony2012 money collection going to help the children of Northen Uganda? For which 'Invisible Children Inc' claims to represent?

In many circles, both in Africa and the USA, the directors of Invisible Children Inc have been accused of fraud and embezzlement. Several members of the Acholi Community in the USA had confronted Invisible Children Inc on the matter of openness and accountability. They accused them of Fraud. Instead of addressing these concerns, 'Invisible Children Inc' used donated funds raised, to hire expensive lawyers and sue any one who dared to question their accountability.

It is an open secret in Uganda that Invisible Children Inc is a scam artist Charity that bank rolls certain Ugandan politicians as well as Local Acholi Leaders. Many of these Ugandan Government Dignitaries have received Gifts of some form from Invisible Children Inc. When Invisible Children Children Inc, directors visit Uganda, they can be seen socializing in the companies of these Politicians. It is also rumored that the Acholi Tribe, Paramount chief and some Acholi members of parliament in Uganda have also been bribed or received gifts from Invisible Children Inc.Others are also saying that USA Lawmakers and USA lobbies have received funding from ‘Invisible Children Inc’. Unlike in Uganda, in the USA, It is much easier to find which USA lobbyist received money or gifts from ‘Invisible Children Inc.

What is so apparent and glaringly shocking is that only about 30% of funds collected by Invisible Children Inc, will go back to the ground to help the Ugandan Children. A quick assay of all Ugandan projects ever run and operated by Invisible Children in Uganda, will total to no more than $3,500,000 and yet they officially claim to have collected about $10,000,000 in donations. Others Claim that because over 60% of ‘Invisible Children Donations are received in cash, it is very easy to hide cash donations. An un-official estimate is that ‘Invisible Children Inc’, may have collected up to $40,000,000 in donations in the last 7 years.

Many of you are not aware that ‘Invisible children Inc' DOES NOT use an independent external Auditor. 'An invisible child Inc does not have an independent external board of directors.
There accounting and auditing is performed internally. Decision making is done by the founders who too are the directors. These directors decide how much bonus to pay themselves and what should be done with the donations collected. There is no Input from Ugandans for whom they claim to collect these donations. In a feeble attempt to seem legit, they have hired some puppet Ugandans and placed them in low and mediocre positions within the charity organization. These Ugandans have no say on decision making and are more than glad to just have a job.

Many People, both in the USA are of the mind that Invisible Children Inc should be audited by an external auditor. Some members of the Ugandan Diaspora are making an effort to have Invisible Children Inc, indicted for fraud. This effort is being hampered by certain Ugandan Government officials who are patronized by Invisible Children Inc. It is very disgusting when people enrich themselves in the name of the poor.

So why is anyone not doing any thing about it? Well you can start doing something about it by writing to your local senator, Member of Parliament or expressing your outrage in the forums at http://www.kony2012-is-a-scam.org/index.php?p=forum

or go to http://www.KONY2012-is-a-scam.org

'Invisible Children Inc' must be stopped!!!!.

Re: KONY2012 By INVISIBLECHILDREN.COM IS A SCAM

Let's set the record straight:

>only send just about 31% of the money collected back for use in Uganda

Only 1/3 of their programs are direct aid...
The other 2/3 is documentary and outreach...

>'Invisible Children inc' directors have become so rich

The 4 independent members have very successful careers outside of IC, as does one of the founders....
Only 12% goes for administarative costs, which includes ALL paid positions (which is fairly typical) ....
so, citation, please.

>What is so annoying is that, the war of Joseph Kony that the 'Invisible children Inc’ capitalized on,
>has since ended over 3 years a go.

In Uganda, yes, but Kony and the LRA is still active in Darfur, DRC, and South Sudan...

> ‘Invisible children Inc' DOES NOT use an independent external Auditor.

WRONG. Considine and Considine.

The rest of your post is repetition, rumor, and unsupported allegations like "many people have accused them of fraud"

A little bit of research research shows your errors...
If you think more money should go to "ground level" programs, donate elsewhere, but this screed is unfair.

