trying to figure out the invisible post problem

I have been reading and looking and trying to find an answer for the posts not showing up.

Here is something I have came up with.

The posts that are showing have advertisements in them.

The posts that are not showing up have a small amount of space showing where the post text should be.

I wonder if the Administrator can control the space given to the advertisements or the amount of space for posting.

I am thinking the space may need adjusting. Maybe without enough space the text of the post will not show up. Or the amount of space given under something?

Is anyone else trying to figure out what is causing this problem? Just for the heck of it?

Also could be a malicious code in one of the ads. I believe the site only has g-ads, but there can be a user that puts code in his signature that could execute and do the same thing. I might try and disable/globally delete all signatures and disallow any HTML posting in the forums in way shape or form and only allow the BB Mark up.

Just playin it safe!

I also visited the VBulletin forum (VBulletin is the name of the software that the forum runs on and is owned by a company called Jelsoft) and although I didn't find the exact problem, I found that it is possible that either the owner of scam has installed a non-compatible upgrade and corrupted the CSS template without saving a backup or testing the new template (on the VBulletin forum there is a place to test upgrades and alterations to the software settings) or in an effort to delete the dating ads, the owner has removed vital code necessary to keep the integrity of the software or (and to me this is the most likely explanation) when the owner handed over admin privileges to a new moderator, the new moderator may have had a motive to scuttle the site and screwed with the software her/himself.

Of course, as a registered user of the VBulletin software, the owner is able to log in to the forum and post his concerns. There are many experts who can usually sort out any problem with relative ease. If the owner has chosen not to avail himself or this free service, then it could be assumed that either the owner doesn't care about the site or has sabotaged it himself for reasons only known to himself.

Still, It would be nice if the owner would 'fess-up' in any case, but this type of behavior is par for the course, so don't hold your breath.

.
I am so happy you posted Gazza. I was hoping somebody that understood the problem far better than I ever could would post their opinion on what the problem could be.

I also visited the VBullentin forum today. Neat forum. I read some posts and decided I was not going to find the information on the forum that would explain what Scams problems are with the text being invisible. I just do not know enough to piece it all together. Read a lot about codes. Codes and more codes.

What you have said sounds right.

After thinking about Zach and all I have read about him and the forum I realize what you have said is more than likely correct. Zach is Zach and we will probably never know what happened to cause the invisible post problems. Hopefully it can or will be fixed.

I was feeling a bit aggravated and disappointed about this when I logged onto the forum this morning. After reading and trying to figure out what the problem could be I pretty much got over feeling disappointed in the way the forum is being ran.

I guess we will need to just get use to using the ways we are using to view all the posts. When it does get fixed we will really appreciate having it back to normal.

I discovered you can use the iphone skin and view the posts also. You can give a quick reply using that style.

Again thanks for sharing what you know about the problem. I was not going to be able to figure it out on my own.

I am not understanding what you have just posted.

I know there are those that do understand and will reply to your post.

Re: trying to figure out the invisible post proble

Was it always the case that the google ads appeared in every single post?

When I have Hybrid as the setting for the threads and I use the tree, it is showing every single post with the google ads at the bottom of the post.

I was thinking they just showed up every few posts.

Maybe I am not remembering correctly.

Each display mode is showing the posts and ads differently. LOL

I did look up how to add google ads to a forum.

Seems the code is key to what may be causing this problem.

I give up with trying to figure this out though, it must be difficult or Zach would already have had it fixed.

This should not be hard to fix - I am pretty sure just one or two (probably just one) template file, database seems to be just fine (since all posts show up in print mode). My guess is when the owner added the Google ads he screwed up somewhere in the template.

Yes there is nothing you can do, only the admin or whoever has access to source code can fix it.

I know there is nothing I can do to fix the problems of the forum.

By reading and learning more about how to fix the problem it took my frustration away and I also learned some things I did not know.

By posting about the problems I got some feed back from Gazza and others which really helped me to put everything I had read together with what they had to say and now I understand what is going on with the problems of the forum.

I am a little bit smarter.

Re: trying to figure out the invisible post proble

The g-ads used to tbe the first and last posts of the page.

The HTML premission is set by USERGROUP permissions in the Admin CP. For example if you allow a user to put in HTML into the signature it could be an active virus or script. Not good. When you have a forum as large as thins you need to have minimal permissions.

In simplest terms, I can create a link that says "Here is a thread that explains how to solve the invisible post problems" but really link it to some sort of porno site that when loaded executes a script to gather all of your email contacts...banking info...or just screw up your computer.

Not saying that is what it is, but wiht so many users all it takes is one.
