Guitar Buying Scam....?

Hello,

I was just wondering if this sounds like a scam to you guys.

I am buying a Gibson Les Paul guitar, it is a highly valuable guitar but the woman is selling it for 880 dollars, far below its valued price. I found the guitar on Kijiji so I figured it was local. Turns out she has moved to St. Johns, Newfoundland (I live in ontario) recently. She claims she is recently divorced, hence the move, with two children, hence the price.

She wants to do the payment through ebays protection program. I got an invoice from eBay with all the steps needed for the transaction.

Sound fishy to you? The email from eBay looks all legit but still....when its to good to be true, it usually is.

Re: Guitar Buying Scam....?

100% scam.

There is no guitar, just a pretty picture. There is not any ebay buyer protection plan, that email is just another one of the scammer's email addresses. Is that address something like "ebayProtections @ gmail dot com"?

Those steps from his fake ebay protection email address include you sending him the MTCN# and question/answer from Western Union so he can pick up the cash and disappear.

Check the headers on that email, he is not in Newfoundland, probably not even on that continent.

The divorced/single mom/joined the military type person who moved recently is a common story for a scammer to explain why you can't pick up or see the item for sale in person.

You could post up that scammer's stock cut-n-paste emails to help make your post googlable for other potential suspicious victims to find.

Google 'ebay buyers protection program', you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find.

In the end, just stop emailing that scammer and quietly disappear. Ignore and block all emails from him, he has one job in life, convincing people to send him their cash Western Union

It sounds like a SCAM to me as well. I would look into it a lot more carefully, and be extremely cautious before making that purchase.