BTW, It has been said that you, Angelebony, are actually an associate in the pay of Kony...
(Note that the above comment was illustrative of those found in Angelebony's rant)

Citation from both sides would be extremely helpful. This is an important issue that we would all like to get correct. Both of you posting need to be more professional and proficient and use citation for all of your comments when possible. Gone are the days when discerning people just take your word for it because you said it. I would really like to make and honest opinion on this. Please help me by showing me where you are getting your info from!

Re: KONY2012 By INVISIBLECHILDREN.COM IS A SCAM

Theres just so much wrong with what you're saying, it actually hurts my head to read your post. But to defend a good charity, I made the sacrifice. I'm not going to touch on every part of what you said, because most of it sounds contrived and/or opinion based. You have not substantiated any of your comments.

Here's what I have to say:

“what is very sure, is that ‘Invisible Children Inc’ directors are collecting financial donations and laughing with your money all the way to the bank”
This is an uneducated and unsubstantiated opinion. What is your basis?

For the last 7 years, these guys at ‘Invisible Children’ (invisiblechildren.com) have been collecting money in the name of war displaced children of Northern Uganda and only send just about 31% of the money collected back for use in Uganda.

Invisible Children's financial statements are online for everyone to see. Financial statements from the last 5 years, including their 990, are available at www.invisiblechildren.com/financials. The organization spent 80.46% on their programs that further their three-fold mission*; 16.24% on administration and management costs; and 3.22% on direct fundraising in Fiscal Year 2011. Invisible Children is independently audited every year and in full compliance with our 501(c)3 nonprofit status.

*Three-fold mission:
These are the three ways they achieve this mission; each is essential:
  1. 1) Make the world aware of the LRA. This includes making documentary films and touring them around the world so that they are seen for free by millions of people.
  2. 2) Channel energy from viewers of IC films into large-scale advocacy campaigns to stop the LRA and protect civilians.
  3. 3) Operate programs on the ground in LRA-affected areas that provide protection, rehabilitation and development assistance.
As you will see, they spend roughly one third of their money on each of these three goals. This three-prong approach is what makes Invisible Children unique. Some organizations focus exclusively on documenting human rights abuses, some focus exclusively on international advocacy or awareness, and some focus exclusively on on-the-ground development. They do all three at the same time. This comprehensive model is intentional and has proven to be very effective.
They are committed, and always have been, to be 100% financially transparent and to communicate in plain language the mission of the organization so that everyone can make an informed decision about whether they want to support our strategy.

What is so annoying is that, the war of Joseph Kony that the 'Invisible children Inc’ capitalized on, has since ended over 3 years a go.
Since the LRA left Uganda in 2006, Invisible Children has been publicly denouncing their atrocities in DR Congo, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic (CAR), while continuing to work with now-peaceful communities in post-conflict northern Uganda. In September 2011, Invisible Children launched the LRA Crisis Tracker website with the aim of providing high-quality, verified information about LRA attacks in DR Congo, South Sudan, and CAR. A detailed methodology is available on this website that explains how information is collected, verified, and rated in terms of its accuracy and reliability. Every incident that is reported through the Early Warning Radio Network run by Invisible Children's partner organizations is carefully verified with other actors in DR Congo and CAR before being published to the LRA Crisis Tracker; even after publishing, incidents on the website continue to be modified as--and when--further information becomes available. Each incident is rated according to two criteria, on a scale of 1 to 5: whether an incident has actually occurred, and whether it was committed by the LRA. In this way, Invisible Children is providing concrete data and helping to dispel unfounded rumours about LRA attacks.

In many circles, both in Africa and the USA, the directors of Invisible Children Inc have been accused of fraud and embezzlement.

Source please, along with names of the directors you are accusing of fraud and embezzlement.

All charities have lawyers and they have every right to use them when being accused of something as serious as fraud. They are already financially transparent, but for those who don’t know where to look for the information, these wrongful and uneducated accusations erode the good work that this charity is trying to put forth.

