Re: Personal Assistant Scam?

Thanks for posting up the information on that scammer.

Making a scammer's scam googlable on every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find is a great way to slow that scammer down when a suspicious potential victim goes looking for information, finds your post containing the name the scammer is using, his email address, phone number and the emails themselves and then that potential victim does not become a scam victim because you took the time "get the word out".

Thanks!!

Wasting a scammer's time legally and safely is called "scambaiting". If you google that word, you will find sites where you can read scambaits, post up the emails and email addresses of scammers, post up a fake website, read up on how to alert a hosting company that they are hosting a fake website, ask questions and learn all about the hobby of scambaiting.

You will get many more of them emails, so you have to be very careful with those email s. Most of them will ask you for your name, phone number, and address and the same format.

Re: Personal Assistant Scam?

Hello everyone,

I think I just might have fallen on this scam. I received an e-mail with the job opportunity from careerbuilder.com to work as a personal assistant. The e-mail stated the following

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE:

Burke Ryan is a transaction lawyer whose practice focuses on private equity and providing corporate counsel to early-stage businesses. Currently he practices law as a solo practitioner and is counsel for Riggs Ltd., a private equity holding company focused on
management of international real estate investments.

Mr. Burke has worked as a financial analyst for a commercial bank, principal for an e-commerce business in New York City, and as counsel for a private equity firm focused on real estate. He was a financial analyst in the lending group of The Private Bank, analyzing and managing solutions to complex lending liability problems in residential and commercial real estate loan matters. In New York

City, Mr. Burke acquired substantial entrepreneurial experience in e-commerce company formation, project management, and global business development. As counsel for a private equity firm, Mr. Burke has formed tactical strategies in raw land development and niche property investments. He has advised on a wide scope of real property legal matters and added value to properties by solving management and operational problems while improving physical conditions of real estate holdings.

Mr. Burke helps his clients by providing clear advice on corporate, investment, employment, securities, intellectual property, and transactional matters. Mr. Burke has written on legislative reform issues and, in particular, on the economics of alimony reform bills in

Massachusetts. His native language is English.

BAR ADMISSION

Mr. Burke is a member of the Connecticut Bar, and is admitted to practice before all state courts.

JOB DESCRIPTION :

I received your resume in response to the ad posted on the Career Builder for a Personal/Administrative Assistant, I am so sorry for the late response to your resume. I will deeply appreciate all genuine efforts to help me monitor and keep up to date with all my activities. I have had a previous PA who has been very commendable in her activities and who has been part of my life for the past 6 months, she has since returned to her country. I sincerely hope I will be able to find someone again who will be as efficient as she has been. I'm 52, originally from Australia, but I have spent a whole lot here in United States. I'm a lawyer by profession as I have stated above in my profile and I have been pretty successful in a handful of ventures I get involved in; from the AFS Intercultural Programs in Canada and United States to various welfare and community service programs, I most very often get my hands occupied, so it is imperative for me to have a worthy assistant who can monitor and keep me up to date with my activities.

As my assistant, your activities among other things will include;

** Running personal errands, supervisions and monitoring.

** Scheduling programs, flights and keeping me up to date with them.

** Acting as an alternative telephone correspondence when I'm away.

** Making regular contacts and drop-offs on my behalf.

** Handling and monitoring some of my financial activities.

** Temporary wage is $500 a week till i arrive.

** Benefits Packages will be discussed and sealed when i arrive back to the States.

This position is home-based and flexible, working with me is basically about instructions and following them, my only fear is I may come at you impromptu sometimes, so I need someone who can be able to meet up with my irregular timings. There is also a very sensitive issue on trust and accountability which I believe will resolve itself as time goes on. This is only an introductory e-mail, as time goes on we should be able to arrange a proper meeting to get things started officially. I'm currently in the Queensland Australia now for a

summit, however, I do have a number of things you could help me with this coming week if you will be available for me. This can act as a

stable foundation to our working relationship.

I will be waiting to hear from you again so we can proceed accordingly.

Best Regards,

Burke Ryan (Esq.)

I responded trusting it because of careerbuilder. After that e-mail, a couple of days later I get this response

Thanks for the email and interest towards this position. I'm sure you understand i tend to have a very busy schedule at this point and please note that this position is not office based for now because of my frequent travels and tight schedules, it's a part-time offer at the moment and the flexibility means that there will be busier weeks than others, so it's a little difficult judging the exact amount of hours you'll be working per week. If you possess great skills of time management, this job may even give you some extra while you do something else on the side. When i arrive in the States which will be in 2 weeks time, we would make arrangement for a formal meeting so we can both sign all necessary employment contract documents

As I have said, I will want us to get a head start with things as soon as possible. I do have a pile up of work and a number of unattended chores which you can immediately assist me with, I hope we can meet up with the workload eventually.