Educate yourself on this topic before issuing your misinformation. If you look at their financial statement you will see the following:

Expenses: $8,894,632
Revenue: $13,109,294

This provides 4.2M in funds for charity (which is approximately 32%).

Many of you are not aware that ‘Invisible children Inc' DOES NOT use an independent external Auditor.
Yes they do. Again, educate yourself. It is a reputable firm called Considine & Considine Chartered Accountants, from Sand Diego. www.cccpa.com

There is no Input from Ugandans for whom they claim to collect these donations. In a feeble attempt to seem legit, they have hired some puppet Ugandans and placed them in low and mediocre positions within the charity organization. These Ugandans have no say on decision making and are more than glad to just have a job.
ICU currently employs roughly 100 Ugandan professionals, working alongside four international staff members to implement and manage program activity on the ground. Three out of four of ICU’s senior management team are Ugandan. Current international staff members fill roles that r****e around communicating with IC’s San Diego office and international supporters.

On a side note Charity Navigator gives Invisible Children 3 out of 4 stars. It's gives their Programs its highest rating of 4 stars. ICU's Accountability and Transparency score is currently at 2 stars due to the fact that Invisible Children does not have 5 independent voting members on their board of directors (they currently have 4). But ICU are in the process of interviewing potential board members, and they will add an additional independent member this year in order to regain their 4-star rating by 2013. As previously mentioned, they have been independently audited by Considine and Considine since Fiscal Year 2006, and all of their audits have resulted in unqualified opinions on the audit reports. An unqualified opinion means that the auditors believe the financial statements are free of material misstatement and are in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles of the United States.

Hopefully you've learned something today.

Invisible Children Is A Scam!!

Copied from http://www.kony2012-is-a-scam.org

Invisible Children Inc is a scam. Their Campaign project 'Stop kony 2012' is a scam too. Many people are very upset at how Invisible Children Inc has been using the Joseph Kony Saga to cause sensationalism, so as to create a way for them to collect more money in donations and enrich themselves.

The more money they collect, the more these Invisible Children executives pay themselves hefty bonuses. Base salary for Invisible Children exec is about $85, 0000. When allowances and bonuses are added, these guys make over $160,000 a year. Just think what this money they lavish themselves with, could do for the people in Africa for whom they claim to be collecting donations for.

Invisible Children Inc does NOT have an Independent and external Auditor. Their Financial Statements as submitted to the Charity Navigator web site cannot be independently verified. It should be assumed to be a cooked financial statement since it was submitted by their in house Auditor and can not be substantiated by a third party.

Invisible Children Inc Executives have retained expensive Lawyers and in the past have been threatening libel suits to any one who dares to question their financial operations or their ethical legitimacy. They have also used your donation money to hire expensive Washington lobbyists to influence policies to suit their objectives. There close social relationships with African Oppressive regimes have also ensured that they have been protected and shrouded in biased and lopsided misinformation for years.

For the last 2 years less than 10% of funds collected by Invisible Children are sent to the Ground to help the Ugandan Children. Previous to that, less than 30% of the money they collected was sent to Uganda to help the Ugandan People. A preliminary survey of all projects and activity on the Ground in Uganda to help the Uganda Children does not even total up to $1.5 Million of the $13 Million they have collected in donations so far.

The Executives of Invisible Children have used the 'Invisible Children Inc' Charity to farther their own Careers in Media, Film and Music. Before Invisible Children Inc started, the Executive directors where Media arts students who went to Africa to look for project to farther their careers. They first went to Southern Sudan on a hit and miss venture and by just by chance they went farther south and stumbled upon the conflict in Northern Uganda. Since then they have capitalized on the Uganda -Joseph Kony War to spear head their media, film and music careers. They have also become stinky rich and drive in fancy cars and live in fancy houses with your donation money.

Now in2012, Invisible Children has created this STOP Kony 2012 viral video campaign to mislead people that they are collecting money to help catch Joseph Kony? The LRA Joseph kony war, that they talk about in their video has ended over 3 years ago. Joseph Kony has Not been seen or heard from, for the last two years and is actually believed to be dead. The United Nations however has reported that villages in Central Africa have recently been raided and people killed by thugs believed to be the LRA soldiers of Joseph Kony.