Permit me to use the this coming week to test your efficiency and effectiveness towards all this, also to work out your time schedule and fit it to mine. I really need to find an intelligent candidate for this position, I'm confident you can take up the challenge based on your resume and on the long run we should have a relatively sound working relationship together.

I am glad you are willing to work with me and i promise to be a good boss, also glad on the commitment in working. I have been checking my files and what i would want you to do for me this week is to run some errands out to some of the needy homes, I do that every month .

The funds to perform this task will be in form of a Cashier's Check and it will be sent over to you from one of my clients, which i will be emailing some lists to you once you receive the funds. You will make some arrangements by buying some stuff for the kids in the nearest store around you so you can mail them out Or transfer the fund to them.

Kindly confirm if the information below is same as on your resume.

FULL NAME:
FULL CONTACT ADDRESS ( no po box ) :
CITY, STATE, ZIP CODE:
PHONE NUMBER (CELL/HOME):

Once i receive your response. I will make up your job file and get back to you with your staff code ID number and will also provide some information about the task for this week, Understand you will also be paid as well as its important for me to make the necessary steps before i get to the States.

Hope i am clear with that.

Your swift response to this email will be highly advantageous.

Regards.
Burke Ryan.

Surely enough did I receive in the mail in the form of a cashiers check funds of $2900.00....Stupidly enough I go to my bank today and deposit the money because as my first assignment I had to do the following:

How are you doing today? I just want to inform you that you will be getting payment from my client today via Fedex Courier Service it was mailed out yesterday and it will be delivered to your address this morning with tracking number 797845437990f. As soon as your receive the check which is of $2900. Kindly Visit your bank to get the get it cashed at your bank and if you are unable to get it cashed instantly kindly go ahead and deposit it into your bank account and funds will be available for withdrawal 24hrs after it has been deposited. I will be waiting for a confirmation message if it's either cashed or deposited and as soon as you have the funds, you are to deduct $500 as your weekly payment and proceed to any Western union outlet around you to transfer the balance to Texas SOS Children community, so the money will be sent to Texas SOS Children community, i think you have a Western union location around you because you need to proceed to any Western union outlet to send the money. You need to complete the transaction ASAP because the money is for Charity project focus of the project was AIDS prevention and Care for HIV infected children.

Below are the information to send the money to them:

Receivers Information:

FIRST NAME : PAUL

LAST NAME :RODRIGUEZ

CITY : WEBSTER

STATE : TEXAS

ZIP CODE : 77598

NB : This information is very important. The funds is meant to be sent to PAul Rodriguez in TX for a project focusing on children with HIV/AIDS diseases.

Once the money has been sent, kindly get back to me with the Western union transfer information like,

Money Transfer Control Number #:

Amount Sent After Western union charges:

Sender's Full Name And Address:

Look forward to read from you.

Best Wishes,

Burke Ryan.

When I spoke with my bank teller she questioned me if I knew the person that sent the check. I advised that I did not know them personally but that I did googled the company from where the check came from and it was a legit company and there was a branch here in FL. She did mentioned that there were a lot of scams like that and with the request to Western Union money and I should be careful. I deposit the check, but when I left a little uneasiness was left in my brain. As soon as I got home I started making more research and come across this website and read all the post and boy do all the e-mails match what I got. I contacted very quickly my bank and unfortunately they are not able to stop the process of the deposit and that I may need to go on Monday to the branch directly.

I will see what I can do, but thank God that I did not start forwarding any money because most likely this check is going to bounce. It is unbelievable how some people out there can be so selfish and evil and take advantage of those that are trying to look for work. I am unemployed and a mother of two desperate to find some work and here I come as a goof ball and fall for this crap.

Yes, walk into you bank on Monday and tell the teller that you are the victim of a work-at-home, cash-the-fake-check scam. You aren't the first and won't be the last person to tell the teller that. You will probably have to pay the $35 bounced check fee, sorry.

Scammers are, unfortunately, very good at convincing honest people to cash fake checks, accept fake money transfers, print fake checks and send their hard earned money to anonymous scammers.

The good news is that now you are aware of this type of scam and know to come here and other scam-busting sites whenever you have any questions about anything.

The bad news is that now you are on that scammer's 'potential sucker' list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.

When you refuse to send him your cash he will send increasingly nasty and rude emails trying to convince you to go through with his scam. The scammer could also create another fake name and email address like "FBI@ gmail.com", "police_person @hotmail.com" or "investigator @yahoo.com" and send emails telling you the job is legit and you must cash the fake check and send your money to the scammer or you will face legal action. Just ignore, delete and block those email addresses. Although, reading a scammer's attempt at impersonating a law enforcement officer can be extremely funny.

6 "Rules to follow" to avoid most fake jobs:
1) Job asks you to use your personal bank account and/or open a new one.
2) Job asks you to print/mail/cash a check or money order.
3) Job asks you to use Western Union or moneygram in any capacity.
4) Job asks you to accept packages and re-ship them on to anyone.
5) Job asks you to pay visas, travel fees via Western Union or moneygram.
6) Job asks you to sign up for a credit reporting or identity verification site.

Avoiding all jobs that mention any of the above listed 'red flags' and you will miss nearly all fake jobs. Only scammers ask you to do any of the above. No. Exceptions. Ever. For any reason.

If you google "fake check cashing job", "fraud Western Union scam", "money mule moneygram scam" or something similar you will find hundreds of posts from victims and near-victims of this type of scam.

Good luck with the job search and hope you come back and post up more fake job emails.

Thanks!!

Re: Personal Assistant Scam?

I just joined this website, and noticed this fabulous board for those of us who have managed to fall for a scam. Same thing, "personal assistant", check-cashing, the whole nine yards. Fortunately I had stuff I was holding back from the scammer, and didn't get taken for the whole amount, but still have to pay back a portion. I feel fortunate that I had legit jobs, and while I'm gonna be pissed about my credit rating, I'm cooperating with everyone to get this scum taken to justice. Look out for:

U&M Groups
KJ Groups
resumesinfo121@gmail.com
pshl@rocketmail.com

I've already informed the local authorities, and have a claim filed with ic3.gov.

If anyone else has come into contact with any of these e-mail addresses, feel free to let me know, I'm happy to add you as a victim to my complaint with ic3. I feel really stupid for falling for this, but, hey, like others have said, in this economy, sometimes you overlook the obvious "red flags". Plus this person was very charming and vaguely threatening. They've gotten worse, it seems...

Mr.James Wilmore
This screams scam from the get go. If you look at the part where the "lady" introduces him/herself, and then look at the signature part of the email, you can see that something doesn't jive. The signature is the husband, but begins with the wife. "She" also says that the website for the company is not up, red flag #2. Not only that, but earlier in the email, it is mentioned that "she" wants to do a personal interview with you, but gives you a bunch of questions to answer and email back to them, and then they'll let you know if you have the job or not: red flag #3. I may be wrong, but this sounds like the typical "cash a fake check" scheme. Run as fast as you can!

Re: Personal Assistant Scam?

There was an ad in my newpaper about a personal assistant job paying 400 a week. I sent my resume via email and just got a response today and it's for a mystery shopper job. They say the company is Conti Fibre, which is a fabric place in Italy. They wanted my information and I am not going to send it. They email was dayny1@yahoo.com by the name of Kenny Day. They would send me money to buy stuff for mystery shopping.

Re: Personal Assistant Scam?

Thanks for posting up that information on a scam.

Re: Personal Assistant Scam?

short and sweet there is no such thing as ONLINE JOBS !

a JOB is when you perform a set of daily task for a BOSS and GET paid at weeksend PERIOS!

Therefore anyone advertsing JOBS online is posting a lie and just do not join !

All though i use that keyword in my blogs because thats what people serach for JOBS

Re: Personal Assistant Scam?

I believe your intentions are good but your "facts" are WRONG.. There are a lot of companies who do hire for online JOBS..

The problem comes in with people who believe they can just log on to the internet, sign up and start working for an EMPLOYER.. It doesn't work that way. I have two relatives plus myself who work from home for an employer and I know many others who do as well.

The keyword in that last paragraph is WORK. It doesn't mean to pay to find a job, it doesn't mean to just sign up and start supposedly working. It does mean, you find a company who hires, you apply with a resume, you go through an interview, you have the equipment you need, (usually a quiet area, a dedicated landline, a headset, etc) and that you actually get hired. Just applying should NEVER mean you are automatically hired.

Just to give you an idea of what a REAL company looks like, take a look at http://www.axiondata.com/employment.htm, they aren't hiring right now but at least everyone can see what a real company actually looks like.

Re: Personal Assistant Scam?

Lol I have heard about the Nigerian scams. They are so easy to identify and am sure they think people are that stupid to fall for them.