What many people do not kow, is that over 5 months ago, the USA Government had already sent 100 combat marine soldiers to Uganda and Central Africa to catch Joseph Kony. These Marines are co-coordinating their efforts with the armies of Uganda, DR Congo, South Sudan, and Central African Republic in an effort to Catch Kony. How is the Money you donate going to be used help catch Joseph Kony? Does Invisible Children have an Army in Africa that they are collecting this money to equip for a mission to catch kony? On invisible children's donate website, they write that; "To bring home Joseph Kony’s child soldiers, it will take an army of individuals making a monthly commitment through TRI contributions" Is the Money you donate to Invisible Children and Kony2012 being given to the United States Government to capture Kony? Off course Not. Will the Money be sent to Africa to Help the African Poor People? Yes only only less than 10%. So what will Invisible Children do with the rest of the 90% of your money? Yes Think About it!!!

Besides the viral Video of kony2012 contains recycled materials outdated six years ago. The Ugandan kids you see in those Videos are already over 21 years and are currently struggling in Uganda to continue with their lives while, Invisible Children is still Sensationalizing them for their own personal gains. The information in the kony2012 Viral video is half untrue, t is misleading, biased and completely out dated.

The Viral Youtube ‘Invisible Children’ Video does not focus on helping Ugandan children but rather on showcasing the media skills of the video maker. If you want to Donate Money to help Children In Uganda, You are better off donating your money to any of the many Charity Organizations that deal directly with helping people. Do NOT waste your money and donate to Invisible Children.

Scam Artist Charity Organizations like Invisible Children Inc MUST BE STOPPED. It s very sickening when they exploit peoples sympathy and empathy and use poor African Children for their own selfish gratification.
Scam Charity Organizations like Invisible Children MUST BE STOPPED!!!

Wooow, Riskymonk. That was a long, impressive post. You sure seem to know a lot about the detailed workings of this charity! And we know these are all your own words because, having graciously condescended to read the OP's own lengthy contribution, you declared:

After sundry (eminently reasonable) demands for the OP to provide substantiation and sources, here's what Riskymonk has to say about IC's finances.

Notice how the post slips into the first person plural in that final sentence?

Now compare those words with these which are taken verbatim from the Invisible Children's Official Response, publicly available on the charity's tumblr here: http://invisible.tumblr.com/

I could go on, but you get the point.

This leads us, Riskymonk, to two possible conclusions:

1. That you and the person who wrote that Official Statement are one and the same, which would at least clear you of plagiarism. However, it is deceitful to pose as a well-informed but disinterested defender of "a good charity" when in fact you have an interest to declare.

2. That, contrary to your declaration that these would be your own arguments, you have simply (and sloppily) copypasted the charity's own official statement and neglected to mention the fact, or even use quote marks to distinguish someone else's unattributed words from your own. Not only is this flat-out dishonest, but the discovery that you are prepared to simply accept and regurgitate the charity's own PR material means you might as well be working for them even if you are not.

In any event, your uncritical presentation of such obviously biased, self-serving material as fact is both damaging to the credibility of your arguments and revealing about the depth of your own partiality. You appear to be bright enough to have realised this which is presumably why you kept quiet about the fact. Unfortunately for you, I bothered to check.

How you have the nerve to chide others for their lack of proper substantiation and attribution is beyond me, but I think we've heard enough out of you on this subject.

And I've gotta say that reading your long post made my head hurt too but, hey, to expose your fraudulence and hypocrisy, I made the sacrifice.

Hopefully you've also learned something today.

Re: KONY2012 By INVISIBLECHILDREN.COM IS A SCAM

http://c2052482.r82.cf0.rackcdn.com/...pdf?1325722694

According to Invisible Children's own financial reports, in 2011, they had an income of $13,756,177 and an expense of $8,894,630. $3,303,228 went to Central Africa Programs. That is about 37.14% of their EXPENSES. Only 24.01% of their income went to aid programs in Africa. All other money went into ways to become more public.

In my opinion, they are using "Kony2012" to earn more money. I believe they are capitalizing on propaganda created by Museveni. It is my personal belief that they are using a "hot topic" to raise their revenue.

If everything in the Kony 2012 video is true, then it would be important to stop him and the LRA. Invisible Children should allow African governments deal with that issue. If they wish to help, they should spend their efforts on ending poverty, finding a cure for HIV/AIDs, and helping those affected by malaria.

We live in a country where if you have money you can do almost anything. If they really are doing illegal things, somebody needs to come up with proof; not only as he said she said sort of thing. Anyone can request an audit, but it needs to be done base on real proof of fraud. If you have question about the legitimacy of INVISIBLECHILDREN you can request directly to them a copy of the Charter, and how they distribute the money.

What are you doing about what is going on around your world? It's easy to criticize than do something.

Re: KONY2012 By INVISIBLECHILDREN.COM IS A SCAM

Okay so no one really knows if Invisible Children Inc is a scam at this point in time. However, those who say it is a scam have put up a good argument but it's missing one thing - evidence. Also, so what if Invisible Children Inc have their financial reports online for everyone to see because they could very well be lying about where their expenses go and how much money they have left over after 'donating' to Uganda.

Re: KONY2012 By INVISIBLECHILDREN.COM IS A SCAM

For all those nay Sayers! Jason Russell the co-founder of Invisible Children and producer of the viral kony 2012 video was arrested on Thursday 15th of March 2012 for drunkenness and masturbation in Public while naked.

After watching the ACTUAL VIDEO OF JASON RUSSELL NOW DUBBED JASON HORNY 2012, DRUNK, NAKED AND MASTURBATING IN PUBLIC http://www.kony2012-is-a-scam.org/in...video&w=v&id=9 I kind of felt sorry for Jason Russell. In the video It would appear that he was high on some hallucinogen drugs. Jason Russell has became a victim of his own success. A victim of his own misinformation.

This very Post on scam.com was the first to point out that kony2012 was a scam. Now everybody else including serious political pundits and international journalists have joned the band wagon and come out to declare that kony2012 is a scam. Just google it.

It would appear that Jason Russell has lost his marbles after he admitted that his video was misleading, very simplistic and could have done better to include up to date facts and detailed truths. He however still maintained that his heart was in the right place. In regards to the Financial spending of less than 30% to the Acholi Children of Uganda, he claims that probably it was not the best IDEA. But he still stands that his intention was to bring awareness of the situation of Joseph Kony. And asked why now when Jospeh Kony was no longer a serious threat. he fumbled with his answers.

Ever since this article first pointed out that INVISIBLE CHILDREN AND KONY 2012 WAS A SCAM, everybody including CNN, BBC, ALJAZEERA, NBC, ABC have all joined in and started to point fingers that it was a possible a scam. It is this type of pressure and accusations that drove Jason Russell to despair. His lies caught up with him. Worse yet the people of Uganda, rejected his video and responded very angrily at the KONY2012 video, the screening in Uganda was halted. The victims of Joseph Kony in Uganda were very angry and claimed to be re-traumatized that Jason Russell was promoting Jospeh Kony by having thousands selling and wearing T-shirts with Kony's name on it. Jason Russell's Friends in the Ugandan Government also made a U-turn and abandoned him, as they condemned Jason Russell openly and claimed that his video has done more harm than good, it undermines the Ugandan Government effort in defeating Joseph Kony. Many charity Organizations in NORTHERN UGANDA, (Red Cross, Dutch and Norwegian NGO's etc) that worked with victims of Joseph Kony since the start of the war were also not amused. They claimed to have been on the ground in Uganda for over twenty years and Invisible Children, that had been there for only 9 years had done very little in Uganda to help the victimized children and yet they claim the glory.
These Charities have publicly declared invisible children as a scam and a fraud.
